IT'S OVER!!! The Diamond Industry Is COLLAPSING?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I think the diamond industry is witnessing an unprecedented shakeup that could lead to its collapse, and I am going to discuss that today. Over the past months, certain headlines have popped up all over the place that signal this transformation between natural and lab-grown diamonds, and the diamond market, and as high jewelry collectors and lovers, it’s necessary to be aware of the uncharted waters we’re currently swimming in.
Back in April, Anglo American announced that they were interested in selling the De Beers brand. Yes, you heard me right. If you know anything about the diamond industry, you’ll know that De Beers is responsible for the success of the diamond market, and Anglo American has made billions of dollars from it. So why is the corporation letting go of this literal diamond mine?
And if that isn’t surprising enough, De Beers just announced that they will stop growing diamonds for LightBox jewelry- its lab-grown diamond jewelry business that kicked off barely six years ago. This news comes after they reduced prices of lab-grown diamonds by 40% in a bid to be more competitive in the market. From record-low mine output around the world to the oversaturation of the lab-grown diamond space, a lot of elements have come into play that may collapse the diamond industry as we know it. We’ll discuss all these in this video.

Great information! I grew up with DeBeers "a diamond is forever", etc., but I learned a long time ago about their monopoly. I said no to mined diamonds first because of apartheid. This is why, now that I make fine jewelry, and use natural colored gemstones, and synthetic lab grown stones for fashion jewelry. There are other natural clear gemstones besides diamonds.

That's the thing. While diamonds are indeed beautiful, the manipulations haven't helped jewelry buyers at all. I like that you explore a variety of gems for your creations. I bet they're beautiful ❤️

Lan grown diamonds basically don't have a demand, very difficult to resale, not apprrciated by the rich and wealthy

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. But lab-grown diamonds are finding a market with the middle class and younger buyers. It's only time that will tell how this plays out.

@@GemsandJewelries lab grown diamonds have been in the market for a long time like cubic zirconia which was originally heralded as the "gem that will put the diamond down". Still the demand for natural diamond remained high. Then scientists developed a lab grown gem that can pass even the diamond tester...thus the CVD diamond came about. The hardness in the Mohs scale is the same. The sparkle and fire is the same. The diamond tester is even deceived by the CVD diamond BUT, the demand for earth mined diamond remained unfazed. It will remain King of gems because people love real things - - and real people too 🙂

@@GemsandJewelriesAgreed. While I don't think diamond mines will be hit enough to close, the affordability and popularity of diamonds and the industrial demand will definitely have an impact.

Natural diamonds are rare. The diamond mines get depleted over time. This would result in their value increasing over time. Lab grown diamonds are only a cheaper substitute.

That's a great point, but, to the best of my knowledge, it's colored diamonds like pink that run the risk of being mined out. Colorless diamonds are in abundance. Not to talk of the above-the-ground quantity.

Interesting. I have heard many say that the two look alike to the naked eye. It will require deeper inspection from an institution like the GIA to tell them apart. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Yo tambien lo espero. Pero entre la caída de las ventas de diamantes en bruto y el aumento de las ventas de diamantes cultivados en laboratorio, es posible que la industria esté cambiando para siempre.

My daughter got a 5 carat lab diamond for her 10th Anniversary and its gorgeous! Best of all, they don't have to take out a 2nd mortgage for it. I'm excited about the progression but I'm also thinking about people who feed their families after spending the day digging for gems. It'll be like the coalminers who's jobs were taken by profits and robots.
