It's a Miracle! Blasphemi is Fixed So of Course We Did Massive Burnouts.
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Welcome, Friends, to Episode 277 of Mike Finnegan's Garage. I'm excited about this one because as you know, a week ago, my transmission exploded on the starting line of Alabama International Dragway. Well, I'm happy to report that thanks to GForce Racing Transmissions and Tick Performance, the transmission is fixed and we are ready to test the car again. It wasn't easy to make happen, since I had to leave town to film an episode of Roadkill right after that fateful day when Blasphemi grenaded the gearbox. But thanks to my friends, the car was transported from Alabama to North Carolina where Team Tick performed a miracle using new parts provided by GForce. I hope you enjoy the video and burnouts and please check out the following page to get some excellent discounts on parts for your project:

and if you'd like to continue supporting the channel and Blasphemi then please visit my website and grab a new FSM Precision Research & Destruction shirt.
Thanks!

I'm really impressed with the new owner of Tick Performance he's really getting their name out to the entire racing community in just a short time!
Dude just the amount of info in this video is unreal. It's awesome to see people who know everything about their jobs.

I agree, that trans builder knows a thing or two!
Matt is plethora of fantastic knowledge. I'd love to have him as a part of my support team. Good stuff ya'll!!!
I started life going every weekend to a drag race in the early 70’s. Dad raced a 55 Chevy two door post car with a full cage. A Built 327 with a Muncie M-22 transmission with a 5:13 gear with a straight axle front end. We pulled the 55 race car with a 55 Nomad on a light weight 2 rail trailer. I slept on the front bench seat and mom and dad slept in the back of the Nomad. We traveled 4-5 states, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia. Gasser class was just a normal class in the 70’s. Dad kept blowing up the Muncie transmission. In 1970 Lenco came out with a transmission that was supposed to be good to 800hp then. We went home to the farm after dad broke the transmission at the 74 nationals in Indy. We sold a couple of moms high dollar barrel racing horses so dad could buy a new Lenco transmission. He never broke another trans after this. I know these new TKO Tremec transmissions can handle big horsepower and abuse today. But back in the day guys was using stock GM Muncie’s. M-21 or the M-22 Rock Crusher. Side note; I still use a light weight two rail trailer to this day to haul cars. It works like a lift at the track if you need to change a transmission or clutch. I can pull it with a 1/2 ton truck with a shell or station wagon. I still sleep in the bed of the truck on a cot. I laugh when I see guys pull in with Toterhomes or Diesel pushers pulling huge stacker trailers. They are so far away from where how grassroots racing started. Are those guys more comfortable in their air conditioned rigs? Sure, but I can spend my money on the race car. 🇺🇸🦅🏁
Tick performance is first class
Matt is just way, way beyond simple complete competence! Great to see a young guy so thoroughly in command of what he does!
That Bangshift Billy thing is awesome! Having a controlled and repeatable way to slip your diaphragm clutch is inreal!
This is a good demonstration of torque, inertia, friction and torsional strength. When you dump the clutch, and the tires are glued to the ground, you will get clutch slippage, or something else will give. You simply found the weakest part. Tire slippage would be the easiest solution!

And that was not going to happen on a cold radial prepped track surface. Mike found out the hard way that bias ply slicks and a radial prep surface don’t get along well together.

I use to live in Mount Airy back in the early 80s, it's amazing how much that place has changed and grown. I love watching your channel and how much you learn after each failure. Never give up. Good luck on Wednesday. Thanks Mike.
Really cool to see Bill Armstrong at the end, one of my favorite drag and drivers. Great video, keep up the good work.

Really enjoyed watching this process. Thanks for being willing to share it with us!

Thank you Joe , since Mike is floating somewhere you did a super transformational video at the shop ! lamo !
I love that killer launch system from Billy ! So cool 😎 seen him and my favorite Canadian Pontiac run here in Ennis TX so cool !
Blasphemi is now become a instrument of testing high performance parts and will always find their weakness! I think these companies should sponsor fsm just for the " R&D" work Mike is doing! keep up the good work Mr. Finnegan!
My god, the digital Bluetooth throw out bearing is jaw-dropping killer awesome!!!
Love listening to Joe explain what going on and how to fix.
Wow, the way it exploded, how that energy all let go, I honestly expected more broken parts than that, it really is amazing how strong T56s are. Excited to see how it goes with the BSB clutch controller - really looking forward to seeing a lot less of Blasphemi's trans now! These clutch controllers have been SUCH a game changer for stick shift racing. There's both lower feature budget options for mechanical clutch setups and there's up to the BSB here with all the bells & whistles for hydro clutches and a few options inbetween, checkem' out if you're in to stick racing.
Great video with lots of tech tips and starring " Blasphemi " ! Thanks Mike , and good luck with the clutch and transmission going forward.
This is absolutely thr best transmission information video I have ever seen
I haven’t had a chance to watch for a few months, and I’m glad to see that Finnigan found himself a stunt double, the show should get interesting now.
Joe is not slow. Great episode cool to see how it's done. Great job Joe!
Building a high end hot rod is so much more complicated today than it was back in 1970!
That clutch release controller looks like the perfect cheat code for a manual transmission. The ability to hold it on the take up point and set a release point that can be controlled by the ecu be it time, rpm, speed or even wheel slip measured by the ECU has just taken all the talent out of the art of consistent reliable launches or even clutched shifts. You should then be able to downsize the gear box I would think or even go back to clutch shifting at speed if you are having wheel slip problems whilst rolling. Racing down shifts could also be improved to prevent wheel skid and improve stability. Implemented properly you could go back to the old school clutched autos and do away with the torque converters, A very nice simple device that should make a huge difference to anyone who uses a manual transmission. It deserves an award.
Man what a bad ass learning video thanks Mike can’t wait to see the car back at the track.
Aaron suggested a “Dead Hook” I agree,in the other episode Mike said he lowed the launch rpm that and the supper stick track killed the transmission.
Thanks Joe, really good job showing us what happened to the trans. Taking over from Mike for an episode can't be easy.
I've been following the drag and drives for years (love the stick shift class) and it was cool watching the progression of Bill's clutch control system 👍
Way to go guys, thank you Mike, maybe you won't get shafted at the next, ... Rock on Blasphemi 😊😎
23 just in my 69 Camaro and that is finally going to be the bomb without blowing up. My trans guy said I was one in a million!!!!! Glad and really good to meet you brother Mike.
Bangshift Billy's a damned genius!
Thank you for an awesome video. I'm definitely going to give the Bang Shift Billy setup a try

Best tech video on the channel for a long time! Loved how they stood by their product and fixed it 💪
Excellent trick with the bridgeport
Been a long road I am glad you are taking the time to address the issues in a timely manor instead of last minute I cannot wait to see that monster out drag everyone. That being said I am glad Finn has a new crew Joe is helping out quite a bit my hats off to the man.
We like the cars, the cars that go BOOM
I see you took my advise.. Matt and the guys at Tick are top notch..I make their boxes for their products plus I use all their products in my hot rod builds also. Matt and Eli your welcome.
transmissions are one of the few pieces of voodoo magic that breaks my brain, this video helps understand the voodoo
Fascinating stuff. Thanks for breaking (though sorry it happened) so we could learn about all of this stuff. Hopefully the learning means no breakage next time. And the sound of the burnout at the end was music to the ears - love the sound of a hemi.
I had know idea that there was delay setup for a clutch , I've exploded many manual trans. Great video and lots of good information.
The opener though! Wow 😮

Having the solution mounted but not used… is sort of a blessing and actually fixing it properly.
Didn't realise how finnicky transmissions are. Hats off to trans mechanics.

That’s an awesome idea with the bolt direction.
Great episode i learned a lot.
Glad to see it back together!! Hopefully we'll see it soon at a drag strip and see some low 8's
That guy from tick gives me huge young scott Taylor vibes
I'm here because the third gen in the background at the garage burn out👍
impressive talent and skills .
So glad to see you adding the clutch slipper mechanism! When you broke the tranny I thought right away it was because the track was prepped super sticky for those high powered radial cars. Worse yet the surface was cold making it even tighter. As you pointed out your clutch is designed to slip so the drivetrain absorbed all the shock when neither the clutch nor the slicks could slip. I’m guessing that had something not broken your front tires would have been pointed moonward! That slipper device should make the car more consistent on questionable drag and drive surfaces and also be way easier on the drivetrain components. Bill is clearly a very smart guy to have come up with this. And blue tooth compatible? 👍
Nice tucked ears old man. Hahahaha flash back to 2006
It blows my mind how quickly transmission guys work.

I've got mixed emotions on the clutch damper. On one hand, I think new technology is great! On the other hand, I still like the way it was in the old days where you just showed up in your ride and raced.

One possible cause for breaking the tailshaft is mounting the trans solid,(with no rubber bushings). If you mount the trans solid ,any twist in the frame will snap the tailshaft.........
