    Switched from an Android ecosystem to Apple this year (iPhone SE 3, iPad 9 with Pencil, Watch Series 3, and Airpods 2nd gen, so nothing cutting edge yet). Ended up adding the Apple TV 4K 3rd gen 128 last week because of Roku doing forced arbitration along with the ads and honestly I spend more time in Retroarch than I do watching TV on it. The CPU is plenty powerful enough to handle N64 emulation, the 128 gigs storage can handle practically everything from the cart era of gaming before CDs became the norm, and after doing some homework I generated playlists and added artwork to all my games as well, with around 60 gig left over for TV apps and downloads, along with a few games from the app store. Retroarch is a killer app for this thing!

    Yeah. The AppleTV is one of the most underrated pieces of tech out there. Hands down the best streaming experience. And now with emulation…. (Chef’s kiss 😚)

    FYI, your uploads stopped when you moved out of RetroArch on the apple TV. You have to stay in that app during the upload or it stops the upload.

    It's great to download the shaders straight from the core updater, I use one called "crt-caligari" found in the CRT folder, it's perfect but only when integer scaling is selected.

    Yes! It’s awesome that shaders are just built right in and we don’t have to go look for them. I’ll have to check that one out. Thanks for watching!

    My understanding is that RetroArch allows users to play/access games from a personal server if you direct it towards one locally which should mitigate any issue of losing save files (since this would mean save data would be sent to your server instead of your local Apple TV). I’m attempting this now so hopefully this works out.

    I've tested it on two different Apple TVs, the newest model and an older model, and they both work great. Save states are there. Directories have stayed loaded. Configuration files are there too.

    @@BoKnowsGaminghow? Because unless I keep the app in the background and let the tv sleep, I’ll lose my roms.

    I believe you go to Main Menu > Information > Network Information > Interface (en01) 192. 16x. xxx. xxx. I can't remember if that's exactly right, but it's close. I'd have to check when I get home from work. Thanks for watching.

    I have a Nintendo Switch controller (enhanced - not the pro). I went through the steps up until connecting/pairing the controller with my Apple TV via Bluetooth (which states that it is “connected”) but when I press the “B” button on the controller (or any other button on the entire controller), it does nothing - it doesn’t leave the screen on the tv (as yours did when you pressed the “B” button) and doesn’t allow me to go out of the Bluetooth screen at all (I have to go back to the Apple TV remote). The controller lights are still flashing so it’s still connected, but still can’t use the controller - even when I go to my games in RetroArch. Do I need to be registering or pairing or connecting my controller through another device/app before pairing through the Apple TV?

    If the controller lights are still flashing, then it's not really connected. I would go back to bluetooth settings and "forget" that bluetooth device. Then reset that controller and try pairing it again. If that doesn't work, then whatever controller you're using must not be compatible for some reason. The official Nintendo Switch Pro controller does work, and I believe the JoyCon do as well, though I can't remember for sure. If you're using a third party Switch controller it may not work. I'm not sure about those.

    Apple TV deletes all the files for retroarch

  • @tonyrosario1940
    @tonyrosario1940Ай бұрын

    It works super well, but unfortunately it won’t last. Apple allows only 500 kb of persistent storage per app on Apple TV. This means all settings, roms, saves, etc get wiped after a few days, randomly. It also gets wiped when a new update gets pushed to the Apple TV. Until Apple changes this, RetroArch is basically unplayable for longterm use. 🤦🏻‍♂️😩

  • @BoKnowsGaming

    @BoKnowsGaming

    Ай бұрын

    My understanding of this is that anything over 500 kb goes into a purgeable storage that is only deleted if your Apple TV starts to run low on storage. I have the 128gb model and haven't had anything purged yet, but I'll be keeping my eye out for this.
