Y'all are bringing back memories when 11 year old me was standing in a field with my dad and one of his brothers. They were shooting clays, with a 12 bore. If memory serves it was a deer gun so there wasn''t a choke on it. I don't think I ever got the hang of throwing with the Winchester 'billy club' hand trap, fortunately my dad had borrowed a tripod base thrower which I was able to use. It was nearly 20 years before my next foray in to Sporting Clays. A friend of mine took me out to a trap range where I think I shot about 2 boxes of his hand loaded shells, ostensibly to improve my pistol shooting. It must have worked as I went from qualifying for the Navy Pistol Marksman ribbon to Sharpshooter. (side note: if I remember correctly the M1911A1 I used for that was a WWII vintage Ithaca. For me the only thing better would have been a Smith Corona.)
More content! More Othias! More Mae! Kevin can stay too...
"... we see that they would use 8 year olds to fire this thing. Would you let your children use it? " .... "NO way! I only have 3 kids - in them old days, they had like 12 - missing a few of them would not be such a big problem back then..." That was funny. :)

This is actually super fascinating. I never knew these things existed. I ought to try and find one of these up in Canada. Also that’s what she said.
6:48 she’s going for speeeeeeed! In all seriousness I really like this and hope you do more, some shorter and easier to consume (and produce for you by far) content is a great change of pace. Not to mention you guys have such a genuine kinship with Kevin that one can’t help but enjoy it!
"you can't eat without your hands" good god lmao
This seems almost more dangerous than a verterlli in carcano food
This amount of fun for only 4 dollars and risk of serious personal injury? And any of my 14 children except one week old Eustace can use it?! I’m sold!
It's happened... I'm rewatching a handtrap episode and not a Primer! Also I did like Kevin's "joke", but moreso in that we used to have an old lazyboy that made that exact noise whenever one got out of it or pulled on the foot-rest lever, and I remember it fondly from my childhood.
Love the handheld horizontal trebuchet
It's a bit of an adjustment at first seeing you guys do a pretty standard KZread sort of production value, but once I got past that hump it was a blast watching this. You've all got great chemistry, the material is interesting, and even while goofing around having fun you kept the pace up and avoided the drag this sort of on-the-range video often falls into. Really great work; I'm looking forward to seeing more of this series.

This is why i love this channel and also why it takes them forever to finish a series. They set out to document shotguns but get side tracked documenting an hand traps. An item no one thought to document before.
wait, St. Etienne made one of these? surprised Ian never covered it then
I saw the thumbnail and thought:”What kind of warcrime machine is this?!” :D
I worked at a trap and skeet club as a kid in the 80's. It's amazing how similar the powered throwers were to that hand thrower. I'm surprised I didn't lose any fingers at that job.
I haven’t shot hand thrown clays in years, but this was very entertaining and hilarious at the same time. I still have an old plastic hand thrower put away. I may have to get it out over the holidays and try it again ( with my daughter). Nice new series. Thanks, guys. BTW, I ordered a couple new t-shirts from your new campaign. Yours is the only channel I regularly support as I enjoy it so much and appreciate all the hard work you put into the content.
I NEEEEEEDDDD a tshirt that says "you can't eat without your hands." With a picture of this below it....
My grandfather worked for Dupont in their Nuclear division out at SRS(Savannah River Site) for almost 40 years, and I never knew Dupont produced, and sold these, very interesting. 👍👍
A Handheld "YEET" device.
This makes trapshooting more challenging because it throws way less consistently than modern throwers... you can almost aim the shotgun in the same exact point in the sky and the clays will travel across the same point every time with static electronic triggering throwers, these hand traps make you work for it
I'd never thought about what kinds of contraptions you'd use to launch traps - this was neat!
Super excited about this and the shotgun series. I think they will suit the channel really well. Especially with your aesthetic.
I'm glad you guys enjoy what you do. I imagine that the Primer series can become a grind. Even range day becomes a chore when you have bad weather, uncooperative guns, camera issues and a deadline.

Has me thinking that whoever designed it brought it to a shoot with the right coworkers and they all decided that the thing made of random scraps around the factory might be worth trying to sell. Just looking at it I know I could make something similar by spending ~$100 at the local hardware store and a weekend of tinkering.
Well, I know almost nothing about trap shooting or shotguns in general, but even three minutes in, I'm learning interesting things with what you said about DuPont pushing trap since it burned more powder.
Both the range and the trajectory reminds me of the middle school trading cards duels ( how-far-can-you-throw-them, winner gets the opponent's card). Guess boys don't change that much.

It was a lot of fun watching the three of you smack talk each other while playing with an extremely dangerous toy. Would love to see more videos like this once in a while!
That early 1900 clay thrower was before they came up with all this, we got to make everything perfectly safe, like the new playgrounds, they took away all the cool stuff. Back in the '60s, there was a clay hand thrower with a wooden handle, the clay holder had a shorter spring that you cocked. You would use a side throw and flick your wrist. We went threw a lot of clay birds and shells.

It's a spring powered Atlatl. Cool! It shows that old ways can be improved with Rube Goldberg springs and bailing wire. Atlatl was the first arm extension device for hand thrown spears that ultimately led to bows. In this case, I think the Atlatl is safer. That spring looks more like a hand trap, than a hand trap.
