Italian/Spanish M31-33 Gas Mask

In this video I discuss the history and features of the Italian M31-33 gas mask. Large numbers of this mask were imported into Spain during the Spanish Civil War. In the early 1960s they were refurbished and modernized to accept a 40mm filter.

I am in the United States but unfortunately do not have a shop, I am just a college student at the moment! Perhaps someday though. I sold this lot to International Military Antiques. You should be able to find them on Google.

Spanish made canister. Greyish original paint underneath. Not dated or makers mark. I use to have one with a grey Dangas gas mask 1940s made I think

II fits most, III is only if you have a very large head. If I were you, I'd definitely get an II if you haven't already bought another gas mask.

@@isaachitchcock7113 The filters seen in my video were more "modern" Spanish produced licensed copies of a German filter and made in the 50s-60s. I imagine that your GM-30 was probably refurbished after the war and had one of these newer filters added to it. The M31-33s that I have went through this refurbishment process as well and were modified to accept 40mm filters like those used on the GM-30. This standardized the filter type used on the wide variety of masks that Spain had in their arsenals post-war. Hope that makes sense.
