It's crazy that the too long for a child statement is typically made about black girls and coming from black women. Yet the same women will fawn over the long hair of another type of child. This comment section gives me hope that we are growing out of putting additional constraints on our children or negatively labeling them when they are only doing the same as children of another race/ethnicity. I love seeing moms like this who move off their daughters joy and happiness instead of cultural bias.

🤔🤔🤔 I disagree. I really don't care what people do with their children, but I feel the "too long for a child" comment is directed toward any child of any race when extensions are added. 🤷🏾‍♀️

@@curlybeautyblogger my niece is Hispanic and she’s about 8. She has her moms hair which is 3a . Very loose curls. But she seems to have slow hair growth like her mom who’s hair didn’t grow mid back until her teens.. Her mom did the box braids on her but did them mid back. And my comment to her was “I’m glad you didn’t do then long pass her butt like North West”. So I agree with your comment. 😂

@@curlybeautyblogger @CurlyBeautyBlogger I've literally never heard (in person or secondhand) a black woman say that a white, east asian, or indian girl's hair is too long, extensions or not. Majority of the time they will automatically assume the hair grows out of the head of the other child, but question a black child with naturally long hair and assume it's not theirs. While it may not be what you've noticed, nearly 100% of my female relatives and black friends grew up with constraints (put in place by black women) around how their hair could be styled based on if it was "too grown" or not. The only exceptions are my mixed friend with non-black moms/aunties.

@@srlittle9538 It is my experience that when people see long extensions on a little girl they say so...whether the child is black, white, east asian or indian. Questioning if the hair is fake or real based on the child's race is a different topic...obvious extensions get the comment. We also can't pretend that we don't see extensions more often on black and brown girls. 🤷🏾‍♀️ Sometimes constraints are a good thing. Not everything is for children...no matter the race.

People will always come up with stuff that they can use to interject themselves in other people's way of raising their kids. I believe it is all about intention. And this mom had the intention to allow her pre-teen to explore her preferences and it looks like they had a great bonding time together.

When I was a kid it was because long hair was a more grown up style, yet another thing girls were told was too mature for them. Depended on the ethnicity, though. Some areas of the world think short hair is too grown up and little girls should have long hair 🤷‍♀️

My sisters would say crap like "that's too long", "that's too colorful", "that's too blah blah blah." She pulled the "that's too long for you" card after she did my hair for middle school one day. I'm up in the mirror admiring the weave that almost touches my butt and she straight up cut it right in half. *My hair was naturally that long,* the weave just made it look thicker while it was straight. I was so *depressed.* I didn't have time to take out all the hair glue before school so I had to go out with this solid chop line and static hairs sticking up everywhere.. Any confidence that style would have given me just straight up wilted, and it ruined _any_ confidence I had before it too, lol. I take the weave down after school and my natural hair looks just like it. I hated her so much for that, I couldn't even. That's the first bit of jealousy I have stored in my cognitive memory. I couldn't wear her earrings with the hair either. "They were too grown for me" when she was only a grade higher. When my hair curled up after the crappy chop job it actually looked pretty good. "The mother" comes along and scrapes my hair into this tiny ass ponytail every morning because we couldn't wear fros without looking like "ragamuffins." The same woman who had short hair and wanted it to grow so badly. Perm and Puff Ball was all she spoke. It was a natural girl's worst nightmare in that place. (Bonus Story: I had this time where my hair was so dry from "The Mother's" neglect (she didn't want me to tend to my own hair tho 🙄) so I tried to sneak and comb my hairs with water.. she comes in and tells me to stop wetting my hair because I'm not a chia pet.) 💀 My experiences growing up with insecure black women, in _and_ out of school: Anything that makes you look or feel good is too old or too young for you. There's nothing that should make you feel good about yourself in this whole god-damned world. You won't hear anything like it from any other people, I swear. No other families have this hair issue where a young girl could have "too long" hair. Sure, there's parents who give their girls bobs, but it's nothing like what *we* do. We're always worried about what other people think and say about our kids that we make them live in such an uncomfortable, expressionless environment. I hate us for that. I honestly do.

I never associate length with being "too grown" when it comes to little kids. My only concern is safety because some kids with longer braids I've seen have had their braids caught in doors and on other objects😓. One little girl was running, and her braid got caught on the playground when she jumped off, and the entire braid ripped out😢. That's my only thought when I see younger active kids with really long hair and braids. 💕But this style turned out beautifully! And it's not as long as I've seen on some kids. I've seen some to their ankles.

Yeah and it’s really only in the black community that mothers and fathers will see a little black girls hair as “too grown” or “too long” or “color is too grown” and it’s really weird because they will see people with a different hair texture and they have long hair the black families will say the kid has good hair. Like what is good hair. Saying that is basically stepping your own child that their hair isint good enough because it’s kinky. They will lift up big bouncy curls or straight hair but when the curls are too tight for their liking then it’s a problem and they will destroy their own child’s beauty by relaxing their hair to make it straight. Black hair is beautiful and I wish that all black people would see that. But I love that in this generation black people are embracing their beauty and their hair and not caring what others think

I've always thought a good rule of thumb regardless of hair type, is if kiddo can look after their hair at an appropriate level, and parents have the time and/or finances to support their child's haircare where required, then there's nothing wrong with changing things up (be it length, style, colour, or whatever else!). And it strikes me in particular given how long your daughter has to sit while you do her hair like this, that she likely has a lot of respect instilled in her for the time and maintenance required, especially given she asked for it. Looks so good!

This style is too cute!! 🥰 This video dropped just in time. My 13 yr old daughter watched the video with me, and wants me to do her hair exactly like this. My daughter had very long hair, so I always had to make her braids longer. It’s nothing wrong with your daughter having long hair. My daughter was begging me to do a peekaboo dyed pink. I finally agreed to dye her hair for her. I don’t think long hair will make them “fast.” Long hair shouldn’t change a thing. They were more than likely “fast” from the get go, if that’s the case.

@@shelleygaither8410 my mom used to complain about my best friend’s hair length…it was past her bum and curly, she still wears it like that as an adult. Her mom spent hours braiding her hair so it was manageable during the summer. My mom just cut my hair like a boy’s haircut because she didn’t know what to do with curly hair (she and my mom both had long straight hair). And we’re all white. I think people have the same judgements all around, no matter the race. Partially because there are horror stories of people getting braids ripped out in accidents and partially because they don’t have the time or money to spend on it so they’re jealous of those who can. It’s the same way people sometimes talk about very athletic people, especially competitive child athletes. Their own children could never live up to that, but is it healthy for a child to be raised like that?

So much to love here. I love the energy of watching a mom love her daughter with this intensity. For me, there is something so healing about being able to love my daughter at a level that I did not receive, myself. It’s like the prayer of St. Francis: “it is in giving of ourselves that we receive.” I believe that people who say “too long” “too colorful” dare I say, “too pretty” - those people feel an inner resentment related to something they feel they did not get, but wanted as a child. In order to make their experience okay within themselves, they want others to be denied. I will also comment as a mom to a 13 year old girl. Your daughter is obviously an adored angel. And that is what God wants for her and for you. ❤

Oooor 👀 they're concerned about pedophilic predatory eyes on their baby girls. What need does a young child who doesn't NATURALLY have long hair, colorful hair, curly textured hair etc have to add those things to themselves at such a young age? And why would we encourage them to think they would even need to AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE? It's as unnecessary as putting tube tops and purses on toddlers like come on! 🤦🏽‍♀️ Doing their NATURAL hair and making it look pretty is fine. But adding all that length and other stuff is excessive and unnecessary for a CHILD. Now once they are a bit older and can start caring for their own hair and have developed their own personal style, can pick out their own clothes and they know what they like and don't like etc THEN I think it's fine to let them experiment. But think of it this way, would you let an eleven year old child wear a lace front wig with a length that reaches the crack of her booty? 👀👀 If not then why is something like this any different? 🤔

Thank you for this video I was in tears watching this, to see the pure love here and the mother/daughter bonding 💜💜💜 it took me right back to my childhood with my own mom. When I was little I had long beautiful hair that went past my butt. It was my mom's pride and joy, she loved to sit and brush it every morning and night. We really bonded during those times and it was an opportunity for me to experience the true love and care my mom had for me. When I was 9 my dad married my step mother and my parents were going through a really nasty custody battle. At the first opportunity, my step mother cut all my hair off all the way to my ears.. I had never cried so hard... she's a nasty woman and she "didn't have the time to take care of my hair" I was 9 years old and could take care of it myself and she knew that, I knew how to use the detangler and a brush. My mom made sure she taught me how to care for it on my own for the times I would be at my dad's. But my step mother was jealous of my mom and she knew how much it would hurt her to see her baby's hair cut to her ears. When my mom picked me up that weekend I got the haircut, she took one look at me and flew into a rage. My step mother smirked at her so my mom punched her in the face. She ran into the house like a coward and locked the door but that door wasn't about to stop my mom, she picked up a brick from the garden, the front door was glass and she smashed it in with the brick and chased my step mother around the house. I think the most my step mother was expecting was to make my mom cry, but she found out who my mom was that day... she put a restraining order on my mom and for the next 6 years took immense pleasure in doing any and everything she could to break me down and make me cry. I started calling her a witch to her face because I swear that woman THRIVED off my tears.. I ended up leaving at 15. She completely destroyed my relationship with my dad for sport. It was fun for her. To this day we can't stand eachother and I'm 31 now. But seeing you put so much time and love into caring for your daughters hair and seeing the two of you bond, and you building a strong foundation for your daughter by helping to build her confidence and teach her that she is beautiful and how much you love her really reminded me of those times with my own mom and I thank you for that. I will cherish those memories with my mom for the rest of my life, and your daughter will too 💜💜

I love seeing parents respect their children's choices and giving them bodily autonomy. (Genuinely) I have kids who deal with a lot of judgement and very real safety issues for various reasons and any time I'm concerned about something they want to do or wear having a negative impact when they go out in public, be it that it'll attract judgement from adults or could put them in an unsafe situation or it's culturally appropriative, etc... I explain it to them and let them factor that into their own decision-making. That way they get their own control over their body and I'm not telling them what to do, but they can also learn from the information I have and they usually make really good choices with that information! Also this hairstyle is so beautiful and she looks so happy with it - I love it!

OMG it turned out so darn pretty!!! I love the end the way she had little mini ponytail on top....really great style on her and what a wonderful mother you are....i remember going to the hair salon with my mom when i was in elementary school and i loved it, she would gossip with her hair lady and i would look through hair style books and magazines and then OMG SHE LET ME A 7 YEAR OLD LOL GET A SPIRAL CURL PERM.....We didn't have a ton of money growing up so looking back and even then i knew that it was a really big splurge for my mom to have paid for that....a mother's love, nothing like it. 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

She is 11 now, she was feeling super cute with that style ... wow the time flies been watching your channel for a long time..geesh. Anywho I braid also and I call it for me the weight factor, not a sexualization like some people would suggest. If the hair is strong enough then lighter braids can be longer and a heavier braiding style shorter braids, not trying to break necks...lol, I can remember doing my hair when I was younger in Janet's Poetic Justice braids with 13 packs of hair and woosh when you took those out you felt like your heard was missing because those braids were so heavy..lol

I pray your daughter never has to waste a minute of her life wondering what other people think about her hair. (I know the world we live in, but I can still pray right?) This look is so pretty and seems very practical for a kid (especially at preventing the knots that long hair gets so easily). Wishing you both an amazing 2024 with many blessings & happy memories!!💌

Listen for those of us who have hair down past our bums, we all know the pit falls of having long hair. The worst is when your on the toilet….. no one talks about what you have to do when your on the toilet and you gotta move all your hair around, wrapping it around your neck so it doesn’t get caught up in your wiping your bum. But I do love my long hair. And I applaud this momma for letting her child have her say on her hair. I have pics of my childhood I’ve hidden for most of my life. When my children have to go through them after I’m dead, at least I won’t be around to hear the laughing. My momma was no hair stylist, but it didn’t stop her from giving me the ugliest bowl cut. If only she let my hair grow long she’d had seen how pretty my hair was. She loves it long and hopes I never cut it.

Once I heard a boy saying " look, her hair is very long" while pointing at me, he was around 4 or 5, I was a teen, I thought it was cute. Then his mum said "yes, it's very long, and if she ever runs out of toilet paper, she can use her hair" Thanks madam, thanks...

I watched a couple of your videos so far and to be honest I love how you braid you never picked too much hair and a lot of professionals that called them self professionals need to take that key because they put way too much hair and they don’t understand that that weighs the hair down your natural hair, and it begins to break it off. Your little girl hair looks beautiful. 🦋😘. I don’t know where you’re located at, but I wish you was close to me because I would definitely let you braid my hair. Happy Easter 🐣🐇
