I was 35 and madly in love with my wife. Just a wonderful person. She was sadly diagnosed with terminal cancer and had 6 months to live. We needed a caregiver and hired a young girl to assist us. She was in her late twenties and so caring. As time went by I noted that she was a true angel to both of us. On the night she passed away she was in my arms and background music was playing. As she spoke her last words, "I'll always love you," this song started playing. And tears just flowed down our eyes. In her last breath she said the following words to me...if you ever remarry, marry an angel. A year later I did...our caregiver. I have never forgotten this song, which of course reminds of her passing. Dan and Coley...such good music!

I never thought i would experience exactly what this song means. I fell in love with someone and we're both committed. It's hurts more than being rejected. My childhood, married friend, sent this song to me. 😢 I'm sure he was just reminiscing, but it kind of broke my heart.

This song makes me very sad to think back that 40 years ago I should have the courage to speak up to my HS friend. I never thought about it before, but knowing now what I knew back then, things will be much different. I probably be more happier with her. I do wish I have a time machine to go back.

This is the most beautiful song. I remember this song so well. I love it. I'm so glad I grew up in the '70's.

I really love this song a lot because my dad used to listen to England Dan and John Ford Coley when he was still alive. I didn't really know what the song meant before but now I realized this one got a deeper meaning than I thought. It's sad because you fell out of love to someone you used to love and there's nothing you can do but live with it. That line, *_"Oh I wake up in the night and I reached beside me hoping you will be there. But instead I find someone who believed in me when I said I'D ALWAYS CARE."_* Let's just say I felt bad for the other person too. Hopefully they won't end up hurting each other or worst commit adultery. Anyway i really love the song a lot, totally felt nostalgic.

The message of the song is so beautiful and inspiring. It's not about dumping your spouse or something. It's about being faithful, even though you found someone more worthy for your heart. Day dream is all that is left. Morale of the story is, think twice before jumping into marriage life.

I waited...we met years ago and were separated by his going to college. We've reconnected after many years, but unfortunately, he's still trying to untangle himself from the person he ended up with that was where he was. I looked for someone like him my whole life and never found them and refused to settle. I'd rather be alone than make someone a substitute for someone else.

I view it as this. If you tell your partner you'll be there for them and you truly don't love the person, you decieved that person anyway. If you ever get asked to marry, don't say yes unless you truly know. In that case you're hurting 3 people

Bla bla bla....when i was 15 years old a freshman college boy answered my question, “Do you like me” by responding with the title of this song. It’s sad to belong to someone else when the right one comes along. He was dating a girl on and off and went out of his way to flirt with me. We exchanged letters while he was away at school and led me to believe he wanted to date me. Every time i heard this song i wanted to cry. What do you mean when the right one comes along? Break up and date me! He was my first love and i was very naive and shy. Apparently he was serious with the girl and ended up marrying her. It took me decades to get over him. It turns out that they’ve had a rocky marriage and no children. He ended up being a jerk. i ended up marrying the man of my dreams and have 3 beautiful kids and 3 grandkids...score! Isn’t that a great story? I no longer feel anything but thankful when i hear this song ha ha!

You were lucky to find the right one before it became too late. You mentioned you had children with the man of your dreams (the window to have healthy happy children past a certain age is short) then imo theres no reason to marry ( in my humble opinion) You were saved from certain disaster from that guy and Yeah def thankful that you didnt end up being the girl that was the first guy s choice. Jaypee I hear ya I started drinking Alcohol at age 14, this is funny I thought I would get a tougher sentence in court cause I had Irish name. This is also funny Neighbors gave me Beer to cut there lawns. I was a 70s kid, my first music was Partridge Family. ERIN GO BRAGH that means IRELAND FOREVER

They don't make good love songs like this anymore. The 70's had the best music. Am so happy that I grew up in the wonderful 70's.

Great song that radio doesn't play anymore.

When the right one comes along? How would you know the "right one" coming along is REALLY the right one? Maybe just by looks or physical attraction, but otherwise you'd know nothing about her! There will always be someone else, eventually, who looks or appears better than who you're with. Great song, a lot of people do struggle with this type of situation!

Hey have you ever heard of soul connections? I'm currently on my third one and it's utterly devastating yet Hastings you're enlightenment and growth like nothing else. Every person that I've had an intense soul connection with with the romantic slant to it has been in another relationship. I've learned so much from the first two and so now that this third one has come along, I've resolved to behave quite differently, honoring myself and my values and knowing that when it comes right down to it we can only be made whole and complete within ourselves. No one else can complete us. It doesn't mean that they are not still very real though, these connections.
