When I first listened to the new version of In The Heights I feared Melissa's Vanessa wasn't as powerfull as the original cast recordings, but she is AMAZING. Her voice feats Vanessa's character perfectly and she portraits her beautifully.

She was the character I was most worried about but they did a fantastic job at casting her very likeable can sing and dance her ass off! And as an aspiring fashion designer myself I love they added that to the story!

Melissa did a fantastic job with this song and with the other parts where Vanessa sings, her voice is soooo beautiful

I think Melissa was amazing as Vanessa. She really captured the beauty factor of Vanessa. Her voice is also really good. This is one of my favorite songs in the entire moive.

'No pare, sigue sigue' caught me 100% off guard

I love the buildup of going on the elevated train and riding away, then going in a limousine and driving away, then finally independently walking and flying away. I get chills every time she says “I’m gonna fly” because it’s such a pivotal point in Vanessa’s thinking!!!!

i did not expect to love this version so much!!! her voice is so beautiful and she is so perfect for this

Sonny's statement of "Like a drunk Chita Rivera" makes me laugh every time.

It won't be long now the world knows this beautiful version of this equally beautiful song.

Her voice is so pure. Outdoes the original and that’s saying a lot. Def stole the show.

Vanessa and Usnavi have so much more chemistry in the movie than the original. Honestly Vanessa as a whole is so much better in the movie than the original. I also love that they kept some of the same dialogue from the original. I said original a lot.

Yess!!! Many are saddened (some are angry) about cutting Nina and Benny's complete character arc for the movie, and Here I am worried for Vanessa before in the original because I felt she was left out in the story and all was focusing on Benny and Nina (Nina was my favorite character) And now, the movie gave justice to Vanessa, even to Sonny and I'm so glad for these characters. It's simple, Usnavi was the main character right? then the movie focused more on Usnavi's life, cousin, lovelife, etc., than the other characters' life. Maybe a sequel for Nina and Benny's story would be great.

This was such a beautiful song and the casting was so lovely! This did the orginal musical SO MUCH JUSTICE! ToT I Love it so much! This is hands down my new fave musical.

I admire her confidence, her charisma, and her determination. She is so ambitious, always hustling, never letting anything get in her way. I am motivated by her character to keep going and to keep doing my best

There's two scenes (between Vanessa's second chorus and Usnavi/Sonny's part) that aren't here. Vanessa gets turned down for an apartment downtown, and immediately after this she goes to the bodega where Sonny asks her out for Usnavi. The scene is similar to the musical but it's done entirely as dialogue.

Can't stop coming back to this one cuz it's divine, lively, and artful that entrances one's senses making it irresistible to dance!

Yk i’m gonna get hate for this but i didn’t really like Vanessa in the movie 🤷🏻‍♀️ this is the only song i sorta like with her. Her voice doesn’t compare in my opinion. Ecpecially when we get our first taste of Vanessa. In the opening when she sings her “No” section her voice didn’t feel strong enough. Most women who play Vanessa have really big voices, and less disney princess voices. I didn’t hate her, she has an AMAZING voice but her Vanessa didn’t do it for me 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also the story changes didn’t help.

i love the actress and her voice. I think her acting was great as vanessa (i personally didn’t like the story changes either besides the fact they focused more on her dream) but yeah her voice is a bit too soft, same with nina though imo. but i still loved her performance.

I agree that Karen Olivo sings better than Melissa, no doubt about that, but Melissa made the character MUCH more interesting and she is much more likable. It might be a biased opinion cause I actually know Melissa in real life but I feel like no one could have played the character better than her.

when i heard this girl's first nos, i could tell she would be totally wrong for the part. i was hoping i would be wrong once i saw the rest of the movie, but nope. she lacks everything that makes vanessa vanessa and it makes me super mad! i guess karen olivo aged out of the part, but they needed to find someone like her, because that is how you play the part. fuuuuck.

I also thought Melissa was the wrong choice for Vanessa at first but after rewatching, I’ve actually really come to love her. She just has a SPECTACULAR voice and she constantly crosses the line between emotionally closed off and vulnerable super well. Karen really is iconic, but I felt Melissa’s performance perfectly embodied Vanessa in a different way.
