if he was mixed in with a hundred other identical cockatoo's....you could easily spot him just by his gallop , he's the only cockatoo i've ever seen run like that. he's got character

I think so too....I have always had a fear of any type of bird ( my mom was afraid...no terrified of birds and she passed this on to us.) but I love Gotcha ! I even would love to learn how to care for Gotcha and would 'babysit" him if I lived near him ( wherever they live ! ) I think all the animals that Gotcha's mom has have a VERY good life with her, her DH & baby Oliver. I recently went to a bird rescue site ( for the type of bird Gotcha is ) and it made me cry, reading some of the descriptions. People should do a lot of research prior to taking in any animal, bird, dog, cat, hamster, whatever it is because all animals require some type of care. I have a cat "Mason" that I dearly love. Mason is 16 months old and I got him at our local shelter when he was 4 months old. No one wanted him because he had an eye that needed care ( just an eye infection that required eye drops 2x's per day ). The eye issue is all cleared up, and Mason is a wonderful kitty....he is ginger colored and a big boy, so handsome !

I've really enjoyed watching Gotcha's videos, what a wonderful bird. But I absolutely could not provide the level of care these birds need. The dedication you put into looking after him is amazing.

I just love int the video it a good day to be silly that gotcha plays with the dog. He doesnt try to bite him or hurt him, he is really playimg w him. Amd when the baby starts crying his expression changed to oh no mama what wrong and runs to your feet.

Gotcha's a champeen dog-herder! I like how he makes himself a moving target to attract Mom's attention, & when that fails, stands on one leg & whistles! Whatever works.

He's just doing what's natural instinct showing everything thing alive his territory and protecting it❤

I know Katey has said he isn't limping and hasn't been injured but if you notice, he definitely has one foot that turns in. I wonder if that occurred before he was hatched.

+Kathy Edens were not sure if he was born that way or if he was injured in the past in the home he was mistreated in.. But I've had his vet check him over and she says he's just fine and it's not causing him any discomfort 💗

Hi Katey, I hope you don't think I was being critical or un-believing in what you've said about his foot. It is obvious that you take excellent care of him and that he is quite healthy both physically and emotionally. And it is easy to see that Gotha is in absolutely no pain whatsoever. My comment was only meant to explore a possible reason for his foot turning inward which did NOT include an accident or abuse in your care..

It is great to take a creature from a bad home and give them a new life. Not all things are reversed, but the love we show makes their life complete. I have 5 rescue birds, and they are all happy, but not all things they experienced will go away. But, love lets them forget.

My kids (boys ages 11 & 14) have been watching a few bird channels on KZread since we got our little parakeet Sofia. We love Gotcha! He is so sweet. There is that video of Gotcha running in the hallway where the person put in subtitles... We say "football's on Sarah!" all the time just to giggle. You are such a good mommy to your birds and to Oliver!

Gotcha is a boy

It's wonderful to see a unicorn majestically galloping around the living room and tossing a plush blanket.

It's so nice to see a dog and bird living together in harmony. My jenday conure came from a home where their dog pinned him to the ground and ripped his tail feathers out. Now he hates all dogs and attacks my dog at every chance he gets, my dog is a little chiweenie that hasn't done anything to him yet she still gets attacked and chased.

DAT BOI, hand feed him things he can't resist. With LOTS of patience and love he may decide it's ok to let you touch him some. Work with him on a daily basis. I hope he comes out of his shell for you!

What I did was sit next to the cage with some nuts in my hand. I never looked directly at the parrot but sat calmly and once in a while very slowly eat a nut. He would watch and watch me. I pretended to have no interest in the bird. Then one day I placed a nut on the perch. He grabbed it quickly and ran to the other side of the perch. Each day he came closer to me and one day he took one out of my hand. I'll never forget it! After that we were best friends.

Cissy2cute, I'm so glad to hear that your bird trusts you now! And that's actually s great strategy. Paying them no attention and just letting them observe you helps them get used to your behavioral patterns. Animals are great at picking up on our moods and are going to want to be around someone who's calm as opposed to excited/aggressive. Since you were calm he knew you meant no harm.

kroakie4-I also used a similar strategy with a semi-wild horse. It reached a point where I could stroke her neck with a halter. The next stage should have been slowly putting it on her but my landlord was so excited by my progress that I came home one day to find him chasing her because he had no patience and was trying to put a full training body harness on her. She naturally spooked and he ended up chasing her all over the place, yelling his head off. One day with him ruined a month's work of my efforts. She lost a lot of trust in any human after that.

Red Floyd-Joe, our landlord, was just an impatient person. A retired farmer, he had a heart of gold-rescued many horses from the Sioux Falls auction-but when he saw me stroking Rushetta with a halter he got all excited and one day when I was at school I came home to him chasing after her with half a training harness on. I was just sooo angry and asked him "Joe, why?" But no one could stay angry with him very long. He really was a happy go lucky guy who was fun to be around. I bought my beloved Rocky from him. After that incident, he would introduce me to people as "The lady who tames wild horses". Offered to sell us the trailer we were living in and I regret to this day not buying it. Living on a "small" farm of 80 acres with a herd of mostly semi-wild or formally abused horses would have been heaven. I would have loved to have had more chances to work with the ones that were having problems or simply not fully tamed. Alas, we don't always make the right decisions.
