Question! What about using it on retro systems? they show 2 vids of it working on PSX/2 with a Pi mod. Are you going to set that up and how does it work? I want this with my PS2 so bad!

@@zombiekilldemon I understand some people have created an intermediary device with the Sinden and the Pi to make it work on old systems but it doesn't natively support it. On a PS2 the ideal would be a Gcon and a Sony wide-screen CRT. A nice 24"

@@RMCRetro yeah i understand. I really wanted it for my Backwards PS3 so i could play Time Crisis 2 straight off the disk in HD. I currently have the EMS Topgun 3 that works with it and functions like a wii mote but i cant find a second and wanted this for 2 player.

Just wanted to pop in and suggest you use a rear-projection screen and mount the projector from behind in mirrored/reversed display mode. That way anyone could walk in front or stand at any angle without blocking or interfering with the image itself. As for the mister drivers, It's awesome to hear that the Sinden gun is likely going to end up with the level of support and community appreciation it deserves!

It's a mouse input you say? That could make for some interesting zoom meetings. "Why are you shooting at me with your toy gun?" In my head, "Bang! You're muted!"

God, this makes me want to open up an arcade in my garage. Light gun games deserve a comeback.

Got my two non-recoil guns from the Kickstarter back in November, love them. Plus my kids (who have no interest in all of the rest of Dad's moldy old videogames from the 20th century) love using them.

The pain of setting this up for teknoparrot games is real. Such a long time to get everything configured...

The first thing to came to mind when you mentioned the option for a machinegun mode on the recoil, was Terminator 2 the arcade game. Much like Operation Wolf it was not a light gun game in the proper sense, but instead used a pair of guns mounted to "joysticks". But the sound and feel of those guns while rattling away at T-800s and whatsnot instantly leapt to mind.

Trying to shoot the undertaker in Mad Dog McCree has the same energy as trying to shoot the dog in Duck Hunt

Looks really nice. There is no such thing as having too many settings to play with. I’m glad to hear that there are good tuning tools available.

Thanks for this introduction. My last foray into lightguns was some custom built aimtraks - so interested to hear about these. A UK innovation too! Bonus.

You are so damn right. Sometime my weekend will just be setting up the games/ emulator, getting automation ready, linking up the respective controllers, trouble shooting etc and not playing any games.

love to see the final product working so well - hope my two Sinden Lightguns will be shipped soon as I am really looking forward to set them up on my arcade machine :)

Pretty cool, I still have a few big CRT's that work well, when they eventually run out of parts this may be a good option. Fine work Sinden.

Simple yet amazing how the gun / software uses an outer border to determine the onscreen positioning - nice tech for sure.

I could imagine doing an interactive Powerpoint presentation with this thing.

@@clobbyhardy yeah took about a year. They're a long way from plug and play but once set up they are very good.

Looks amazing, had a strong feeling it would be when I saw it back in 2019.

Hopefully this means mine will be arriving very soon as I have two on order with the recoil. Thanks for the setup tips and looking forward to playing

A nice review Neil, I personally don't use these things but for anyone else it looks pretty good. I noticed that you had an early start in the cave it must be quite cool to be in your new place and exciting times too. Thumbs up all round.

Great gun and nice review. I agreed with Mark but taking a look at some old arcade machines they had the same design so better to play with a single hand, a skill to be developed in itself.

I have a light gun for my C64, Master System, Mega Drive, Saturn, Ps1, Dreamcast, PS2 + those Guns for the Wii & PS3 so i'm sorted tbh but this would certainly be on my wish list if i did retro gaming through a PC.

I used to play light gun games then I was shot in the knee

House of the dead was really awesome on the Saturn and arcade. So I’d recommend that one.

Looks great on the projector. Wish I still had mine.

Looks fantastic, very impressed with it. I do own the G-Con45 and the G-Gon 2. The PS3 one, i cannot remember its name, but i own that too.

Just picked up a pair, and I cant wait to play Carnevil! I love lightgun games but playing on mouse/controller just doesnt live up at all. At first I was worried that the Recoil would just be like a controller rumble, but I'm glad to hear thats it heftier than that.

Gonna have to get this to add my the M.A.M.E. arcade I built for my kids... Light gun games are some of our favorites... We still pop in Gunblade N.Y./ L.A. Machine-gun on Wii, and the House of the Dead games once in a while...

Great episode as always , would be interesting to see how it behaves with a Mister console or arcade.. Hmm?

A nice option for modern screens, although the point blank section looked a bit laggy - i have the original arcade with regular light guns and it looked like a slow response to me in your clip

Absolutly not plug and play. Very difficult to setup. At least for me. Zero customer support. I recieved two recoil guns about 10 months ago and spent hours trying to get them to work. Never did. I decided to wait and see if the software was updated . I think it may be a bit easier now but I don't have the energy or time to see if things have changed for the better.

An ultra-short-throw projector would probably be your best bet for ease of mounting and space savings for the projection setup problem, plus minimal chance of people getting in front of the projection while playing!

Now I'll make a modular version, with a scope and rifle barrel and support for Silent Scope.

Silent Scope was position based, I think. Not a true light gun. I don't think it would work with MAME.

That would be hard I think, since Silent Scope's gun is not even a light gun IIRC. It's an analog gun with a tiny screen as a scope.

@@ZX3000GT1 Correct, silent scope is not a light gun. But seeing as this emulates a mouse, which provides high accuracy X and Y floating point input, this 'light gun' is much closer to what Silent Scope needs today Duck Hunt

Looks great. My only gripe is the white border, especially in a cab setup.

Just bought on your recommendation. I hesitated due to it being a crowd funded thing and crowd-funded hardware is extremely difficult to deliver, but if you say its good it will 100% be worth it I am sure :) 👍👍

Wish it could rock on the Pi! Can’t wait! Now I can finally wait to buy one! I’ve been DYING for a proper light gun for modern tech! :)

Had a light gun on the PS one it was awesome! I could have the experience again, even with more games but you have to have a credit card to buy the gun :(. May 2021 comes the next batch :).

This does definitely look like a decent product. Those set up issues will put off the casual gamer that wants to play Time Crisis on their Playstation though. Good job there are plenty of us that like to sit and tweak options all day though. Great video Neil.

best way i’ve found to ad weight to things is with alloy wheel balancing weights, the sticky ones :)

i remember in 2001 i bought vampire night for PS2 w/Guncon. It played great on my huge Sony crt tv, but i was very disappointed later when it did not work with LCD type tvs. And i understand why it doesnt work. So maybe this will be a solution down the road. I miss playing until my trigger finger just doesnt work anymore. Lol

I remember my finger would cramp up and my arm was sore at the arcade when I was playing a long time, good times.

I backed the project when you first featured it and had mine a fair while ago it worked absolutely brilliantly with my home made bar top arcade ..unfortunately due to a serious loss of income due the horrid corona virus I had to sell both on Ebay ...it was the only Sinden gun on eBay at the time ..If any of you were the buyer I hope you enjoyed it.....seems like my income is gonna take another knock at the end of the month ..redundancies coming.. :( so I'll not be making another arcade system or getting anther Sinden gun any time soon :( ... c'est la vie.

I think it might be cool if there was an option where you can buy it and it comes with a console, with pre loaded configuration and all the classic gun games built in. I would probably definitely buy one then.

Unfortunately, due to copyright laws and the like, this is very unlikely to ever be done legally.

Massive light gun game fan so this is very interesting 👍

It looks like a lot of fun. I don't think it would be replacing the arcade machine guns anytime soon due to their uniqueness but a nice home solution. Lethal Enforcers would look great on that projector and other American Laser Games releases such as The Last Bounty Hunter if you want a challenge (It's a pity American Laser Games aren't emulated yet in MAME and only simulated in Singe).

I love light guns! Have a PS2 and CRT TV just for that. This finally convinced me to drop the quite hefty £150 for a recoil version and shipping. Well, the pub money needs to go somewhere.... The complaint about the cable placement is pretty spot on though. And without having used it, I can already tell that I would prefer a GunCon2-style reload button to the pump-action.

On the strength of your review i've ordered myself the 2 player pack and holsters. :) Hopefully I'll be enjoying the following on my wall screen: PC version of Chaos Control (for the meme value). My 2 all time favourite PSX gun games Judge Dredd and Elemental Gearbolt.

Light gun games was the main reason I game on a crt. I’ll continue to do so until my equipment fails but it’s great to finally have a viable option for light gun games in an lcd/oled. I know arcade 1up are going to be using sinden light guns so this’ll be great for the home arcade scene.

I agree on both ends. Small company. R&d. But this is very niche. And well the amount of configuring in their app and mame/every emulator (teknoprrot) is just as much as dolphinbar, Wii mote, and a nice shell. I just can’t justify 600. When I have 2 awesome gun shells that have recoil for Wiimotes. At 300 for 2 guns. I would do it.

At last, we can finally play that Pest Control game for the Menacer again!

I'm about to order mine. You know that a wireless version will come at some point and that will be awesome!

One of my treasured gaming memories was playing Point Blank one christmas with my cousin on the PS1. We went down to the local video shop and rented a second gun so we could play proper two player as opposed to one unfortunate person having to make do playing with a controller. Fantastic fun that was. I'd love to play that game again properly. Neil, how did you do on the one shot, one leaf challenge?

I don't know about the UK, but the orange tips are required by law in the US. To be honest, it's a lot more likely that someone, especially a minor, with a fake gun would "accidentally" get shot here. It's happened before. This may be the one area the US has more restrictive "gun laws" than other countries. lol Actually, I suppose anyone can do what they want after purchasing, but no sales are allowed without it.

It's definitely in the rules here too. Toy guns have been sold with orange tips as long as I can remember - in fact I think now they even have to be entirely coloured some psychadelic colour so there's no possibility of mistaking one.

Imagine these things having analog sticks so you can play first and third person shooters and light gun games.

Niche products always carry a higher price than they should. I do have a recoil lightgun from the 90s and I don't recommend them. The recoil is so noisy unless your TV is on full blast it drowns out the game, plus over time the vibrations to your hands get real uncomfortable.

@@Roggor I agree, some rare devices like this, have their pwn price tag. About the recoil, I think it is a must have for me, because I used to play point blant, virtua cop etc (coin op) when I was young, and I loved it. I think it can be disabled in settings. I prefer to "bite the bullet" and buy the recoil version. The problem is that I would like to buy 2, but thats a big no no at that price...
