Yes it is extremely frustrating, I just think that Gaijin can do much more with their game and become one of the greatest sort of mil-sim games of all time simply because of just the amount of systems they have but it's bug ridden and stale just like Ash said.

Yeah that's what made it so hated in combat flight simmer circles. When it came out it promised to be that great game, one that could do the holy grail of a proper combined arms sim on air, sea and land. One that we could play with our non simmer friends, so that they might one day join us. And we invited them to come join us. Only to find it a broken bug-riddled mess, with a dev whose CMs rather spend time fighting with us than accepting our help. Telling us straight up that we in FRB/SB didn't matter as we were to few to matter to the company. And that we should focus on getting more people into the game, so that we might matter, instead of focusing on nudging gaijin towards making it a game that we could recommend to our friends first. The idiots snubbed one of the most passionate and helpful communities around, because we dared disagree with them.

I've taken a couple prolonged breaks from this game since I first started playing in 2013. I come back here and there but I'm happy that I haven't truly been hooked in ages. I mostly just tune in and play a couple sim matches and go play a different game again. The thing I miss the most was the old game modes that they offered for sim AND rb (historical those days) were the historical events. You'd see in the events tab the battle of midway or battle of britian and everyone would be limited to certain planes even if it was at a huge disadvantage to one team. It was the best.

The 'Legend of Victory' event just announced is a 35 000 point event, over SIX STAGES for a 'reward' of a copy pasted Yak3 with a single 20mm cannon. That's a legit 40 HOUR grind for a plane that is WORSE than its copied variant. Gaijin have lost the plot. I'm glad to see that you've grown out of the game, honestly. I also did grow out of the game but not by stop playing it, but rather prioritizing work, social life and such over the game - until some years ago when I was a teenager, I was so addicted to the game that I'd genuinely thought of waking up around 5 a.m., play until 6 a.m. and then go to school at 7 a.m. Was I forced to do so? Yeah! But thank god I was, honestly. This week I did play WT for more hours a day than I'd usually play, since my uni is on strike, but I did take this free time to actually start adjusting my virtual game life to my real life needs. I've learned how to do my chores FIRST and THEN play games as a resting time, which was quite hard for me to do, honestly (I'd often clean the house after 1 a.m. because I'd play the game for the entire day before doing my needs). With each step, we learn how to improve ourselves and grow out of bad habits, and sometimes that means to stop doing something that you never though you would.

The best thing about warthunder is it’s technical to the point that there is genuine plausibility in what is happening, but it’s not overly realistic beyond casual play like DCS (also DCS planes cost money). That’s RB alone, if you value the arcadey stuff more you got AB, if you want realistic style controls, SB is the mode you want.

Was just thinking about re-installing the game the other day. I am glad this video was recommended to me. Every single point you brought up drove me away from the game many times over the years. It's both sad and relieving to hear I am not alone, yet that nothing has changed in over 2 years. The part about the game not having a "soul" anymore kept getting more and more true with every update, I felt. Every time they did a short term event that could have been an interesting permanent game mode if refined, they immediately removed never to hear of it again. Ground sim which was my favourite game mode at one point, last I played it, became an absolute joke at literally every tier with copy-pasted vehicles on both teams, same ridiculous AB and small RB maps being pushed, it became the exact same team deathmatch just this time without parts of the HUD. To pour salt further in the wound - SB at the time didn't even count for Battlepass progression, so screw all the players who actually were trying to enjoy the game I guess. War Thunder had MANY problems more than 7 years ago. But despite its problems, it had character, it had a sense of identity. The quote I wrote on my Steam review many years ago still seems to ring true "War Thunder is not a good game. It is a meticulously created interactive Wikipedia with parts of the pages behind a paywall".

When I first discovered WT so many years ago around 2015 or so, I was almost immediately hooked and ended up playing a bit under 200 hours in it within the first year after discovering the game. I got to BR4-5 more or less, and then realized that unlocking new planes was all of a sudden taking a LOT longer. I had never spent a single penny on the game, and ended up deciding that I wasn't going to due to the sheer cost that I simply was not willing to dish out. I took a break from the game that lasted over a year. I came back, and things had only gotten worse. I knew it was more than possible to spend endless hours just grinding toward the next plane, because that's exactly what I did. Just 2 more games and I'll be that much closer, just one more game. And I realized I wasn't even enjoying the game, I was just playing it to get the next plane. And since then, I just decided I was going to play the game when I wanted to hop on and actually enjoy the game. I now I have 260 hours in the game, that is, over the last like 8-9 years, I have put around 60 hours into the game, and I am completely content with that. I never feel the weight of the grind. When I unlock a new plane, it's practically a surprise. I enjoy every second I play the game, and was only able to do that by letting go and really taking a step back and away from the grind as a primary objective. The reason I am unwilling to pay them a cent is because if the planes were really what I wanted, I could just spend a few hundred bucks and buy someone else's account with modern planes and premium vehicles unlocked. And it would be CHEAPER by thousands of dollars from what I can tell than spending the money to get a premium account and grinding out the planes myself, even IF I had the time. Some people in WT, like yourself, have put thousands upon thousands of hours into the game, and the stuff I hear from most people with that many hours is that really, they just don't even really enjoy simply playing the game anymore, and have spent so much money over the years it makes their eyes water. There's nothing wrong with spending the money if that's what you want to spend it on, but nobody should play a game they don't actively enjoy playing. Gaijin has locked in on that dopamine hit and brain chemistry to extract money from its players, and I for one will not give money to a company like that that is by nature exploitative and only out to make money off of you. It's a losing business strategy in the long run, and I expect the cash cows will stop printing them money at some point after they cross a certain threshold or boundary.

I do fear for the future of War Thunder, as the game itself has so much potential but the devs just don't really seem to care about the game but rather the profits... I also do agree to the part of people losing interest in propeller driven aircraft, I myself am only interested in jet aircraft and generally play better with them and enjoy using them more simply because I grew up with them and just like them more I really should have watched the entire video before commenting, I do wish you the best Ash and I completely understand your frustrations with the game and how life can be sometimes. I wish you the best and I really enjoyed the content you made.

Around a year ago I quit for good, after around 8 years (on and off) I used to take "sanity breaks" more and more often, for longer and longer periods. I took one break, and when I returned I just didn't enjoy it at all, there was nothing there, so I uninstalled right there and then, about a year ago. I too suffer heavily from chronic, treatment resistant depression (no medication or procedures has worked, even ECT does nothing... even tried microdosing magic mushies) Been this way for decades. Look after yourself, put yourself first and I hope for all the best for you.

They have done well last year, this year is looking to be the same as the last, or at least I hope they do this.

For 9 years I’ve played this game. I was there when the only nations to choose from in ground were Russia and Germany. The game made amazing developments over its life, but over the last 5 months it’s just been a chore to play. It’s the same thing over and over again but now it’s frustrating to play when everything is compressed. Me just wanting to play 9.3 is awful as it’s an up tier 9/10 times. Jet combat is horrendous for not only compression but also 16v16 matches. This game turned from a slow paced thinking game to call of duty with tanks.

Been playing this since 2015 and seen the changes its gone through. Overall AIR rb lost luster around 2019 for me. It stagnated horribly and compression didnt follow capabilities. The constant changes to weapons damage made it unfun to keep track of what was meta, and instead of focusing on introducing multiple aircraft or tanks at similar capabilities, they add new flavors of the month to drive premium sales for that nation. We complained about mixed battles endlessly back in the day and its just become the norm. Also I've just grown beyond the fixation, I have my career, and other passions.

🔴I've been playing WT since 2015. Nothing bothers me more than wanting to play WWII tank battles, only to end up facing more modern tanks, not in the same era. And about 95% of the time it's an up-tier. I don't understand how those players I'm up-tiered against get the down-tiers to end up playing against me. :/ The battle modes are so stale. The map designs are colorless, depressing, boring, unrealistic, and don't even make sense. You have rivers and roads starting and ending in nonsensical places, one side of a map having a huge advantage over the other, etc. It would be nice to CAPTURE something important, like a bridge, a village, an airstrip, something sensical. But no, they keep adding features that rob my old computer of FPS and tanks that I have no interest in playing. Then they covered every map in Vaseline so you can't even climb out of some of the ditches, and block the edges of the maps so that you are forced to play in this very boring, restricted space with no cool locations (like there used to be, man you could climb mountains!). Sure, some of those places had an advantage, but players were smart enough to take you out, even if someone had to J-out and bomb you in a plane. And that's another thing, I love playing CAS but come on Gaijin, I shouldn't be able to get into a plane in under 2 minutes, then rearm my plane in 5 (rearming should take like 1+ mins). Games are too short to really get into the battle. 10-12 minutes on avg. is just too short, IMO. I think it's pretty clear that the devs never play the game. I worked for a gaming company for over 10 years and we played our games with the players. Not only because we wanted first-hand feedback and community input, but because we ourselves were gamers. Anyway, sorry for the winded rant. This game used to be a fun WWII tank game, but I rarely play it now, perhaps once or twice a week I'll squad up with my son. It's sad, to be honest because I miss the good old days and the potential of what I "thought" the game would become, instead of the nightmare it now is. 😞

I'm someone who only enjoys simulator mode, but your speak facts, they are ignoring the sim community, I mostly make content about df's clips, but I'm gonna move over to semi educational gameplay. Either way, the fact of the matter is, Sim has a lot of issue, that we have been begging to be fixed, and I fear this video will be ignored by them. I don't have the money nor the time to get DCS, so War thunder is all I got and so many others too. I've even started slowing moving away from War thunder, and I don't want to. They are missing the mark. PS I got an idea for a market place so that console could aslo enjoy skins and decals, without having to gamble insane amounts of money for just for that one skin they actually want. Here is the market place idea, maybe you could let me improve this, and possibly suggest it to then one day. -- InGame Market Place -- The way this IN GAME market place would work, is you would by GE, so Sony still gets the cut, you use GE or SL you earned for things, so say for example a skin on the gaijin market place worth 2 gaijin coin (2 bucks) would be worth 2 bucks worth of GE, in this market, there would be a minimum amount, and maximum amount so they dont exploit it for each skin and decal. This removes the market place, but for pc it just gets moved to the in game place, and console gets access to it.

I am also a ww2 player and love the older tanks and planes and the skill and gameplay styles associated with the older vehicles. Now it just feels like you are going from one grind event to the next grind event, and if you want to complete anything you can't have a life outside of warthunder or you have to have the money to speed things along. I've been playing since very late 2013, and yeah, I feel you on the burnout. I came because I love/loved WW2 stuff and all the fun things that came with that. As I play in recent years, I find much less fun being had in mid-late WW2. This constant focus on shoveling in more and more modern things, constantly screws WW2 further and further into obscurity. We go from back in the day with B-25's frontline bombing to Skyraiders from the 60s going in 1940s tech battles, and just dominating with ease because modern CAS capabilities. That or this incessant rationale that certain ammo types and vehicles belong down below. ATGMs and HEATFS fighting against tanks from the early to mid 40s is constantly a burn to me. While I don't inherently rage, I do sigh as I remember a better time with WT, where it was just WW2 vehicles fighting other ones. It was all about skill and familiarity. Using armor against adjacent/ or counteracting vehicle types. It frustrates me when I know these vehicles are made to counter specific types of munitions n such and then they get pummeled into the ground because a vehicle/round from a decade ahead is able to abuse my vehicles with relative ease. No matter what you do, you cannot avoid the modern fixation by Gaijin. It creeps into places it does not belong and you're helpless to do anything against them. I remember when the Maus, and IS-4M were the top of the food chain back in the day. Late heavies fighting each other, at most. Not Marders, BMPs, or PT-76's with their HEATFS or ATGMs.. It's also so tiresome and rather saddening. I don't even know why I play anymore either. My main motivator, as an older player, is to follow grind events as they come, since they give me an objective to just do. That or squash out other vehicles in my tree that I may have not gotten yet or have been added.
