Swaddling isn't torture. It's necessary for some and disliked by some. My baby slept much better when swaddled because she was just so overstimulated. Some* babies like to move freely and not be wrapped up. Just pay attention to your baby's cues and figure out whether they like/tolerate it or just plain hate it.

I can see you meant some babies and not stone baby 😂 but yeah mine was one who hated the swaddle and I mean HATED it! She would do everything she could to burst out of it, turns out it was her arms being restricted that she hated so we just swaddled under her arms and she loved it! All babies are different and it takes time to figure out what they like and dislike

I disagree. We can only see our own adult experience, and it's easy to think that babies have nothing to worry about. However, they start with almost nothing, and their brains are constantly working to understand the world around them.

I saw a facebook post earlier today that said "Imagine how intense hunger would feel if you have only ever been satisfied, imagine how lonely a crib must feel after only ever being cradled inside your mom's womb, imagine how scary silence must be when you've never not heard your mom's heartbeat." It's incredibly true. Babies struggle as well, they are learning new information every second of the day even from conception and especially after birth

I learned in my developmental psyc class that swaddling helps babies organize their behavior. Mainly cuz they don’t fully understand their arms are their own and in their control, so when they see their limbs flailing in front of their face it can freak them out

My niece took a tumble when she was a year old and hit her head. ER dr needed a head xray and the tech was trying to force a 1 yr old, hysterical baby to lay still. There happened to be a nurse from the childrens hospital in the city that was working in the ER and heard baby crying. She stormed in, reemed the stupid tech, then gently swaddled babygirl in a soft blanket. She immediately stopped crying, and actually started to doze off! Nurse turned to the tech and said THIS is how you xray an infant! ❤ blessedly babygirl was fine.

Not sure why it’s necessary to be so rude & hateful to an x-ray tech. Their job is to get an image of your nieces head so that she could be properly examined and cleared for head trauma. Most education medical providers, especially an X-ray techs receive is related to the vital nuts and bolts. Working with kids is easier for some b/c it’s their nature or they have kids or in cases where they work in specialized areas like pediatrics in a children’s hospital or peds ward. You criticize the tech for not knowing how to calm your niece during what was surely a stressful time for her but it wasn’t her family who was any more able to calm her than the tech, it was a trained peds nurse. Just an observation from someone who spends their days in the ER.

It’s actually an old wives tale that the babies don’t have space in the belly. They do have a lot of free space even in the end due to the water which is not leaving their bubble. Also the fact that they rotate wouldn’t be possible if they didn’t have space. Maybe it’s not as open as it was in the first 4 months but it’s not like that baby is squished. And btw swaddling isn’t mimicking the belly but the touch of a human like when the parents hold them in their arms. And there was a study about swaddling specifically in Russia because they do it 24/7 and no real human contact and this was very bad for development. Obviously that’s not what is happening in this video I mean every parent has to have time to do some shit for themselves so whatever it takes to quiet the baby😂

Babies can move about in the womb, yes they are restricted but the womb can hold a lot if babies at the same time. Why would they not want freedom once out. And fir the person who said they had scar themselves with their hands, that I'd become they stop using mittens. And they used to cut the mothers nail as well. And for the person who said babies like it when did they tell you they do. And the other one who said if I had children I would know. I have 6 very healthy children 27 grand and 15 great. I am also a qualified children officer. Managed children homes with very young children and young mothers with babies. I also worked on the first mother and babies wards, .I personally dud not ever use a swadding cloth for my children and not a dirty piece of plastic to suck on giving your child wind . I spoke only properly language to my children and feeding the very well nothing cooked by some machine and left on a shelf for ages. They talk and walk at a very early age. I was asked they hospital could test them to see why they were so far ahead of other children. My youngest grandson went to uni at 15 after going to private school. @@janetwalsh7961 Actually, I like weighted blankets and albeit a bit TMI, I like handcuffs. Now you may not like these things and that’s ok. But just like us adults, babies have preferences. A swaddle has been scientifically proven to help the baby feel comfort, like how they were confined in the womb. In addition to that, the startle reflex could cause them to freak out and scratch their face. It’s an added safety measure too. But, if a baby doesn’t like to be swaddled, gloves a good solution to that. I know you probably don’t like the idea, but it’s not inhumane. Imagine how those little babies felt being in the womb for nine months. They are used to it and some of them find comfort from the swaddle.

He hates all swaddles that constrict his arms. Right now, I just use it without putting his arms in like you do once they start rolling, but it's kind of cumbersome. Also, the comments saying it's cruel are funny to me. Deep pressure and weighted blankets are calming to a lot of people, adults and kids, but those things can be dangerous for infants, whereas this provides light enough compression that it's safe. My friend and I joked that we might like to try one.

Same here, my baby girl hates being swaddled, I bought some many swaddles knowing how good they are to keep babies safe and comfortable, but she can’t stand it and always scapes, even days of being born she had figure a way to scape the swaddles I was amazed, I only use it sometimes to calm her down but not to sleep cause she’d wake up in the middle of the night screaming getting her arms out and kicking

Jesus Christ, my child slept through the night from the very first night. I brought him home and I never did this crap to him. I gave him a pacifier for 30 seconds so that he would not die of SIDS and I put his bassinet next to my bed, and I held his hand while we slept. Him up to feed him and change him through the night, depending on his age.. and I picked him up every time he cried. I took the 10 months and I was pregnant and studied every stud I could and ate exactly what I was supposed to and he came out perfect perfect apgar. Didn’t swaddle him because that causes needy children and I didn’t leave them to cry because that causes abandonment issues and as he got older, he never cried for silly stuff, and I also left a fan on from day one so that he would get used to noise while he was sleeping Think I’m gonna write a book because I’m an amazing parent probably the best that ever was

Two of my three kids were formula fed, (one breast fed for 2 years) all three were swaddled a few times till I discovered they hated it (my kids are now in their 20’s, eldest is 29) but swaddling was not a huge thing back then. I simply think SOME moms use swaddling in the recent years when it’s become popular as a substitute for holding their child, not that you need to hold them constantly, I sure didn’t. These things come and go with babies, in my kids day there was no issue with bumpers in the crib nor with blankets and stuffed animals even with newborns, side sleeping was a thing for a while etc etc….. You’d get crucified if you showed a newborn with a blanket and bumpers in a crib these days. Things change and us older folks need to get used to such changes…😉👍🏻

I had my two 13 months apart. My daughter, the oldest, HATED swaddling. my son was so calm when I swaddled him. Each kid is different, he just have to pay attention, but you do, they’ll let you know what they need.

It reminds me of my son 18 years ago when my mother-in-law swaddled my newborn for the first time, I was worried and I found this tradition cruel and then I saw my son sleeping for the first time after his birth peacefully without wake up, he really slept like a baby lol in my country and I think that in all Arab countries, swaddling babies is a tradition that continues, it is essential for the newborn to feel safe during the first months of his birth.

You have a baby, and be sleep deprived and miserable because your baby won’t sleep. Whatever works to get the baby to sleep and calm down is GOOD for the baby. Stress for the baby will damage its development.

Modern women swaddling their babies is one of the best things ever. Try it a few times if they don't like it wait and try it again because it will calm them down and they'll enjoy being calm. Thank you Mommy

No, it can frighten them because of the moro reflex. One of my babies could not fall asleep due to its own arms. Whenever it fell asleep, the uncontrolled movement of the free arms woke it up again. So i either swaddled it, or stuffed pillows on both sides. It did not matter- as long as the arms did not paddle uncontrolled up and down.

People who don’t know anything about babies really have to stop talking. Swaddling is meant to be temporary of course, but many newborns don’t have control of their muscles so without being swaddled in those first few weeks of life they JERK themselves awake over and over in their rem cycle They can’t control it, it makes them miserable and tired, it makes you miserable and tired, if you aren’t doing what your baby needs just because you don’t like the idea of swaddling you’re being selfish Some babies need to be cuddled, some swaddled, sung to, or rocked but you need to be doing whatever is helping THEM get a good nights sleep as long as it’s safe and it’s your job to pay attention, read your baby, and try out different things (oh yeah and actually do research for what’s safe/unsafe good/bad and don’t listen to random people) there is always going to be someone who tells you something you’re doing is wrong when in actuality they haven’t done their research and it’s what is best for your child

All adults should try getting swaddled with a blanket and feel how it feels. If you are claustrophobic this comment isnt for you to be specific. I personally like a good weighted blanket.

People hating have never had kids. Babies have a startle reflex for the first few weeks. They’ll randomly throw their arms up and wake up or cry sometimes from it. They’re used to be squished and it’s comforting to them. Same with white noise. That’s mostly what they hear inside mom is just swooshing and static like sounds. Some babies love it. Some don’t. My first hated it. My second slept the best and longest while swaddled

Swaddling is done BEFORE a baby can roll over. Swaddling is not done the whole year. Most just do it from the newborn stage to a few months old to help with the transition from womb to world
