It's a gas! Order your Italeri #Ford #Transit #Van today from Modelroundup.com
www.modelroundup.com/product-...
Thanks to its sleek American styling and range of body choices, the Ford
Transit revolutionized the light commercial vehicle industry in 1965.
When the Mark II arrived in 1978, customers could select from six body
styles, five different engines, short or long wheelbase versions, up to
17 interior seats, six axle ratios and 32 door combinations. No wonder
it's been a global success! Kit features a choice of right- or left-hand
drive set-ups, five rubber tires and decals for the British Gas Society
as well as various European license plates.
The Ford Transit is a range of light commercial vehicles produced by Ford since 1965. Sold primarily as a cargo van, the Transit is also built as a passenger van (marketed as the Ford Tourneo since 1995), minibus, cutaway van chassis, and as a pickup truck. Over 8,000,000 Transit vans have been sold, making it the third best-selling van of all time[1] and have been produced across four basic platform generations (debuting in 1965, 1986, 2000, and 2013 respectively), with various "facelift" versions of each.The first product of the merged Ford of Europe, the Transit was marketed through Western Europe and Australia; by the end of the twentieth century, it was marketed nearly globally with the exception of North America until 2013 when it replaced the Ford E-Series in 2015. The Transit has been the best-selling light commercial vehicle in Europe for forty years, and in some countries the term "Transit" has passed into common usage as a generic trademark applying to any light commercial van in the Transit's size bracket.[2][3] While initially designed for the European market, the Ford Transit is now produced in Asia, North America, and Europe for worldwide buyers. Upon production in North America, the Transit won second place in Motor Trend's 2015 'Truck of the Year' award, behind the newly introduced mid-size Chevrolet Colorado pickup and ahead of the new Ford F-150.[4]As of 2016, the Transit is the best-selling van of any type in the United States, minivan sales included. The Transit drives Ford's 57 percent share of the full-size van market in the USA.
The Mark II was available in 6 body styles: Van, Kombi, Chassis Cab, Parcel Van, Bus and Crewbus all available in short-wheelbase (2690 mm) and long-wheelbase (3000 mm) versions. A selection of 5 engines was available: 1.6-litre OHC Petrol, 1.6-litre OHV Petrol (Kent), 2.0-litre OHC Petrol, 2.0-litre OHC Petrol (Economy) and 2.5-litre Diesel. On top of this were 32 door combinations, 6 axle ratios and options for 12 - 17 interior seats. All of these were available in any combination when purchased with Ford's highly customizable custom plan. At the time this gave the business sector an unprecedented amount of flexibility, which was a major factor in the vehicles' ultimate success.

    As I said in a previous comment on a build you chuck it all together but the end result looks great. I love the style of your videos, the way you talk "we're gonna do this, we're gonna do that..." nothing is a problem. You clearly have a great time building these kits and your enthusiasm shines through in the videos.

    I remember these as a kid as there was a British Gas depot near where I lived and I was once chased across a field by a midnight blue mk2 Transit police van as we where all hanging around a bonfire a few days before bonfire night. But it was no match for my 8 year old legs fuelled by fear and ran into the housing estate and straight home. Must left some sort of impression on me as my daily driver is a mk7 Transit.

    I built this kit, but I made a change to the wheels. I left off the wheel covers and covered the holes with a piece of circle-shaped styrene. A great kit!

    I love the Tips from Chris! All of the little detail touches really turn this from just a "plastic model kit" into a small scale, true to life, representation of the actual vehicle. The white rims under the silver hubcaps is subtle, but, once noticed, the detail is impossible to ignore. Interior door panel detail, interior scratches, black undercoat, etc, all of these things are things I rushed through as a child because I just wanted to finish. I have come, thanks to you, to appreciate the art of model building. Thank you and, as usual, your model came out beautiful. Italeri has really nice kits!

    Hi from the UK. I've just found this great video, as I'm building a Transit at the moment. The moulds were originally from ESCI, as that's the one I'm building. The hubcaps are correct as this is the facelift Transit from 1983/84.

    Regarding the installation of the windshield, I am reminded of times when had such issues building things. There is a difference between "assembly instructions" and an "assembly drawing". To me, it looks like what you have is an assembly drawing. Basically, it shows where something goes not how to get it to go there. It is an important thing to know before starting any project. Instructions are like, "Take item 9 and insert it into item 11 by placing it...."etc. An assembly drawing is more like. Item 9 goes here.

    Great the real ones now fetch good money especially if they have history of their past/original livery. The black would've been satin finish & most interior trim would've been grey vynil. I've plans to make mine into a dually ramp truck.

    Great review Chris, and nice to see a UK vehicle too. It was released in 1984 in red plastic as a Ford promo. It's had several releases since then but is still a great kit. One error on this current release is on the decal sheet. The green stripe should be pale blue. British Gas have never used green.

    Really like seeing these Europe-based kits, especially the service versions. It's a shame the split hubs necessitated the use of the caps... I would've preferred the bare steelies, but I understand your choice. Another great build/review!

    Usually, on the work vans the rear glass is replaced with a panel, just paint over the 'glass'. It stops people seeing what you are carrying, and stealing your tools. The cab has no rearview through the van so the driver relies on his mirrors to see behind (if he uses them at all!)

    I don't know if this has been answered before and apologies if it has, but with the number of kits you build, what do you do with them all? Are they all displayed? Have you ever considered making a display room video to show off your entire collection?

    This looks like a nice kit to build, you did a great job. I never really got into the European cars much as they didn't seam to fit with all the American cars and trucks. Besides in the UK the steering wheel is on the right side. Same with the Aussie & Japanese kits unless they were made for the US market.

    Question about rustoleum paints...does paint go bad? I did some testing with the gloss clear over and older can of high gloss black and it cracked and folded up causing a real bad texture. Could this be my culprit?

  • @billymanilli

    @billymanilli

    4 жыл бұрын

    Sounds like the solvents in the clear "attacked" the black paint... There could be a few different reasons for this, but sounds like the black wasn't fully cured (which can take at least a week with most rattle cans like the rustoleum)... Unfortunately, paint is one of those parts of the hobby that can take quite a bit of trial and error... My best recommendation would be to look for some vids/articles on the topic, and start going at it. I've been just starting to spray acrylics on bodies, with future floor polish for clear, after using lacquers and enamels for the past 20+ years, and already getting great results without much experimentation... and I'm LOVING the ease of cleaning up my airbrush with them... just figured I'd mention, as a lot of people seem to hate acrylics (I WAS one of them!) Good luck and GREAT FUN to you! 👍

    @@billymanilli I actually tried the gloss clear over a newer gloss navy blue rustoleum and it came out great...I've also started dabbling in the pledge floor polish as well...are you able to sand it at all?

  • @billymanilli

    @billymanilli

    @@michaelbraun5943 yeah I hear ya... it can sure be a discouraging thing when you use a certain paint(s) to a great result, and then the next time, you lay down a nice base coat and "kill" it with the next... Actually just did a revell c7r kit and layed down 3 perfect coats of rustoleum yellow... Went for a last coat, from the same exact can, and it wrinkled the whole thing up instantly like a raisin! What happened there, if I'm not mistaken, was I waited too long for the final coat.. Once you wait too long, the paint on the model, ESPECIALLY if it was applied a little too thick, starts to get pretty well cured on the top surface, but underneath, it is still wet. When you spray another coat in those conditions, the solvents in the new coat, begin eating into the "semi-cured" top coat... and once they get through, they basically start to mix in with the softer, still solvent filled, paint underneath... after that the paint under the top coat melts it from underneath, making that lovely "wrinkle soup". Here's from rustoleum's website- "DRY AND RECOAT TIMES... Allow more time at cooler temperatures. Dries tack free in 2-4 hours, to handle in 5-9 hours and fully dry in 24 hours. Primers may be top coated immediately. *Apply a second coat or clear coat within 1 hour or after 48 hours.*" As for the floor polish... It definitely doesn't harden and polish like a good quality "automotive" type of clear with hardener in it... but, you can carefully polish it, DRY, with very fine papers/cloths.. Hope this helps you some... LOTS to learn about paint, and I'm not the "best" at writing my thoughts! Lots of practice and trial/error, is one thing I can say helps for sure!

  • @hpiguy

    I've had that happen, and it was usually because I put the clear on way too thick and sprayed too close so it reactivated the color under it. Clears can be built up in layers to make it easier.
