It’s a date - Rishi Sunak calls a July election
The prime minister has called a general election for 4 July. It means parliament only has a few days to pass any bills still waiting to become law before MPs leave Westminster to begin campaigning.
On the Sky News Daily Niall Paterson gets the very latest from our deputy political editor Sam Coates and political correspondent Tamara Cohen on why the election was announced today, and what the next six weeks of campaigning could have in store.

Thank God, the nightmare of 14 years will soon be over.
Sunak basically said that he will spend the next 6 weeks convincing the public that he is the man to do the job that he’s had for the last 19 months 🧐 If he WAS the man for the job he wouldn’t need to convince anyone 🤷♂️

@@stuartwray6175 as time went on , and the governement was not telling to the public about when a schedulled generel election Is gone a take place , 🤔 , i assumed , the governement will wait USA 2024 , first , in november , and later , call elections in december
