The guitar sounds outstanding. I like the blue color and open pore finish. I think the guitar looks even better without the pickguard. Love the sound of P90s, and the feel of a thin neck. The light weight, and balance (no neck dive) are a big plus. Getting a guitar that you don't have to "fix" is worth something of a premium, and donating his share to a worthy cause is good form. It is perhaps a bit pricey, but that's a nice guitar.

Exactly what I was thinking! The guitar is light, looks good, seems to be very comfortable to play and sounds freakin' awesome. What else do you need from a guitar? The quality on the bench looked great as well. I really don't see the problem here. Okay, price is steep, but if I could play nitro finished guitars, I would definitely take this over P90 LP standard.

LP DC specials as a LP DC Jr which i have (with 2 pups now though) great light guitars. But it so uncomortambly for using during sitting process - learning new material or sofa training - it has too narrow distance between your leg and pikups, and too heavy back part of guitar. It needs an additioanal control everytime as a LP standard. Strats way too convenient in that way. Need to say i would rather prefer LP tribute series with maple neck, which i have - chould be a litle bit better balance and way too durable neck.

With the price of this one, I feel like Rick as an educator and Gibson should consider an Epiphone version of this guitar for students that don't sit on a lot of cash. Not that $2000 is a lot for a *good* instrument, but still. They would need to get the QC sorted though.

The tribute model you mention for the low price point has front loaded on the pickgaurd controls which was too cheap for me , then no binding which I happen to love on my Gibson ES 335 Lucille and Dove and actually every bound neck I’ve ever played is super smooth… the light weight and thin mahogany is a winner for me as well. 2K it’s definitely worth it for those reasons alone not to mention it’s intonation seems premier. I fell in love with this guitar the very first time I saw it in one of Rick's videos. Considering the fact that a Les Paul Special Double Cut Reissue with the wraparound bridge sells for 4199 $ or a Les Paul Junior DC with a single dogear sells for 3999 $ this is almost a steal. I'm really surprised that a lot of people think this instrument is expensive or over priced. I thought the price was very fair given everything it stands for. Proceeds are going to a charity, it's a signature model and if you compare it to similar Gibsons it's actually on the cheaper side. Also, if you divide the hours of enjoyment you'll get over time against the price of the guitar, it's a steal!

Love the honest review. I love Rick, his channel, and his passion for music education, and I am glad that he got his signature guitar (finally). I agree though, that $2k is too much for an LP Special. Unless that last 500 (or more) is going to charity. I paid about the same for my LP Traditional, which looks a lot nicer. They should have listed it between 1200-1400. I do love the P90s, though. I think they put the P100s in the previous run of LP Specials.

Greetings Austin! I picked up an Epiphone Les Paul in 2019 that is painted in Pelham Blue, it has a gloss finish on top but the satin finish on the back and sides, non of the paint has worn through nor chipped off since April of 2019, so you may find that the finish on that guitar is much more durable than it seems. It is the only one that I have seen in this paint job with the back of the guitar in the same color but with the satin finish, while having a gloss finish on the top. It also has coil splits on the classic alnico pickups, and it sounds great. Thank you for posting these videos! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🎸

I've got one like his TV yellow special. Paid $1400 (which sucks because 3 years ago you could get one for $950). But it's become my favorite guitar. The neck profile. The ring. I understand EXACTLY why he wanted to model his signature model after it. My question is, if it was an Adam Jones model instead of Rick Beato, would Austin still think it was overpriced? I think the price point is fine.

You sure? I found one just the other week. I guess I only bought it because it sold out so quickly, as some collectible. I own some pretty great guitars, but this one just blew me away! This one actually changed the way I think about guitars. I'm very impressed by Rick's utilitarian approach. Everything unnecessary is gone, no grain filer, ultra thin lacquer, less wood, only decal logo. It sounds, resonates and plays just fantastic. The best thing is that it's super light. I never thought this would have such an impact. Picking it up and playing is such a rewarding joy. This one is for the player and I'm not gonna collect it, instead i'll play the shit out of it. I guess this will be my daily driver for a very long time to come.

That’s awesome Rick gave this model some love! I love my 2003! I rode mine pretty hard the first few years I had it, I wore the frets flat, but the finish is still on it. Polished up in a few places from playing, but still intact. The old ones don’t have the bound fretboard, oh well, I kind of prefer it. The big problem I found was the Gibson branded pots! Trogly, revisit and check the pots! Mine were 250k which made it sound dark and muddy, kind of like your tone test in the video. Swap those for 500k pots and it suddenly sounds like P90’s! I’m not kidding, watch out for those Gibson branded pots. I’ve seen them go both ways, but I feel like they put them in cheaper models so people will want to spend on the pricier models that sound better. All that being said, those are really great guitars that will really treat you well, especially when they were cheap. I think they were $750 back then, I got mine scratch and dent for $425. Scratch and dent on a “worn” finish… hehe. I love that guitar.

Thanks for the honest review, Trogly. It's refreshing to find someone who ignores hype and says if they're disappointed with a product. I've bought the Beato Book and I really like the way Rick is donating his part of the proceeds, but it seems slightly ironic that, as someone so noted as a music teacher, he and Gibson didn't develop a model that combines high quality and greater affordability for student players. I can't pretend I like the factory-fresh metallic finish over open grain (sorry - it somehow looks a bit "cheap" to me), but it will be interesting to see how it wears if it's as thinly applied as you say - it might really come to life and match the "no-nonsense, working guitar" vibe that Rick's signature model otherwise has.

  • @dbspecials1200
    @dbspecials1200 Жыл бұрын

I'd say it's appointed appropriately as Rick comes from an instructional background, he's used to student level guitars being around. but I will say that particular blue works very well, it has a metallic element in the finish for sure, the light shows it clearly reflect off. it almost looks anodized. as you say, these will develop natural aging from play in no time. some players might like that.

Rick Beato is a music juggernaut in the KZread world... for a good reason. The guy knows his music and has been a phenomenal addition to the music community for the longest time. People bought his guitar for the hype, the name, the nostalgia. However, this is a middle range guitar priced at a premium price. Would be right at $1,000 if it wasn't "Rick Beato"; I really hope whoever bought these enjoys playing them for the memories of all the hours spent watching Rick Beato KZread videos!!! Can't really be negative about this since I've done something similar to this before, so I 100% understand why people pay so much for mediocre instruments. I was really into Stone Temple Pilots while playing bass guitar for a rock band. Found a Schecter Robert DeLeo Signature guitar and overpaid for what was hard to find at the time. Lol I still have it and it still puts a smile on my face because every time I play the thing, I remember all the concerts I went to and all the STP songs I played at gigs. For the sentimental reasons, this Rick Beato guitar is worth the money if you're a huge fan of the guy.

I think the price is just indicative of how stupidly expensive Gibsons are getting nowadays. A regular single cut special is $1800 now. The only other doublecut specials on offer right now are the custom shop reissues. The closest comparable artist model (given artist inflation and whatnot) is Tony Iommi's SG, which is $400 more for a different strap position and bridge. Meanwhile you can get a regular SG Special for $800 cheaper. Gibsons in general just cost too much new to be justified, even with wood shortages.

To answer your question, I like Rick but it just happens to be exactly the guitar I'd wanted to buy: flat-top double cut with that particular pickguard in that particular color. Was actually expecting it to look darker like Fender's Lake Placid Blue Satin on the American Precision Bass so that's a little disappointing, but a minor complaint. If almost any other detail had been different I wouldn't have bought it, but the fact that such an experienced musician and producer loved this guitar this much does add a bit of confidence for me in buying a guitar that is different than any of my others (I play heavier music where humbuckers are the way to go). I agree that an ebony fretboard would have made it perfect. I do have to disagree about them being the same as the recent ones. I looked at those a lot and could never bring myself to spend $800 on an ugly dark blue with 2 knobs and a hideous pickguard. Not saying I think this is objectively worth the $2k price but I bought it the second I could so it was an easy call for me and my tastes.

I'm excited for mine to come in. I've been shopping for a p90 guitar for awhile, and when I found out about this guitar I kept my eye on its release. I am excited to own one of these because there aren't many double cuts out there that I've liked, and this guitar is gorgeous. I love the blue, and I really like how the finish shows the grain. I think the fact Rick's proceeds went to charity, it's a unique finish, and a thin body; make up for the 200$ price difference one would have to pay to get a brand new les paul special at 1799$, and that's not even a double cut (which i personally prefer the look of), and no tune-o-matic. We'll see how limited this release is. If it remains a single 500 guitar run, i think the collector value of this, mint or otherwise because of its unique colored finish, will more than retain/grow the value/cost difference of other 2022 new specials. If they have 3-4 more runs, maybe not, but considering they sold out within hours of the first day of launch, I can't imagine it won't sell more or be worth collecting regardless.

I love Gibson's and all, but that is not a 2k guitar imo. I mean, to each their own. But, it is cool about him donating his share.

The finish looks very very similar to a USA PRS S2 satin which are one of the best guitars going for the money these days IMO. I own two S2s and they are both amazing.

I feel it was problably the best sounding guitar you've ever demoed. Kinda plain looking, but oh man, it screamed and the overtones were sizzling. 🙂

I got nearly the identical guitar from Gibson at guitar Center on sale for $575 about three years ago. Mine only has one volume and tone and otherwise it’s pretty much the same guitar. I think these will sell out at over $2000 because people love Rick Beato but there is nothing really special about these guitars. Although I really like mine especially for the price I paid😂

I’m sending mine back. The binding was very carelessly scraped and left rough and full of chatter marks. Then it was poorly masked off, the paint was applied thickly, then the masking was pulled off. The resulting sharp, jagged edge looks and feels terrible. Almost goes without saying that the fret ends are sharp. The nut looks barely finished, there appears to be a crack at the nut on the treble side where the fingerboard is delaminating from the neck; on the bass side a corner of wood chipped and was painted over. All might be forgiven if the guitar were light and resonant and played like a dream, but it’s 8.4 lbs and feels like it. The fingerboard is a nice piece of wood, the case is nice, I like the neck in hand (aside from the atrocious binding), but with the weight and the finish issues vs. the price I just can’t live with it. I believed Rick’s spiel and I was prepared to pay more for charity. This guitar doesn’t feel right, though, it makes me feel like a mark.
