It's Never too Late to Learn to Read

Reading Works is leading a cohesive, community effort to significantly boost adult literacy in metro Detroit. Too many adults in metro Detroit lack basic literacy skills making it possible for them to land family-sustaining jobs or foster a learning environment for their children. Reading Works partners with existing adult literacy agencies throughout the community and provides them with critical resources and tools that allow them to build capacity, improve their retention rates, and track key metrics.

    No one is stupid, no one is pathetic. So long as you practice and learn you can do anything you put your mind to. I think this is wonderful, and will help them to live a happy life. XD

    I think this is so good, these wonderful people are really making a difference! I could not read or write 9 months ago, as my mother never sent me to school. She never taught me anything, I was completely illiterate. She would always say that I was dyslexic which I new I wasn't. I was 16 when I left home and now I'm 17 I can read books and I'm doing year 11-12 and getting good marks especially in English and yes I have to pay for my schooling, which is hard but it sure is Worth it. On a more positive note, in a total of 3 months I could read at a year 7 standard and now 6 months onwards it's up to a year 10. I would love to help the adults that can't read or write one day but at the moment I have to help myself. To the adults that are struggling out there but are trying to learn how to read I say keep up the good work.

    ReadingWorks313 Lovely Video! Sorry for butting in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you tried - Millawdon Future Ticket Trick (should be on google have a look)? It is an awesome exclusive guide for teaching children to read minus the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my BF finally got astronomical results with it.

    You can always help the people struggling in your own class. See Torey Hayden. She taught a kid whose father beat her so badly, she couldn't identify letters. They thought she was just obstinate.

    www.adultreadingprogram.com this program is the best. It comes with 4 DVDs and flash cards(your brain remember things better with images) and have the same chart as this(it on the DVD but you can use excel to make it and print it out. That what I'm doing) and all the consonants and vowel blend together with a women saying every sound they make. I just brought the program I believe in 40-60 days(even tho it says only 21 days to finish). I just wanna take my time and make sure I'm mastering the information. But once I do I believe I will be a expert reader 13 grade level. Also if you want to improve your spelling buy a book called "spelling rules workbook" from amazon

    You might learn the distinction between the look-say method which is the primary beginning method of teaching reading and the phonics method which is a kind of an afterthought. It is after the child has developed bad habits that will be difficult to change. Look-say was developed for deaf people to learn to read but it is used as the primary beginning method nationwide. How is it that schools are allowed to graduate students that have not learned to read. The look-say method requires Dick and Jane type books, the phonics method you can virtually use any book for learning because you learn to make the sounds of the words. Check out some of Samuel Blumenfeld's books.

    how are you supposed to read with phonics when english writing isn't phonetic?

  • @genemodin5506

    @genemodin5506

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@jamescalhoun418 check out Marva Collins Phonics Program on KZread. She claims to have students reading by semester break and reading third grade level by the end of the year. I agree with you it is not all phonetic but instruction included to know the irregular spellings. I think it goes something as follows: 26 letters in the alphabet, 44 sounds derived from those letters and maybe 74 different spellings. One good example is the word eight. If you sound it out, I would not know what you are saying. But if you learn that "eigh" says "a" then you know to say eight for 8. I am not sure what is the percentage, my guess that English is 90 percent phonetic, if you include all the irregular spellings for the 44 sounds, then English is 100 percent phonetic.

    Bruh this may be a blessing. I'm 23 I remember being in high school reading on 5.4 grade level and being a scared to read out loud in class and just doubting myself. I found this program www.amazon.com/Advanced-Phonics-Spelling-Lessons-Disc/dp/B07SP9RSYN this summer and now my reading level is on 10th grade level. All you need is a DVD player a binder and paper and I promise you in 2 months you'll be reading words you never thought. They also have website www.40L.org where you can print off sheets to assist through the program. And if your not a good speller look into "Noah Webster blue back speller" and "Noah Webster elementary speller" all can be found on Amazon . Wish the best of luck and happy holidays. 2020 is your year to conquer this
