Fact about Stinging Nettles: if you touch one and it starts to sting: find a fern, break off a leaf at its stem. Rub the white juice from the steam where it stings, it should cause the stinging to go away. We learned this on a school camping trip back in 02.

I've heard the back of the fern leaf works. We have a lot of ferns and nettles on our property. I actually have a lady coming from an hour away to come get some Nettle from us.

Nettle actually works on itself too.... if you can get it without getting stung again, chew a leaf up a bit, then put it on the sting.

Did you know that yarrow has anti-hemmorage properties? If you're in a survival situation and become wounded, you can apply a head or two of yarrow flowers to coagulate the blood loss
Just letting you know that you’ve officially corrupted me and I whispered “chuhmomuhlay” to myself today while I was organizing seeds 😂 Also, I ordered my first batch of seeds from Botanical Interests this year and everything is germinating really well 🙌👍👏
This is my 3rd year gardening and we are finally planting potatoes! I'm stoked.

We did it our first year, got like 600lbs somehow, skipped last year, and now we are aiming for 1000lbs this summer :)
You spanking that cheeked up radish had me dying 😂
Please consider making more content for those of us limited to container gardening 🙏🏻 I just purchased some terracotta pots and two Greenstalks, and I can’t wait to start planting! 🤗

I'm in Maine, and I do daikon to close the beds starting around late August/September. I like what they do to the soil, and I can harvest what I want up to the first really hard frosts. Daikon is great. Like a natural tiller, and that tap root must really mine deep down and bring good stuff up to the surface.

Do you happen to have clay or compacted soil? I heard it's a great crop to start out with for that kind of soil. Plus pickled daikon is delicious.

I have pretty good soil. Daikon is great for all soils, but you are right, especially compacted soils. Pickled daikon and carrot is the key to one of life's best sandwiches, the Vietnamese bahn mi.@@trayvixk4642

Are the flavours different in a fall planting in comparison to a spring planting?
PDPD should be a REAL holiday. Booty radish BOP BOP
Potatoes! ❤🥔
Jacques is shaking his head, thinking "He should have aerated that potato bed with a fork". 💚😆

Up next.... Jacque intros a new product.... plant tags made out of old forks.
Now that is a lusty laugh, brought on, I am certain, by the first vestiges of spring. Well done, Potato Daddy - how on earth did you know my favorite nickname for you...? Well, one of many, depending upon the season...
Im really pushing for a 3 season garden this year. I'm in Western WA East of Tacoma in the foothills. I upped my orchard by planting a David The Good style Grocery Row Garden. So far with pear, 3 plum trees and blueberries, rhubarb, gooseberries, fig in between the trees with, onions and potatoes filling some of the other area in that 4 foot wide bed. Will be getting more out soon. So excited for my monster expansion this year.
So cute!!! Carve a tomato, cucumber, and an artichoke next.
Planted one in a grow bag today. Waiting on the rest to create their eyes 🫡

You don't have to wait, just plant them, they will grow the same. Just think of the potatoes you missed from previous seasons, it still sprouted and produced potatoes.
Well, chit the bed! 🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔
Just put in a row of 'Bellanita Fingerling' potatoes in Vancouver (8b). We're back to seasonal coolness after a stretch of much warmer weather, but any frost danger is past. Always exciting to see the start of the season.
Also, stinging nettles should not be consumed after they’ve flowered, it can mess up your kidneys.
I've been waiting for the sign 🤩 I ❤ 🥔🥔!!
Love the carvings, hilarious. Like Easter island meets veggie tales 😂❤
Wood Prairie is who I get my seed potatoes from also. Never fails. And in one of my beds, even though I think I have always gotten all of them out, they keep coming back. LOL.
Wow… What wonderful, wacky whittlings of wood 😁
Cool seeing the turnip results. I might have to try those potatoe 🥔 boxes. There are a few I have not tried and grown.
I ordered my potatoes from the same place this year! It’s too soon for mine to arrive but I have most of the same ones in your first box. I love the carvings. My vote is for a carrot, next. You know…people would buy these, I bet…
We plant on Valentine's day here in south Texas. I planted Yukon Gold and Red La Soda this year. They are coming up already.
Juice the tops/greens of your veg and put the dry pulp in your compost or chop/drop. Utilize all the calories you can. Get your micro biome off the grid as much as possible and watch cravings/personality change. ♥️
I wish I had more time to garden. I have a 7 month old and he gets all my time. I stayed up late late to plant peppers and tomatoes on Sunday. Only way to have a large block of time to play in the dirt lol
I love your little wooden dudes. They're great!
8:31 when you said “neat and tidy self “, I got a visual flashback of Mr. Miyagi‘s backyard from the Karate Kid.
Love the carvings! Enjoying watching your late winter Southern California garden! I envy your growing season. That Garlic was definitely Sexy!
Days like this when I am so ready to be outside in the garden I really want to move to San Diego.
Just planted my potatoes this morning! I wasn’t planning on it but i forgot about my potatoes from the store and they sprouted, and they got about 8 inches long and started to make leaves 😅 threw about 3 small potatoes in (2) three gallon containers
Next carving: Strawberry face or eggplant, maybe bell pepper. love these, my grandma used to make folk carvings. cool stuff
Your garden looks so awesome and I love the open layout in the back garden. I'm so jealous of your growing season (we still deal with snow thru April/May in Denver). Hopping over to Wood Prairie Farms to buy my spuds now. Go Potato Daddy, go! LOL 🥔
I just started my brassicas on a heat mat this past week, along with some chijimisai and tatsoi. VERY excited to get the season going when the weather gets a little warmer!
I potted up a bare root fig, lilac, and thornless blackberries today. All of my seedlings (under lights) are stunted and stressed. Changing their soil today. Just waiting for seed potatoes to be available locally. I grow them in bags here.
Carved garlic bulb, dragon fruit and chicken egg 🎉
I literally just got done sorting my Wood Prarie Farms delivery. Sat down to my iPad, and this is the first KZread video that popped on my feed. Once again, impeccable timing.
Quicker way to hand digging. We use a post hole digger for planting. Much easier on your back😊
I have had a terrible first two years of potato harvests (got four potatoes from two plants first year and about 20 small ones from 10 potato last year) but I'm ready for a good harvest this time!
My seed potato order is on the way, getting excited! All of the ones I saved for last year are ready to go once it comes time to plant them here in MA!
I'm planting mine on Sunday! 🥔 ❤
I've found each chit is a plant. 2 chits = 2 plants, 3=3 and so on. When planting without chitting, there's no way of knowing how many plants will pop up, or if the potato is even viable. If in ground planting it's not as critical as there is room for the root system to not crowd each other out as much as it is in buckets, where they are confined. Generally more plants equals more potatoes, but smaller in size either way. Just an observation from over the years of growing them both ways. Would love to see a reveal video when you harvest these. 👍👍👍 TYFS Kevin
Yeah....so I got a foot of snow this week and with the wind temps are between -24C and -39C. I would say you are doing a little better than my indoor seedling greenhouse.
I'm really excited for gardening season! Finally had a sunny, nice day here in zone 6.
Going to definitely grow potatoes this year. Have some growing eyes. Feels like spring coming up here. Mild winter for sure, excited for some gardening.
My brassicas just "broke ground" (indoor germinating) a few days ago - and I am STOKED. Hoping to get those and onions in the ground by first of April. Herbs, flowers perking along ... 'Maters, cukes, peppers, and other true summer veggies must wait .. but getting really jazzed about this season.
The pepper wooden man looks like Jose jalapeño on a stick from Jeff Dunham comedy tour😂
In addition to pickling daikon, you can pickle other types of radish, and also turnips and beets. Pickled beets are a nice snack when drinking. When you finish eating a jar of pickled beets you can use the left over pickled beet brine to pickle eggs, which are also a nice snack while drinking.
Always enjoy the content, Kevin. Suggest sharing with your audience the difference between determinant and indeterminate potatoes. All the potatoes planted in the video I’m assuming we’re determinate potatoes based on how they were planted. We find many nurseries don’t label potatoes their determinate potatoes for backyard gardening. Gardeners growing in containers may find indeterminate varieties more amenable so they can fill as they grow, but they would have to plant differently if they were determinate.
I need to consider growing some potatoes 🥔
Omg! The carvings are fine! A man of MANY talents?
Right out the gate grabs the stinging nettle like its nothin lol!
I have been trying to get a grip on potato and sweet potato Sweet potatoes are growing pretty well. They got a lot of sweet potato bugs but otherwise healthy. They are probably here because I also have water spinach which they also feed on. meanwhile, I keep having rot problem with potatos. I find it very hard to determine the appropriate amount of watering that would not give them rot, especially when rain's involve.
Hello from Central FL zone 10a! This cool season, I was able to try my first real attempt with potatoes, I went with 3 large grow bags for 3 types of potatoes (Yukon gold for obvious reasons, Russets, and Reds). We had about the wettest "dry" season I've heard of for a long time around here, so they didn't do as well as I would've liked, but I ended up getting a respectable harvest from them! I'd say I got around 3-5 variable sized potatoes for every seed potato planted. It's sort of ridiculous how much better they taste when this fresh, and it's sort of hard to describe.. because it is distinctly potato, but.. better.. more tender. I may not be a Potato Daddy quite yet... but maybe a Potato cousin? or Potato fun uncle? lmao. Happy harvests
I like your Potato Party Packs
The potato totem reminds me of the "California Raisans" from the eighties. My southern heart still breaks whenever you compost turnip greens.
Your walkway that you put in looks FANTASTIC!! Love it!!
Oh I'm gonna plant my fave type of potato : supermarket 😂 thanks to you I am now having fun with buckets!
so ready for potatoes! cute totems kevin!
i just got my first graden tower project 2 and have started some jalapeño papers and scallion/onions in it for the time due to my last frostdate but i'm so excited about getting the rest of my crops started acording to the start date's, direct sowing seeds. thanak you so much for all of your knowledge and experience, incuragement, i can't wait to see how it all turns out. ❤❤😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤ I have also been refering all my friends to check your chanel out and order seeds from you because i know that your a reliable source, my garden tower came with seeds from botanical interests. :) ❤❤😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
So my vote for your next carving is a Booty Radish hehe 😆 They look amazing! Now I want to try!! Also meant to say it's so cool y'all are stocking the Freyr Trellis now. I just bought one locally but I'll probably get a 2nd one from you fine folks! Thanks for all you do to inspire us gardeners.
Well it’s definitely not Spring yet in Portland. Winter is still here. Our last frost date is April 20th. I will be prepping the garden beds with Compost and starting some seeds in the garage. I did put my seed potatoes in my grow bags though. Still need to wait another month to start tomatoes. It’s a game of patience. Thanks for sharing.
I love the weird root crops, that's the fun part!😂
We need a tribute to the cabbage you lost. Add him to the squad 🙌
I'm in zone 10a. first time planting carrots, and hungarian peppers. Love your carvings, think you need an eggplant.
I just remembered how good sauteed beet greens are.
Favorite point of video - the "booty" radish 😂😂
I like that earthy outside chopping block
Potato daddy back at it again!
Maine potatoes are the best. Sebago lake maine here. Best seafood ever. ❤. Just received greenstalk and book for son and his gf balcony. Thanks ❤
Nice carvings maybe you can do some carvings of like a tomato cucumber, a carrot, but make them like a little people
Your pepper carving looks like it belongs in Plants vs. Zombies. That game would give you an endless supply of carving models.
Happy PDPD !!
love the energy this video! 🥔
You should try growing Korean radishes. They get huge and they usually don't have the sharp radish/daikon spiciness. They make great great kimchi!
As someone who has a cold winter, a little jealous of all the green, cant plant here until may :/
No scraps for the chickens? I know you did it off camera. I plant potatoes in about two weeks or so here in Rio Rancho, NM.
I can't wait! Winter continues to hang on here. Seedlings are ready, I just need Mother Nature's cooperation.
Love the carvings ❤❤❤
Thank you for all that you do and share, and many blessing to you and yours. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Love ur little carvings
in zone 4 ground is still frozen. So jelly!
I have been meaning to get my potatoes in but havent had the time to do it with managing a vineyard that needed to be pruned.
Haha Eric those wood carving totems are awesome!
My garlic is no where near that big up here is zone 6/7. Planted carrots 🥕 turnips and some sprouting onions 🧅 yesterday
It just snowed a foot where I live the last two days now we have a huge blizzard and it’s snowing more we’re completely snowed in…. So….haha
Potato daddy!
Bro has the ancient easter island genetics carving those totems.
Love the videos, thank you for the years of inspiration! Maybe a Bobca cat totem? Mushroom?
Obviously you need a Brassica to round out the squad
Thank u
Carve a real Jacque with a hat and everything
You’re so talented! 😃 I also like the potato head 🥔
Love the carvings! Individually, they all look so different, but together they are slightly reminiscent of the Moai from Easter Island! 😃
Love the squad well done. 👍🏻
I put my Hobbit Bait (aka 'taters) in the ground last week \m/
I would give the greens to the chickens. I have a special compost in the chicken run
Love the carvings. How about a carrot guy? Apple?
Obviously The Onion Daddy needs to add a little onion dude to the greenhouse carving squad!
Carve a tomatoe head now! I'm hoping to get some potatoes growing. My last attempt my potatoes were minaturized 😬🤣
I love how even a highly experienced grower, who has probably seen it all, still cracks up over a "butt radish" 😂 🍑🍑
