Actually increased displacement can improve emissions. Mercedes Benz did this throughout the 80’s, 90’s, and 00’s. Ex 190D 2.0 vs emission complaint 2.2 diesel.

The Getty Adventure has a much better video about this engine. Because diesel engines are tested based off their nox emissions running an 8.3 liter would cause lower cylinder pressures and less heat therefore less nox emissions. Sure it’s less efficient but that doesn’t matter because the trucks aren’t tested on that

The Democrats are hypocrisy. The production of an ICE engine is cleaner than lithium batteries. This electric BS must stop. I love my 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71 with the 5.3L V8. I get decent mileage on my 5.3. I don't have a lead foot so I see 14 City 23 Highway. I don’t like to drive past 75 because anything north of 75 and your MPG goes down considerably. I live in Columbus, Ohio for reference. If you stay out of the gas the N/A V8's can get good MPG's. At 70 mph I have seen 25.3 MPG on I-70.

I agree that the rumored 8.3L Duramax is nothing more than just talk, I can't see GM doing that in todays world. I will say though, the idea of having a beefed up I6 Duramax in the HD's would be pretty awesome. That would give GM a unique position in the HD market, offering both diesel types, I6 & V8.

I agree about the politics, but I don't necessarily agree about the challenge in making a bigger engine work in the current regulatory environment. A bigger displacement engine can run lower stresses, and that might actually have benefits that help reduce emissions. Then again, emissions targets are constantly shifting, and places like California are straight up banning ICE vehicles, so the idea of any new or big changes in ICE is kind of doubtful.... We will see.

Is there enough room between the radiator and the firewall for an I6 in a GM truck ? Realistically I don't see them putting a 8.3 in the 2500 , and possibly not the 3500 . The towing capacity and GCWR will go thru the roof into the 40,000 lb range or higher , making much bigger brakes mandatory . A heavier duty frame may also be required . That being said , could you imagine a 3500 dually on 22.5s to clear the brakes and sitting about six inches taller than they do now ? Or how about a regular cab , medium duty , with a ten foot long pickup bed , similar to the Longhorn pickups they built from '68-'72 ?

An 8.3L big-block gas (without AFM) engine from GM seems far more likely than a complex, and expensive 8.3L diesel. The I6 6.7L Cummins sounds great until you start trying to get to the back of the motor halfway under the dash; #5 and #6 fuel rails are a PITA to get to!

I'd like to see a modern diesel with a similar idea of hybrid the Tundra platform has where it adds HP/TQ. Imagine the fuel economy if the hybrid system could supply the power required to get this big truck + trailer from a dead stop to a set speed then your diesel starts to aid in output. And under certain circumstances it can utilize both i.e major head wind, and the hybrid system helps keep it in the 10th gear while towing. Build it universal so it can be utilized behind the 6.6L Gas as well.

Massive mining operations that are now booming upon in North America are not worried about the price of fuel. They need vehicles that provide capabilities that so far are only being provided by Dodge. Ford and GM need to work on the reliability of their 10 speed automatic transmission as well. Make no mistake tho the market for *MASSIVE* displacement engines from the likes of John Deere and Caterpillar is booming so expect GM to enter into upon this trend and in a big way. Full size truck market (F150, GMC Sierra, Ram 1500, Toyota Tundra, Nissan Titan now Tesla Cybertruck) definitely hit an air pocket in sales excepting the Tesla Cybertruck. Would appear to be a good time to be in the market for one of those platforms 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔

I’ve had both a LMM 6.6 Duramax and now own a LM2 3.0 in a half ton platform. At the beginning of the video I knew exactly what you were going to say. I think an inline 6 in a larger displacement for HD trucks would be a win for GM, especially with torque. It’s all about towing gains and fuel economy with these HD trucks anymore. If they lose HP numbers who cares, it’s not a race car.

The 8.3 size would be lower compression lower NOX. Maybe no DEF needed. A+. More displacement, more power, better reliability. These 6.6 and 6.7 diesels are turned up so much they become unreliable with all the BS emissions systems. I believe they should bring back the 8.1L gas engine and finish the design using the best LS technology and build the large displacement diesel for the heavy duty trucks. If you really use it to pull, it's needed.

But I've read a bigger engine will be easier on emissions while producing more power 🤷🏿‍♂️. The v8s are producing great power. My Superduty is powerful as hell. Would I take more power, hell yes but the hot Superduty is the first truck where I felt I didn't need a tune and I don't crave one. It would be cool to see a hybrid HD for that power.

There's a chance it could be a gas but 8.3L diesel can fit. Update in stroke and bore is not going to increase size of this current engine. After watching TFL tow test with 6.7L power stroke HO displacement route looks better. Why because SD dropped boost. With increase in displacement you don't need all that boost.

Not really , displacement route is just better. Ford went back to a ohv, why because its the best option. TFL tow test with 6.7L ho saw boost drop much. With displacement GM doesn't have to rely on high boost like SD.

The big three have given us the most powerful, most efficient, most reliable, and CLEANEST batch of pickup trucks ever made. Every year is an improvement on the year before, a trend since the Model T. A 1200 ft/lb truck that can go 250,000 miles with no squeaks or rattles and gets 20mpg with messaging saddle-leather seats isn't good enough? So I gotta say: WTF is wrong with you?!? Complaining on KZread that wokeism isn't giving you the truck you want!?!? Bonkers, man.
