It’s so easy to make oatmeal face cleanser! | Minimalist skincare

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I ran out of Cetaphil (or mock Cetaphil) face cleanser, which I have used for years, and was searching for a replacement for nighttime face wash when I need to remove makeup (I mostly use water otherwise, or don't wash my face at all, which is actually great for your skin!). Turns out it is easy to make colloidal oatmeal (the stuff that's in Aveeno products), and my skin loves it! Also eliminates waste, chemicals and plastics!

When I've had a damaged skin barrier or wanted to avoid physically exfoliating I soaked the ground oatmeal in warm water for a few minutes, strained it to get most of the particles out, and just used the water to massage into my face as a cleanser. Using it with the particles still in felt slightly too abrasive on my skin. The water feels silky soft and is very soothing. You can also refrigerate it for a few days if you have too much for one use.

Great idea although I’m not sure you even have to grind the oatmeal if you’re just going to use the water from it.

When I make my oatmeal for breakfast I use the leftover juices that accumulate and make a gel cleanser that is also spectacular and sooooo moisturizing! It's antibacterial and it is a moisturizer as well. So nice!

No wonder you have such beautiful skin. I need to give it a try. I currently use EVERY MAN JACK face wash, but I feel it doesn't unclog my pores as much as I would like. I'll give the oatmeal a try. Thanks again lady! 👍

Honestly I believe that a lot of what we’ve been told about exfoliating and unclogging is just marketing.

I watched this a few months ago then im back now . I've been washing my face without any facial wash product but using this every day only..I mix this blend of oats with rice (wash and cook a half done then blend) then apply n wait till 5 minutes (like use mask). I used 2-3 times per day and the result is really really suprising ..My skin became brighter and moisturized than using chemical facial wash products before. Thank you so much, ❤❤

I wear Alima pure mineral make up and a concealer from Rose Inc, which really adheres to the skin. Will washing with only oatmeal remove all of my makeup? I was doing an oil cleanse with Hemp oil, but found oil cleansing was starting to dehydrate my skin. It was great at removing make-up though.

with what you mix the oatmeal powder with when you wash your face? seems pretty dry to just rub the powder on your face without a moisture base to rub and have a soft texture to face

Just wet your face and then put a tablespoon or less of powder in the palm of your hand that’s more than enough. As soon as the oatmeal touches the water it becomes soft

Vitamin E oil, olive oil, Vaseline, are all easy options. I also love Hada Labo Gokujyun lotion. It's hyaluronic acid, you pat it on your wet face after washing until it feels sticky. Cheap on Amazon.

I don't think so, but you could try. Since you pay more for steel cut I'd say use regular oats.

I suggest you consult your doctor or a dermatologist if you have damaged skin. Probably the main thing to do if your skin is damaged is avoid doing more harm by scrubbing at it or wearing a lot of makeup. You also can wash with plain water (I do that a lot -- I only use the oatmeal flour if I need to remove makeup). I wish you luck!

Hey Marynn, you can absolutely do exactly that and it will in fact heal your broken/ damaged skin barrier. This is actually one of the best treatments, you also can use Aqauphore ointment alongside this as an occlusive moisturizer to help quickly heal and fix your acid mantel.

I don’t know why you need to add baking soda. Your face does not need to be stripped of its oils is the whole point of using mild cleanser like oatmeal.

Solely oatmeal works great for my face! I haven't considered grinding it, this does seem more convenient and less messy. I'll give it a try. For the past 16 years I have tried many different face products, I've gone to dermatologist's 3 separate times in my life to help. Simply oatmeal is all it takes!!
