Nope I am a Dane and I think she has deserved to retire like any other senior citizen in Denmark. So she can devote herself to her art and time with her widowed sisters. To be 82 years and gone through a big backsurgery she can't go on working. There are a tight timesceduel, many hour moving in cars, stars upp and down, sitting for dresing, hair and makeup. Just to get a good night sleep is hard. Reprecentations of Denmark and its industrie and mercandise. It is hard even for a fit person. Fredrik and the women are friends since many many years so theire is just friendship. Don't make a hen out of a fether. 😊

I think it is gossip at its worst to try to make the Queen of Denmark’s decision to stand down due to ill health and a desire to retire into something scandalous!

I don't see how abdication would help obfuscating the rumours of her son's affair. On the contrary, i think it can magnify it. My hypothesis is much simpler. She is old, tired and in pain, and now that Christian is 18, Frederick has a viable heir himself. If something happens to him, there's no need of regency.

I agree, it's ridiculous to suggest that a Queen would abdicate to save her sons reputation. If that was the case kings and Queens would be abdicating left right and centre. They have PR people to deal with rumors and innuendo. Think about what Queen Elizabeth had to deal with!

As a Dane I can say that the whole nation went into chock 😯 when our queen announced that she will be stepping down in a fourtnight. It was a complete surprice and it was really fun to watch the clips that our National Television showed of peoples reaction around the country, when they heard the news. . Did she decide to step down because af some dubious rumours of en alleged affair? No she did not. In the hindsight you can see that she has been preparing for some time. She simply realized that she is getting old .That younger forces are needed. She told the backsurgery in the beginning of 2023 was the turning point.but it seems like it started before.that point. Most of us Danes think it is a strong and wise decision and shows her sense of mooving forward with the modern times. Lets be honest it is about time that our Crown Prince and Crown Princess get to step up as King and Queen. They are more than ready for the task. So Happy New Year and good luck to our soon to be King and Queen.of Denmark and Thank You to our Queen Margrethe, who has done a great job.

Charles and Camilla were married in 2005, HMQ could have retired a few years after their marriage, maybe when she was 82 or 83. I always was of the opinion that HMQ should retire.

This has been in the works for at least a year. This is why the titles were changed earlier than originally planned. People who refuse to research & simply toss out rumors are the issue.

Crown Prince Frederik most definitely DID NOT have an affair!! Just because the British royals have affairs right and left doesn't mean that my Crown Prince has one! He is a very intelligent man, and do you honestly think, that he would be seen in public with - and enter & leave the apartment of a lady - if there was ANYTHING to that story?? I've known him since he was born and I can tell you that he would NOT be that stupid!! Although it came as a shock to all Danes, Queen Margrethe II has abdicated because her health is declining. She underwent a severe operation in her lower back in summer of 2023 and though she has recovered very well there are very few royals to help her in her work as Monarch, so she said that she felt she could not do her job 100 %. I know my Queen. She is perfectionist, so it makes sense for her to step down. It has NOTHING to do with Crown Prince Frederik's alleged affair!

The glances they send each other when they think they are not seen are so full of love. And they have raised this litter of 4 happy and well balanced children (my god daughter taught 2 of them to swim at school). Frederik is still smitten with Mary (and the other way around) and would NEVER cheat on her! It is said on the grapevine that the Mexican lady, Genoveva Casanova, is an old friend of the royals, but she was out to make her ex-husband jealous and that's why she called the paps. I tend to believe this. I'll bet you that for that she will never again be invited to any social event within the wider social circle of Frederik & Mary! 🤭

I hope that most of your readers aren't so gullable. First of all, who would be having an affair when that person is entering and getting out of a public place by the 'MAIN DOOR'!!!!? And 2nd, about those names ( related to Epstein) for example, if one night I go to a restaurant then the next morning the media reports there had been 'Drug Deals' at that place the night before...does that would make me an accomplice? I'm not an Andrew fan but just because someone is intensely disliked doesn't make them guilty. The 12 million pounds or whatever Andrew paid Virginia Giuffree is strange in itself however it still doesn't make him guilty this is circumstantial. It does raise questions though as to why he wanted Virginia Giuffre to go away and paid her off such a hefty sum. And what about the other famous people on the list such as allegedly Gates, Clinton etc? It's only fair they are given the same level of scrutiny as Andrew or maybe it's because they have already paid more than 12 million pounds to pay off Virginia Giuffre.

The media totally invented that mega-million dollar payout to Virginia Giuffre. The amount was never disclosed, so the media made it up for clicks. Since Virginia "lost" that famous photo as soon as the court required her to submit it for authentication, she had no evidence whatsoever that she and Andrew had even met. She would've been lucky to get cab fare home.

Issue with son is not enough to abdicate just to cover up. She is a queen and a very powerful woman in which she can settle everything with out abdicating. Do not accuse anything against the queen her royal majesty. She is a good, gracious queen of the kingdom of Denmark like her cousin Queen Elizabeth of England.

Respect for the most wonderful and gifted Queen in the world. The abdication was announced on New Year’s but would have been in the making in official circles for a long time.

I have family in Denmark. They have told me that she has the right thing. This will allow her to enjoy the rest of her life. She is a great artist. It will allow her to work on her art.

Two knee ops, cervical cancer, Covid twice in 2022 at age 82 and major back surgery twice. The last time in 2023. For some time now, when receiving people she remains seated while Prince Frederik and Princess Mary stand next to her. She said that her health was the reason for the abdication. I prefer to believe that she is not a liar.

While there’s no excuse for what Andrew did…. He officially withdrew from royal duties in 2020, and his military affiliations were returned to the Crown. He wasn’t seen again until his father died, where he did what was needed. He wasn’t seen again until his mother died, where he again did what was needed. He hasn’t been seen since. He and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson live at the same castle, where they care for the two corgi’s still alive when his mother died.

It will be good for those names to be released in the Epstein case as it does seem to be Prince Andrew who has taken the largest fall other than Epstein and Maxwell and their have to be plenty of others that have sat back and not said anything.

An abdication probably has been in the works for a long time, not an all of a sudden decision. How in the world would her abdicating cover up an alleged affair of her son's? In fact with him being king it would just encourage gossip mongers such as this " female reporter" to spread more rumors about a king rather than just a crown prince. Queen Margrethe abdicating would only fan the flames rather than cover up an affair. I really don't care if he had an affair or not. He probably just used bad judgement as they did not seem to cover up at all him being with the woman for dinner and stopping by her apartment before he caught a flight somewhere. So what? The British Monarchy do not abdicate after the official coronation and the *anoiting* (remember, Edward VIII was not crowned/anointed) but the other European Monarchies are not anointed. It goes with the title "Defender of the Faith", and signifies a pact with God to serve that is only broken by death. If the Monarch is not able to fulfill their duties, they can call on the Councillors of State, or King Charles - for example - could appoint Prince William as his Regent. God save the King!

our Monarch is the head of the Lutheran Church. And we have elected to have Margrethe as Queen. The Crowning ceremony has been scratched since the Monarchy was made into a constitutional Monarchy. It was not forced, but a suggestion by the then King.

I don't think the alleged affair was the reason. It was poor health.

If these things did truly happen why has it taken them 13 years to say something?

What about the names going around of ex parliamentary officials that are in the list. Why focus on Andrew, why ouah his name to the forefront and hids parliamentary officials who are voted in.

Queen Margarethe (sp) has been in poor health for some time. She’s had extensive back surgery. I have a very compromised back. I’m 75 y/ o & told by my orthopedic doctor that if he could do surgery it would take years of rehab & no guarantee of the results. This is Osteoarthritis. Some new drugs are coming. Given that choice I chose to enjoy my life. Years of therapy, no thanks! I hope & pray the the Queen is able to live a full of joy & good health. Besides being a cousin of QEII they were very great friends. Nice to know they were not totally alone.

Give Andrew a break!!! Now every single sl*t is coming after money.. shameful too!

Jenny Bond, has it ever occurred to you that Queen Margarete would like to enjoy her life with her art works and with her two also widowed sisters? I still remember while visiting the Island Funen on the weekend when her Father died. It was very sad. All these remarks about the future King does not serve any purpose, perhaps it makes some people happy that not only some members of the British royals strayed.

No, I don't think so, Danes don't give a damn about Frederik's affairs. It is a well known fact the Queen's last surgery was a tough one.

Queen Margrethe is elderly. She may also want to enjoy seeing her son take the throne. She is also still alive to give him advise. She sounds sensible.

I call BS on Fred having an affair - he's not as stupid as his younger brother & he wouldn't dare do that to Mary who is just as popular & loved by the Danish people as his mother. Queen Margarete has not been in the best of health for quite some time - she is not as 'Radicle' as you think - just because she stripped her grandchildren of their titles is preserving the monarchy - the king of Sweden did the same thing many years ago to his grandchildren. It stops exploitation of the titles like what harry & meghan have been doing for the last 4yrs.

How can an abdication cover an affair?

Lots of Royal visits are just turn up no behind the scenes work, yes William and Catherine have not done as many but there is a lot of research and office work they are doing, Catherine's early childhood work takes research and contacting organisations, big companies want to deal with Catherine herself not the office staff, same with Williams Earthshot prize and his new homelessness work, yes office staff can do do much but at the end of the day, once again big business and the people donating large sums of money want to speak to William. I think a program following William and Catherine around for a week could be interesting, not just their public work but the behind the scenes stuff, so people will stop calling them lazy. Though it was agreed with the late Queen and Charles that William and Catherine would have a lighter work load so they had some time being proper parents, the Queen recognised that her children were left to Nannies to often, and Charles recognised he should have spent more time with his boys, so they wanted William and Catherine time to be better parents. I do believe they thought that when this was thought up it would be William and Catherine with Harry and whoever he chose would share the workload between them , which would mean the Wales possibly doing a little less than they are doing at present. One also assumes that William is learning the ropes by getting duplicate copies of the red boxes his father gets everyday, so he is kept up to date with what is going on, we will most certainly see William and Catherine doing more and more as the children get older, just as we are now seeing Edward and Sophie doing more now their children are older.

I don’t think she did it to cover up the affair if there was even one. Earlier last year she was striped her 2nd born’s children of prince and princess titles to get ready for this. She is getting old and probably have health issues. She saw Queen Elizabeth limited in her engagements at her later years. I think she is doing the right thing which is best for her, her family and her country.

No one should care wether Prince Frederick had an affair except his wife!

Of course it is not to cover up anything. That affair, if it even was an affair, is long gone. Nobody talks about it anymore anyway…so to say that is the reason.. is far out (said by a dane). Queen M’s back-issues, are far more serious than we know. The way she walked at the “Nytårskuren”, dragging her left leg behind her, shows that she is far from over it and she probably never will. And then she would like to see and support her son as King. It makes it at Happy occasion instead of like i Britain with death and sadness.

The woman is 82 for haven's sake! At her age nobody needs any reason to decide on anything. When you are that age you just want to be left alone with expectations of others, especially in politics. Bla, bla, bla.

This is utter crap. There is no way Queen Margarette is abdicating because of any unproven affair. The fact he was so open when he could've been covert...would suggest he had nothing to hide. The Queen brought this to the attention of the Parkiament a year ago...she's removed titles etc during the year in preparation for this. She's 80 years old , suffering ill health...etc. She knows Frederik and Mary are popular with the public too, and wants to let them get on with her slimmed down Monarchy and for their son Christian to be next King.

Our Queen Will never pass the title to keep her son out of trouble. Quite he contrary ..

Hardly representative of the country, but I have some family in Denmark, and most Danish people and the press don't seem to care about the Crown Prince's alleged affair.

Of course we would care, if we believed that story. Mary is very well liked and respected. But they have seemed close and in love since they were married, and I don’t believe he would ever jeopardize what he has built with her.

I'm not following the logic. Wouldn't an heir to the throne's alleged infidelity be a reason for the reigning monarch NOT to abdicate?

I don't think that she would make the great step of abdicating to 'cover an affair' that may not exist, or if it did, has already been made public! I believe that after having back surgery the Queen is in quite a bit of pain, and has considered what is best for herself and her country, now a Coronation and transition is planned, no surprises.

Prince Andrew didn't have any Grace to fall from.
