The whole storyline felt so bland and rushed to me, which is frustrating because Penacony as a concept is very interesting and had so much potential.

someone who understands pacing?! FINALLY! I've been accused by so many chuds of being unable to handle slow scenes, and I'm so tired of explaining "THAT'S NOT WHAT BAD PACING MEANS!"

"You just don't have the attention span to appreciate a good story. Media literacy is dead" Seen that one dozens of times.

I 100% agree on your points pacing issues in the story like a million percent there were a lot of rushed things and slow burns, but I do disagree on the idea that Firefly and Robins "Death" holds no purpose in the story because they were fake deaths. Firefly dying holds a purpose at the beginning of the story to make us want to investigate because we as Caelus/Stelle like Firefly. They could have introduced firefly and making our bond BETTER than they did or say March could have died instead, but thats one purpose. Through investigating firefly serves another purpose, Something Unto Death and figuring out what they are and if death is real in the dream in the first place. This is a straight tie-in to one of the themes of penacony, being dormancy of the peoples will under The Order. It's meant to be the catalyst that lights a fire under our ass to lead us towards the endgame. Robin's death serves a purpose in lighting a fire under SUNDAYS ass, but also as a wake up call for Robin. Robin would have ended up singing in the charmony festival if it wasn't for Something Undo Death swiping her, and this directly lead to Sunday taking the position, but also importantly gave him the oppertunity to see the other side like Robin did and STILL choose to do it his way as a villain. This way he isnt just misguided, he's actively making this choice in spite of getting to have the same wake-up call as Robin but promptly ignore it. This makes both Robin and Sunday stronger characters as their ideals really shone through despite having the similae experiences since childhood and then in this moment. Something Unto Death is introduced as a big bad due to our initial conceptions, but that turns out to not be the case which we get to find out thanks to Adventurines actions. The initial push of Something Unto Death as a villain and then Galleghar as a villain is meant to mislead us the player into reaching an incorrect conclusion, which we correct once we actually find them later to reveal the TRUE villain of Penacony, Sunday and The Order. This is how they wrote a pretty solid plot twist that had multiple foreshadowing moments such as Sunday's first talk with Sparkle or what he did to Adventurine, by making someone on our side seem like the villains. My conclusion is this, I believe the intent of the deaths of Firefly and Robin were not meant to only shock us, but deflect our attention away from the real villain of Penacony. Robins actively makes us feel bad for Sunday and concider his actions like a grieving brother by the end of 2.1, only to be hoodwinked in 2.2 when his true motives are revealed, and build Robins character in the process too. And Firefly is meant to get us on the path in the firstplace because we are supposed to care about her, even if it wasn't implemented perfectly. An additional side thing to add to this is simply Sparkle, who is actively a red herring in every way because the story is trying to keep us from reaching the correct conclusion for its plot twist in 2.2. If you concider this kind of writing PEAK or not is up to the person, but I was always second guessing my own theories trying to untangle the story and I personally had fun doing that, playing detective. In that respect, I can appreciate the writing of Penacony. Much love, from just another Trailblazer.

brruuuuhhh i'm so glad you said the shit about fireflys death. i've been saying that SAMETHING from day one. that we barely got to no her and that her death wasn't SAD it was just SHOCKING. hoyoverse has a problem with earning the readers emotions ESPECIALLY when it comes to death (teppei, and that one girl in sumaru in genshin) its as if they never fully recovered from Final Lesson and are scared to actually develop a character before killing them. AND SOME HOW PEOPLE WERE STILL EATING THAT SHIT UP. felt like ive been taking crazy pills for the past few months. this video was a breath of fresh air. i needed this 😌 now i'm gonna go a step further and say yeah belebog was better that penecony... but belebog was still bad 😅. but thats a discussion for another day. Edit: i wrote that first part immediately after you started talking about firefly, before finishing the video. now that i've finished it, my only quest is how tf did you get into my head.... because from beginning to end you've been saying EXACTLY what i've been thinking. word for word. bar for bar. from the pacing issues because of the patches to it seeming like it a high school essay and they're trying to pad the word could. i'm SO glad i'm not alone in thinking any of this.

Reading reddit and twitter will do that to you when everyone is hyping up the Penacony story because of this Shaoji guy.

I think the best thing about Hoyo games is everybody has a different opinion. Pencony has been my favorite so far and I don't think it can ever be topped for me. But it's for very personal reasons. I felt close to Firefly from the beginning because she reminded me immediately of my best friend who passed away a few years ago. Also, literally almost all of the side quests are intertwined with the main story (more so than usual) and made the main story feel a little more fleshed out. Three of them were especially good and they have a sort of moral dilemma the story wants you to chew on. Depending on how you answer, it completely changes the endings. It's been interesting to see people argue over which ending is "right" or better 😂 But I won't lie, Pencony was so confusing to me that even when I looked up explanations I still didn't get it right away.

One of my difficulties with Honkai Star Rail is actually the dialogue - it feels very bloated and overstuffed to the point where it just feels like such a drag to listen to. This is before we need to have a glossary on hand 90% of the time. I also dont feel we got to know any of the characters: Robin or Firefly enough before they "kill" them.

Thank you for the video. I sometimes think I go crazy too. I loved Belebog and stopped playing during the whole Dang Heng IL thing. Just wasn't interesting. Came back for 2.0 and sticked around till 2.2. I'm not even interested about the 2.3 end of Penacony. While I liked the concept the delivery just felt off. Couldn't get into the story again. Belebog is still peak for me and I'm kinda disappointed. Genshin got better with it's storytelling, but hsr feels worse and worse. Hope they can get it right again. Or... it's just not my taste anymore. Seems like a lot of people like the direction of hsr. Maybe I'm just not the person that the game is catered to anymore.

Concise stories in Gacha games? (Impossible) The new Wuwa patch is looking good though, have some expectations for it.

Belebog > Penacony story. Glad I'm not the only one. I'm not gonna taut Belebog as the pinnacle of storytelling. However, it was a simple story that was excuted well, and I highly value the excution of story. Everything since then has been trying to tell more interesting/complex stories, but their executions have been poor, in my opinion (Examples: Loufu---low hanging fruit. And 2.1 [the Aventurine character quest in the middle of a main quest] could almost entirely be skipped [like 90%] and lose nothing in terms of understanding the story).
