One thing I have learnt over time is that the moment you learn to leave alone then you need no body to complete you. Being at peace with yourself is the most important thing one can ever have. Approach relationship with logic and not emotions, that was powerful

Forgive her and pursue the cause of your happiness as you put your past as a lesson. But when he smiles...his face lights up and it is my prayer that through the therapist that is walking him in the healing process this will bring the desired results. My father is from my village but lived in Nairobi. I came to know about him when I was in 2nd Year campus. I waited until I finished university and contacted him after being given his contact by one of my step-sister after I met her in the village. I one day thought I could talk to him and ask his side of the story though technically I never ever confronted my mother about him, I called him and introduced myself and said I wanted to meet up with him, He said that he was not around but when he comes back he would communicate with me and that is the last day we ever talked. ''Hajawahi toka kwenye alienda'' We are total strangers who meet on the road when I go to the village. I personally don't like him since I gave him a chance which he never took. I definitely never expect him to ever approach me coz I will never give him a chance since now I came to realize is that its his fault. Am a father of one son and I have raised that kid from the day of conception and up to now and I have a very stable family and I thank God for that but I can never allow anyone to control my life. Please note I was his First kid and for that matter a son. Thankyou mum and my grand parents for stepping up for me when that coward could not and I know that that is the guilt he has. I have never felt a void in my heart despite never calling anyone dad. Am so happy with my life. Never force issues in this life.

I was moved by this gentleman’s story, since I grew up in a small community without the acceptance or love of a father who didn’t own me. I noted many similar points in his story like resemblance! I had a similar problem but managed to make some good money, which has helped me cope. I still have huge problems with family to the extent i dont see the need for one. I find it sad when i some wannabe rich women claim that they dont men in their lives while they have kids. Its a disaster in the making, especially for sons like me.

For me I see Micheal as a person who's been handpicked by the Most High. Micheal you are victorious and an overcomer and you are also evidently divinely protected. Kindly complete therapy and healing first before marriage and children because these generational things just find a way of repeating themselves if they're not dealt with. When you spoke about writing to Maya it broke my heart because if she happened to be real it would have meant the cycle has actualized again. Also please look into deliverance if you haven't already. I believe God has selected you to break the curses in your family and to bring awareness to the nation/world at large . It is well with you and know the worst has passed now. The healing process has started and you're on your way to a very wonderful future and you will be a great father IJN. God bless you and keep you. May he shine his face upon you. It is well.

...so for those who always judge single parents (mother or fathers it's no longer mothers only) for not introducing the other party it's because they don't want the child to face outright rejection. We do the math and figure God is still alive. As for the father of this guy, hmmm, very unfortunate. Meanwhile take note that what this young guy constantly mentions is stability, belonging and consistency. Not money. So those who don't want to pay child support that's fine. But can you be consistently present and be emotionally and psychologically stable? This guy never says he was hoping to meet his dad and leave with a sack of money. As for the dad, shame on him. At some point in life one has to be daring and mature enough to accept his own despite the consequences. And Pauline wanted to manipulate this guy. Calling him dead beat is part of manipulation and nassisism. She knows what it means to him to be called that. He must see her for who she is as opposed to imagining he is deadbeat. And am very happy he never fell for the pregnancy trick. Am a lady btw.

Thank you for Part 2,we are grateful. What a traumatic story ,very triggering but also very uplifting .We can learn good lessons here as family.Sometimes your parents home is not the place you feel safe and that’s okay. You don’t have to be in a place where you feel unsafe until the right time ,if you find a place you feel safe be there and try to heal .When a child is lashing out ,parents should know there is a reason behind it ,most of it is associated with trauma ,we have parents especially African parents who do not want to accept that their children are facing mental challenges, they look away instead of offering help.Family can hurt you so bad but pretend they did not do anything wrong. It comes a time to forgive and forget them ,if anyone or family hurts you forgive and stay away from them ,from the pain they keep inflicting on you ,that is another way to heal, it means you choose yourself, learn to choose yourself always. The pain you go through is never pain God will not use to bless you. When we are going through pain we think God has abandoned us.People around you will say God has abandoned you ,but their laughs and gossips is what God will use to uplift you right before their faces .I remember the times I cried so much to God and asked for my blessings and after so much pain God blessed me. To anyone struggling.God is listening and seeing ,cry to the Almighty Father and ask to be blessed.Remember to be kind, love genuinely ,Follow the ten commandments and hold tight to God.God is your best friend, your family not anyone else.God will bless you in your suffering and deliver you from pain.I am sending love and big hugs to all the people who are struggling.May God remember you.

All that you see,is not all that there is! I am proud of Mike because of him being intentional to heal and to be better. His father's behaviour has a root...his dad too has something deeply rooted that's spilled over into how he embraced(or lack of) his son. True and complete healing will come from a source greater than therapy. An intentional connection to GOD who is our Source will help Mike see the root and the beginning of this that has really hurt him and this will help him disconnect from the root for him and his children. It's transgenerational. All that you see,is never all there is.

What an articulate, eloquent and highly intelligent young man. You tell a very painful story with an amazing calm grace. There are so many lessons in this story, but the one that really stood out to me, is the way the mom was so strict. We African parents tend to be sooooo strict, that the children grow up so scared. Had the mom not been very mkali, Mike would have opened up to her and told her all what he was going through. She provided material things very well, but nothing emotionally. I am very happy the way you have resolved a lot of the issues In your life. I am very happy you are going for therapy because every thing can be healed as long as you put effort. I wish you find a good lady who will make a wonderful wife, and you will make a great father. Come back and tell us more after you get married, I really enjoyed listening to you.

The people we look for teach us that we don’t need them, I stopped looking and explaining myself to people and being present and discarded over and over again. If peace means being separated from my loved ones I take that, I grew up rejected and no one thought i would amount to much, i felt the constant need to draw people to me/ people pleasing and many took advantage and took what they wanted and more then left, I was always hurt when people left my circles like truly heartbroken now I accept rejection and choose not to present my case or side of the story after giving my very best May you keep prospering brother, God bless your family. You will keep thriving, I always wanted a family of my own and God blessed me with two children am not a perfect mom but through these forums am learning more each day

Thank you Lynn for this episode. Mike was so open and trueful about the reality of his childhood and the way that physical and mainly emotional abandoment has on children, even when we are adults. I especially love this views on being intentional when approaching relationships. I wished I had had his insight many years ago when I saw the red flags in my relationship, with my now ex-husband. I wish him God's blessings as he will one day be an amazing father.

This guy is so thoughtful, good with words, intelligent, wise beyond his age, philosophical & intentional with his words. I hope that parents have learnt a lot from this conversation; namely, be present. There's a lot we assume we know about our children but their perception of certain 'insignificant' things in their lives can break us, if we knew. I wish you nothing but the best Mike. May you have your heart's desires.

Similar to my story was brought up by a single mom too,we were staying at the coast and my dad had remarried when I was to sit for my kcpe my mom passed on,that’s when I started reaching out to my dad after my results were out and to my surprise my dad avoided me at all cost he never wanted to hear me out about my going to high school instead he said to me he couldn’t afford to pay for my school fees instead he stated that I should join a tailoring school which I agreed fast forward three months after joining the tailoring school he couldn’t pay fees too, from there on I had to drop out applied for my ID at the age of 16 which I had to fake and add 2 more yrs ahead, after I got my ID I never looked for my dad again started searching for jobs luckly I got a job at a tender age my aim was to go back to school,3yrs later my dad got really sick and they called me to go see him the 1st thing i did when I saw my dad i started crying I went to his bed held hand tightly and kissed it coz he couldn’t talk he was just pointing at me and mumbling the next thing we were both crying😢 Later on that evening my dad was rushed to hospital and that’s how my dad passed on,am not bitter about my dad I forgave him coz he had his reasons too and am at peace now still going on with my education soon will be joining a nursing school, thanks Mike for sharing your story

I had and still have my mama mkubwa and mama mdogo. I have my 'mama Eddies too' An uncle who is stable and will open his home and listen to me' my home is free for you'.I was an emotional child too.I have searched to be claimed and to belong too.My father rejected me after he knew of my existance.I never asked about him for years since nobody mentioned him. When I asked, the response was not that good. But he is alive somewhere,I resolved never to worry or look fir him.If he's alive and knows I exist,he could have made an effort. But as Mike said,"the people we want are likely to prove to us that we don't need them" I have learnt to be thankful for those who stepped up when he decided I was not part of his life.If he ever shows up,I have no idea of how I will react.I might freeze too cos that's how I react.

Been waiting for this continuation since yesterday. I can feel the pain in Mike's voice, unfortunately when divorce happens it is children who bear the brunt. Especially when one of the parents chooses to be absent in their lives. As parents, if we choose to go separae ways, let us normalize co-parenting so that our children don't suffer from the side-effects of our choices.
