I just want to add onto you’re story, I started back in 2015 with my dad. My dad had pigeons when he was younger so it was easier for us to get into it. But part of the Beaty I find in the sport that once again I get to spend a lot of time with him ( my dad used to be my football trainer) and we both have the same goal to win. Plus racing birds gives me some type of relaxation, when you see them zoom by in the summer there is nothing more enjoyable

Hi Mate, Thanks for the content always enjoy watching your videos, I’ve recently started up myself, bought a couple stock pairs of white racing pigeons. I’ve bred and currently have 4 young ones which are flying very well slowly building a team up, not in a club or anything just doing it for fun and watching them fly is satisfying. So if you see a white team of racing pigeons flying around Nottingham there mine 😜

I think you hit the nail on the head with the fisherman & hunting type of people. Animals & the out doors is the attraction I myself hunt and fish and also keep British showracers & my dad races pigeons we both hunt and fish and if I'm honest it all has a connection to the outdoors. I think a big problem is now your not allowed to keep them on allotments anymore same as chickens etc, people don't have the room for them in there gardens & back yards.

Nah,kids nowadays are almost all into internet stuff. For alot of them, sadly, animals in general are zoo alike as in they're something you can see there but like no one they know has any of them, even usual chickens and so on. Sadly,my generation could be the very last to have at least the desire to raise/race pigeons. I'm an '84 dude so yeah, under my age I don't know anyone from my town or here in Germany where I live now, that would like to do something like this. Here at least, Germany, there is generally good wages so people could afford pretty much everything, but animals at home ..yea,not really. I find that sad, most of them like to have pristine lawns and some trees, and there they draw the line🙁 It's just sad really..

I like to see pigeons flying when they are released from the loft. Also how much it costs to race pigeons and keep them. A Lot of channels don't talk about the money it costs. Hope this helps. Benzing and electronic clocks needs to go! A smart phone, a pad, and chips should all u need. Most people have Bluetooth and wifi. The biggest investment is that clock. Turns a lot of people off .. not to mention the clocking turn around. A race should last 12 hours then u find out who wins ...just my opinion

I would love to do this hobby. The only connection I had to the sport was my grandad Ken who raced with his dad but he passed away last year at 93. He loved talking about it when I was young. Over the years I was persistent in my request for a loft in the garden but mum and dad did not move from the answer of NO. So it will have to wait until I move out or find some land I could use for a loft. I think there is definitely room for the sport to grow. But sadly from what I see on the forum’s it seems like the governing bodies who run the sport are stuck in the past.

But you’ve now got me interested in Racing (although we are in the process of selling our house so it maybe a while). My main question/request is do you have a video explaining the organisation of pigeon racing in the UK, the difference Unions federations clubs etc. How’s it work with rings that sort of thing. A man after my own heart. I admire your idea on attracting more fanciers into our wonderful sport. Myself I've been in the sport all my life as was my father and his father and my great grandfather. Myself on the same mission as you have just finished being involved with a mainstream pigeon documentary called HOME to try and promote our wonderful sport made by Nova Mundi films. The film is about people just as much as it is about pigeons. My thoughts for your project would be to dispell the myths about pigeon racing such as the costs which I believe is a modern day thinking misnomer with people thinking you have to have a loft bigger than the houses we used to live in. It's turned into from the perception of people interested in coming into the sport you have to have the latest all singing all dancing accessories to compete. A kind of keeping up with the Joneses or leaning to drive a race car when a mini would do the job. Buying super dopa racing pigeons when in reality it's the stockmanship that makes them perform. I could go on with food, supplements, medication etc. Paying more because there's a pretty picture of a pigeon on the packaging. I also think places like social media are a double edged sword and fanciers don’t help themselves using their male bravado talking as if they are down the pub. Anyway enough of my waffle. Your quest is a very honorable one of which I salute you. Should you need any help with it just give me a shout. Regards Dave

I hope its not a die'n sport, but seen sll the zombies on play station and X-box these days im not surprised if it is. It was allways a retired mans sport with non working men and men that where there own boss's and could train and look after there pigeons round there job. In ireland a new rule that i taught would never come out seemly has being out over 10 years, is that yiu need planning permission to build a loft. The biggest problem i see in pigeon racing and has allways being there its just got worse, is the cost, from food to rings to meds to race new trapping systems.............. That 2 me is the killer, but has to be done if you want to win or get in the top 10 on a weekly basis, and this is what maybe off putting is what it costs compaired to prize money, so most lads get there wins and concentrate on selling youngbirds year in and out, and some have clearance sales and leave the sport altogether. Time shall how what happens, please god its not a die'n sport

Some good points there. Especially planning permission. I think the prizes need to be greater in the nationals and international racing, but not from pools or entry fees because the majority will always lose out. There's a lot more that stakeholder companies that benefit from the success of the sport could be doing I.e stumping up prize money. Unfortunately there's little appetite for them to do that unless they see a return. That return will be in the form of new fanciers buying their products. Which brings us back to the point: How do we get more people taking part? I'm trying to do my bit by promoting the sport as best I can, and will continue to do that. But I'd like to see a more concerted effort from the aforementioned too. Believe it or not I'm actually quite optimistic about the future of the sport!
