I have both the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview (Dev channel) and Windows 8 RTM (build 9200) on my desktop PC. You don't even have to guess which one is more responsive. It's insane to me that the responsiveness dropped so much after all these years. Simple actions like opening the Start menu or File explorer all feel so delayed on the newer OS. MS really needs to step up with optimizations for their next Windows release.

they should aleast make window titles transparent and blurry (7 had stripes moving as you move window too but as they make uis oversimplified now they dont really need to add it)

Windows 8 is not actually bad as Windows ME. It's also the most stablest version of the Modern Windows. But the fact is people refused to learn the metro ui. It's not actually hard if you learn it but unfortunately majority don't want to change and there's no Option to go back to the Windows 7 ones

It's still unstable in many computers, used to have a Samsung laptop which had Windows 8.1 and ran like shit.

I upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 8 directly and then Windows 8.1 so i could keep all of the Windows XP applications on Windows 8.1

Really agree Because i am using windows 8.1 as a virtual machine and you know it's very fast smooth animation and more. Seriously windows 8.1 is best and most popular os if windows 10 was not released.

Fun fact: Windows 8 has a hidden start button. If you hover your cursor at the left side of internet explorer icon, you have the start screen thumbnail shown in a small rectangle. If you left click, you get the start menu.

Windows 8.1, with Classic Shell / Open Shell = Best OS they ever made. 11 is garbage, because with Win 11 they abandoned all got good U.I. practices they developed in XP.

I do not like a start screen of Windows 8. I installed classic shell to make Windows 8 look better.
You gotta be crazy, I wouldnt even upgrade to a good os like Windows XP in 2001 let alone a failure in 2012
5 hours later: you downgraded back to windows 7 because it was harder and bad to use

I never upgraded to Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, because I hate both of them. I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 as Windows 7 died in 2023.
