My personal opinion: kids learn to make sounds, then speak, and sometime later they learn music. Angelina learned it all at the same time! For her, singing is another language.

I agree with everything you are saying. Her runs are clean. Her confidence is high. This is a 12 year old with a large crowd in front of her, and a full military band behind her... and she is able to stand up there and deliver this incredible vocal so effortlessly that it seems as if it is as easy, as natural, and (in her own words) "as important as breathing" for her. It never seems like she is even trying. You mentioned the woman's face as she watched her. I have watched this many times, so I have taken note of all their faces. Everyone from the pianist to the conductor is in awe of the talent in front of them. You still have a lot to see. Whatever recommendation you get, do that one. Their all gold ;)

I love the power in her voice,

Her cadence, her sense of times are just out of this world fo a twelve year old. Few vocalist have such an innate sense of time in live performances. She seems so relax and effortless on stage like an old pro.

You're right: it was NOT clarinets in the original, it was violins. But this is a military band, not an orchestra - so, as usual, the clarinets are playing the violin introduction in this transcription. Good ears!

True, yes, it was NOT clarinets. The 1st 5 notes was the brass, where the trumpets 🎺 take center stage, so to speak. Then, yes, the strings, mainly violins 🎻 , come in and “take over”. Then the brass and woodwinds together, sticatto, with the strings (violins mostly) over top. All done with percussion 🥁, of course. But no need to get technical. Just sit back, chill, and be transported somewhere else, with AJ at the wheel. 😎✌🏼❤️🤘🏼🤙🏼😷

Twelve years old! Not the best audio but we are lucky to have this recorded from the audience by a fan, I believe with a camcorder. Professional recording equipment was not permitted. Professional audio of this concert can be had by purchasing the CD "It's Magic", a collaboration of AJ with the orchestra.

Check out the conductor’s behavior when Angelina goes on her sustained high run toward the end of the song. He looks toward Angelina with an amazed smile of respect and admiration on his face. I’ve learned not to overanalyze the nuances of Angelina’s performances. The fact of the matter is, you don’t just listen to Angelina. You experience her. She is a uniquely gifted force of nature. There is no other like her. Angelina is in her own lane. Once her family decides that Angelina is ready to be unleashed on the world stage her extraordinary brilliance is going to hit the music industry like a super nova. She is going to shake the music industry to it’s core. There are a great many talented singers out there, but there is no other like Angelina.

The performer's ease puts the listener at ease.

The reason Angie is so special is not because she can just sing well. There are literally thousands of young singers that sing incredibly well. The trouble is, is that the overwhelming majority of them have no style that is unique to them. They are simply parrots of other vocalists. Over time some may develop a unique style. They’ll need to in order to survive. Angie is, and was, unique in every aspect of vocal artistry, and a master of it. I was Angie's current age in 1957, and I am well familiar with the artists she has covered from that era forward, and with her originals included, she has rated equal billing with them since age 7 IMO.

It's a mans world, Angelina Jordan, twelve years old, standing in front of a full military orchestra. Filmed from the middle of the audience, and still her voice cuts thru clear as a bell, captivating all who listen to this performance. I wouldn't be at all surprised if James Brown himself would have been proud to stand next to this little girl on that stage... And wouldn't AJ and James standing next to each other at that mic, trading riffs and runs, been an absolute sight to behold... I liked your reaction, thank you MrLboyd. As for which song to do next, well how about "What a difference a day makes", "Summertime","Unchained melody", or "Fly me to the moon". It's AJ, you can't go wrong...

Brother, the reason that the musical arrangement sounds different from the original is simply because this is an Angelina's arrangement. She has always been in charge of the arrangement, always!

Have you seen “What A Difference A Day Makes” in 2014-she would be 8 years old-in Norway. The flowers in the hair is a Norway thing as is the little curtsy she often gives at the end of her performance.

Her runs are like beautiful waterfalls. ❤️

My absolute favorite Angelina song.. above all others. It is astounding, as she is astounding. What a gift she has, and she owns that stage... not with arrogance, but with casual sophistication... and how old is she?? 12?? She knows her stuff. He tone, pace, style exudes confidence and clearly she knows what she is doing!

She is wonderful. I hope with the new recording contract she stays jazz oriented and no pop crap. Please, please, please listen to her trying out her new mic singing "I'd Rather Go Blind". It is my favorite clip.

I think you would love her first time in the studio at age 6 “I who have nothing” she gets so excited that she can be there to sing in the studio. I really like the way you break it down and deconstructed and take the time to identify the instruments. Great job!

Angelina is just unbelievable as she has so much brilliant talent. She sings with total clarity and is always in control of the notes. Angelina just loves to sing and that is why she is so brilliant and confident. An absolute pleasure to listen to and her commitment and dedication are out of this world. Yet another great Angelina reaction, Sir! And you have oh, so many more ahead of you. Toward the end, you answered your own earlier question about clarinets. Music, of course, consists of melodies, harmonies, chords, rhythms, etc. Part of its beauty is that all of those elements can be arranged in different ways to be performed by musicians (vocalists, bands, orchestra, ensembles, soloists with single or no accompaniment, etc.). This version of "It's A Man's World" was arranged for the instrumentation of this concert band, just as James Brown's version was arranged for the instrumentation of his band. Same song, different instrumentation and, with both James and Angelina, phenomenal performances! Regarding Angelina's "runs": I was a music educator and jazz musician for over 40 years (now retired). Her ability to ornament the songs she sings is astounding. There are things she does that are reminiscent of the way John Coltrane or Clifford Brown would play them. Much of that can be attributed to the fact that she grew up from birth listening to jazz. She is like Ella Fitzgerald in the sense that her improvisation is musically perfect. Just like Ella, Angelina sings runs like a jazz instrumentalist plays "licks", moving around notes in the melody and staying within the chord progressions of the song. The runs of most singers today are all over the place. They do "vocal gymnastics" with no concept of musicality. In all of my years teaching music, I had 2-3 students who I would call prodigies, but nothing even close to Angelina. She is a once--in-a-lifetime artist and we are so lucky that she came along during our lifetimes! BTW, are or were you a radio or voice-over announcer? If not, you should be. Your voice is spectacular!

Absolutely Angelina is such a huge gift to all her gift is beyond words. I've read so may different comments on her gift My favorite is from Alan Papier who's channel is all Angelina " she could melt butter on an iceberg" sound strange to say Angelina's history but he has it on his page. Yes you do have a great voice!

"Million Years Ago" (Adele cover) ;-) "Million Miles" is Original, half a year old. About her Grandfather, who passed away and dedicated to all the people, who have lost a loved one.

Re the clarinets & clarinet: AJ arranges all the songs she chooses to sing. She also writes the music for EACH instrument whether band or orchestra. Just your average perfectionist genius. 😉She is a gift.

Dumbfounded after 3 songs, only 130 more to go, she's one in seven billion. Her "STAY" cover of Rhianna is absolutely astounding......

the band is Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces, they have made a CD together called It's magic

It is quite a recognition to be invited to sing on this album when she was 11yo, released at 12yo, for this bands 200 years aniversery CD. And even the conductor was taken by surprise when she took it up a notch or ten.. They had only worked indoors earlier, and also the track on the CD is much different.

Her timing is exquisite. She knows exactly when to do a little ritardando without overdoing it. Same with that tiny tailing vibrato. Everything is placed with intention to convey emotion. I hope I live to see and hear what she becomes in a decade or two
