As impressive as it was for both players to drag those teams to a finals, lets be honest, the Eastern conference as a whole in BOTH of those post seasons was about as terrible as any other season maybe ever. It was a for gone conclusion that whoever was coming out of the east would basically be food for whoever came out of the West. If either the 01 Sixers or the 07 Cavs were in the WC, they likely wouldn't of made it past the 2nd round, and that's being generous.

In their first season together and By natural selection Wade was the best player in the finals, could you have imagine the Heat ended up winning that series and Wade gets FMVP? Why does everything have to be done the way certain older players did things? ​@@yungking1985 I can't think of one, but if we go way back the list would be long. I remember, when I was a kid, 60's/70's, Ali took a lot of heat for "I Am the Greatest". But over time, he became beloved. Maybe because Ali had a sense of comedy with Howard Cosell. I don't know if that is a fair comparison, but it popped in my head as I started to respond. Thanks man.

Ali’s greatest act took on a life of its own and nobody could argue it because he beat Sonny and was on top of the world as the champ. With Lebron it feels so forced and desperate, LBJ knows he’s not honestly viewed on the MJ level and darn sure not largely view as superior to MJ. And yes Ali as handsome, intelligent, witty, charismatic etc. Lebron is just corny/cringy.

I can't think of another example of a player being the sport. Foreman created excitement, Duran and Hagler, some others, but nothing like Ali.

To be fair, the award was for breaking Kareem’s record which was a pretty big deal. I’m a Laker fan and wasn’t too happy about that.

The problem isn’t the host. I’ve never seen such an entitled and uptight group of ppl. Unlike singers and actors, many of these athletes have been pedestaled since elementary school and don’t know how to not take themselves too seriously

Someone needs to tell Lebron that true “greatness” is not designed, planned out nor orchestrated. Real greatness comes from the combination of extraordinary accomplishments combined with the recognition from others. Lebron has an amateur team handling him; they might be rich, but for such a great player with a clean record, the amount of hate he gets is the work of having an incompetent management team.

No one thought he was going to retire. Most people who watch the NBA knew exactly why he pulled that little stunt. Dan is correct. And Dan _would know._ Because he was a pioneer in the development of ESPN. That is, _before_ they turned into the acrid tire fire that they are today.
