"It's A Roman!" - When The First Good Metal Detecting Find Is Ancient!

Ойын-сауық

The relic hunt started already on my way, with an old iron object sticking out of the ground! The "eyeball find" was located in the middle of a hiking trail, with thousands of people walking over it for years. How could nobody see and investigate this old object, is simply beyond me. At least everyone polished the surface nicely with their shoes.
The hunt itself was fast paced and the steep terrain demanded some acrobatic skills. Although the beginning wasn't spectacular, with a few pieces of trash, the very first good find came as a huge surprise. "It's a Roman!"... that's right, it was a small Roman coin basically on the surface of the slope.
This shows that in certain situations it is important not to ignore surface finds. Back in the day, when I made this hunt I used my "63 ground balance" setting on my XP Deus, which had the same tone for all good and "bad" metallic materials. On top of that I was using a very low "DISC" value of maybe "3"?
I was able to find other interesting relics after the coin. Once again "1700's people" were saving the day with some tiny buttons and a thimble. There were also two more highlights in form of a ring and a Roman (or medieval) bronze ring.
All in all it was an action packed hunt, carefully watched by my friend the grasshopper, who was sitting on my backpack and didn't want to leave.
I hope you had fun too! Thanks for watching!

Very cool video. I used to watch all your videos and comment on them. I have not been able to do so in quite awhile. My brother and I were in a very bad car accident. We were hit by a drunk driver head on. My brother died and I was extremely injured. Been in and out of the hospital having alot of surgeries. This is the 1st video I have gotten to watch in along time. So I have alot of catching up to do. Just wanted to say I just got my first detector not to long ago and have been using my electric wheelchair to go out and do some hunting. I don't have a pin pointer yet but hope to get one soon. I have learned alot from your videos. I have actually found quite alot of stuff all tho my detector is not a very expensive one. So keep up the good work you have helped me learn alot of stuff even know you don't talk in your videos. Which is probably better for me learning anyway.👍

I'm sonsorry to hear about your tragic accident and the loss of your brother. I have lost 2 siblings in the past 2 years ans also find watching these videos can help you to distance from your reality even for a short moment.

A fascinating hunt, 24!! Anytime you can find Roman coins, is beyond belief for me!! I found an old coin today, too. But doesn't come close to yours. 1919 Denver mint Mercury dime!!

The thing on the other side of the roman coin is fire altar. Mostly it is displayed on posthumous coins, with CONSECRATIO written above the altar. So it might be a "consecration" coin, probably some antoninianus. Maybe Claudius II, you'll have to investigate a bit. A really nice find indeed!

dont know if your first item is a "trigger guard". It may be a hook with a spiked end for driving into a tree or wood/rock to hang something on. The piece above the hook part looks like it was made to hit it with a hammer or something to drive it in place. Seen similar items used in mines to hang lanterns/candles

Sorry, the shoe polished item may only be less than 100 years old! It's a gadget for fixing drainpipes &/or, downpipes on houses!

that "roman coin" the symbol on it looks Templar... they find it in a lot of Templar strongholds, churches and caves... even on Oak Island in Nova Scotia. I would do a little more research to confirm its origin maybe take it to a ancient coin expert. Id love to know what you find out if you do.
