You should continue with reacting to her albums. The best way to do it is to go chronologically, so you can see her growth and changing mindset. About her in short - her real name is Elizabeth Grant, she is from NY, from rich family, she used to sing in church. She have bad relationship with her mother since she was a kid, she had problems with alcohol at very young age, so her parents sent her to boarding school, as she mentions in the last track. Then she spent some time in Spain, then she was with her uncle on Long Island and he taught her to play a guitar. She worked as a waitress and started to sing in small bars in NY just for fun. Then she studied metaphysics and tried to start her career under different names. Even though she was from rich family, she lived in trailer park for money that she gained in some music competition. After years of trying she finally succeded with Born to Die as Lana Del Rey. She has been always interested in old Hollywood, glamorous things, American dream, religion, afterlife and mortality, some of her close people died and it negatively influenced her as a teenager... and also in Radio, "my life is sweet like cinnamom", so it is bittersweet. And that theme of fame is continuing in Paradise and other albums, so you will hear her changing perception of it.

Also in "This is what makes us girls" - "I got sent away, I was wavin' on the train platform Cryin' 'cause I know I'm never comin' back" - she was sent to boarding school in young age to get sober.

The fact that she starts her entire formal discography with the question “why?” is just mind blowing. Like yes, why? Why are we here? Why are we on this planet? Why are we experiencing this reality? Were we just Born to Die? I feel like there are gonna be studies on Lana’s legacy as an artist years from now. About Lana Del Rey discography it goes like this: You were right about this one. Born To Die is Lana's most commercial successful album. It was were we all fell in love with her, it is indeed a fan fav. Ultraviolence has a different sound, a more psychadelic rock album. Many fans are crazy about this one and it is the favorite of many. Honeymoon is a little divisive. It has a really cinematic sound. It is the favorite of some, and others don't care that much. Lust For Life is Lana's most "pop" album. It has great songs but I don't think everybody is crazy for this one like the others. With Norman Fucking Rockwell the game changed! Almos every fan and their mommas think it's her best, critics loved it and finally got Lana her first AOTY nomination from the Grammys. In 2021, Lana released two albums "Chemtrails Over The Country Club" and "Blue Banisters". I think they are good albums, but they felt the consequences of the huge success of NFR, so they were a little forgotten. This year, Lana released Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd. I think it might be Lana's most personal and sad album. For some reason, this album hits different, is becoming a fav

a little information, btd was definitely a big album! It also sparked up a lot of hate, which brought her second album ultraviolence. (she has an ep between them). After that is honeymoon, which isnt as loved by the fandom as the first two but i think its one of the best. The next is lust for life, and after that nfr. This really is a 180 for her sound i think, from nfr onwards her maturity really shows! Nfr is a fan favourite, but the two after (chemtrails and bb) arent so big with the fans. For me theyre both amazing but not quite as good as the rest of her music but theyre definitely not skips. Her next was ocean boulevard which was released very recently

Dark Paradise I must say is one of the most saddest songs in this album… If you didn’t know, this song is about a guy that past away (dead) and Lana dearly loved him, and is how Lana griefs his death. Dark Paradise is the fact the she can close her eyes see him but remember he is now dead.

'Light of my life, fire of my loins' is actually a quote from Lolita by Nabokov. I'm not getting into details, but its quite interesting to see age gape in her songs and the issues it brings. Lana loves poetry and literature in general. She's quoted many authors in her songs such as Allan Ginsberg (Gods and Monsters in her short film Tropico) or Sylvia Plath in Hope is a dangerous thing.

Very excited to watch this journey. She really ate he house down boots with this album. I remember the first time I discovered her with the born to die/blue jeans and video games videos and just falling in love with her artistry. Looking back at my high school youth I can see the literal hold she has over us and how influenced we were by her and the music of that time. Euphoria literally had nothing on us we were wild.

Can’t wait for more Lana Del Rey reactions enjoyed every second of this video! You definitely need to continue, she’s a lyrical genius with probably most unique vocals ever! I don’t know if you caught it but in Dark Paradise the lyrics go “I wish I was dead” and the whisper says “dead like you” implying the lover she was singing about possibly passed away. (Also her real name is Elizabeth Grant for more context, Lana Del Rey is a stage name) But I think Lana was sent to a boarding school by her parents to get sober when she was younger, if i remember correctly.

In carmen, it could easily be interpreted to be about herself. Although, she didnt get her big break until born to die, she has been making music before this performing locally. "Famous and dumb at an early age." She also had a drinking problem in her teens at 14. Her parents sent her to a boarding school to get her sober hence the line "liquor on the top shelf" and other lines about addiction. Although, its all up to interpretation, and carmen could be about anyone who's young, depressed, and trying to grow up too fast.

Sometimes if you don't know her story it's difficult to get the meaning of the lyrics, but Dark Paradise explains it (the lyrics you were reading missed the most important part, the whispering: "I wish I was dead, dead like you" ). In Blue Jeans she explains he was into some illegal things and was caught up in the game, they took him away from her life. So, this person is dead but she won't move on because it was true love. Also she was sent to a boarding school at 14 due to her alcohol addiction. At 16 she was sent from the boarding school straight to Spain to live with a unknown family and not allowed to come back home. (This is what makes us girls). Her mom was a terrible person to her, never support her daughter and helped her, so that was the beginning of her life doing whatever she needed to. Btw, Carmen is her! I highly recommend you to, once you finish an album, watch the music videos. She always explains everything there. ❤

In summertime sadness, its heavily implied especially if you watch the music video, that her friend commited suicide and she wants to follow after her because she misses her so much. I dont think anythings been confirmed, but its interesting how you can see this theme of death throughout this album given its name "Born to Die." In Dark Paradise, when she says she wants to die, you can hear her whisper after that line "dead like you". Almost instigating that this person died from something drug related ,with all the references to cocaine. Or it can be metaphorical like youre dead to me in the sense i wont be seeing you anymore since weve broken up, but im still griveing the loss of a loved one even if they're not literally dead. This is all just my own speculations from listening to the album over the years.
