Turku is a wonderful Christmas town as well. ❤ It also declares the Christmas peace every year , since 500 years . I was just there in the end of November . Being from more north of Finland, it was like being abroad 😂

0:46 The capital of Finland changed from Turku to Helsinki in 1812 because at the time Russia had just taken Finland from Sweden and the Russian Tsar wanted the capital closer to St. Petersburg. Turku had too much connections to Sweden. Just to note that before the Russians, Turku had been the biggest city and also the most important city in Finnish area for more than 600 years. Power of the church, monarch, university, court etc. where all in Turku.

It is not common to see the northern lights as south as Turku. Not impossible but not common.

I managed to capture couple photos from my balcony couple weeks ago. Visible even with all the light pollution in the city.

@@neymarjr3712 not at all. Kouvola is the most underrated city in finland, great people and a relaxed feeling. Kouvola being ugly is just an overrated meme that has no truth to it, there is uglier places all over finland

From Helsinki myself but you may want to check out e.g. Savonlinna and Kuopio in the east. To the north there’s for example Oulu and Rovaniemi.

The only time you can do a U turn in motorway in Finland is when you see Turku 10

Turku would otherwise be a nice city, but it is full of Turku people.
