So for me, depending on how good of condition the rest of the truck is, I would either rebuild it, or get a crate motor for it and let it go another 150k miles. Its cheaper to buy a new motor than it is to buy a new/ used truck like that.

Before condemning it I’d pull the valve cover and verify both cams are timed correctly. If your cam timing is off it can make a ton of crankcase pressure. That thing should have nylon chain guide and tensioners. Definitely more than enough years on them to be bad. If you replace everything before pistons contact the valves you might get a couple more years out of it pretty cheap. Good luck!🍀

Guys retired mechanic you have to replace that exhaust cam timing solenoid and the Colorado engine family from 04 to 06 all had problems with the pcv valve stopping up and also were notorious for valve seats popping out and causing intermittent misfires but the main thing is out of at least sixty of those solionids not one could be fixed by cleaning the springs

If you want to diagnose a gas engine to see if it is rings, intake or exhaust valve: Take your engine compression tester and remove the gauge head. Then using that hose that remains, adapt it so it fits your shop air compressor line. Then, thread that into each cylinder you want to check and bring that particular cylinder up to TDC so that both valves are closed. Grab a socket that fits your crankshaft and put a breaker bar on it, then brace the breaker bar so that the crankshaft won't move. Now connect the shop air to that air hose off of the compression tester, so that cylinder now has shop air in it. Now listen at the air intake of the motor for leaking air - that means a leaking intake valve on that particular cylinder. Also listen at the muffler - if you hear leaking air, the exhaust valve is leaking. Finally, listen at the oil fill port. If you hear leaking air, the ring are bad. Do this on all cylinders and it will give you a thorough idea of the health of the motor. You can also do oil analysis on it to tell if the bearings are bad. Actually, you should be doing oil analysis on all of your engines, if you aren't already.

I would recommend getting a 3.7L Inline 5 cert rebuilt that are in those colorado for roughly 3K maybe lil more online. I got a cert rebuilt for around that for my 08 colorado LT. Excellent fuel economy for a truck at up to 26 mpg highway and i typically avg around 18.5-20 mpg with city highway combined while having decent power and torque. It has 242 Hp and 242 ft lb torq which is better than the 4.3L v6 in the blazer which is 190 hp and 250 torque. I have had my colorado for 13 yrs and it has treated me great.

Glad to hear about the rain. My wife grew up in Shelby and we used to work at the prison so we were just up there this past weekend for a visit. It is interesting to see how the area has changed since we moved a decade ago. Some of the fields in the area look great and some not so much. We even saw some chick pea fields while we were there. It was hot all weekend while we were there. We were glad it didn't rain while we were there because we camped at the Lake Shel-oole campground in a tent. My family used to farm north of Joplin so I know how important the rain is for the crops.

Thanks for another great video Welkers!!!!!!! It was interesting and informative and enjoyable to watch for sure. First: Bob’s pickup. From watching the video my opinion would be the engine needs to be replaced or overhauled. That particular pickup model had a lot of engine problems plus that model did not fair well in the resale market. I think you have piston damage plus other damage issues to the engine. If it were mind I would not invest anymore dollars in it. Needs to be replaced with another pickup of your choice Bob. Sorry for that news but that would be the way I would look at it. Your case IH headers : that’s great they maewest (spelling probably wrong) came and put those runner plates on the sickle guards. That should make a big difference on the way you run your header close to the ground. That company makes a lot of great products. Like the attachment they put on the skid loader to pull header wagons around. Good people and great company. New blue truck. Got the heater core now. That’s fixed. A few more items and some polishing and then ready for that test drive. Lots going on in this video. Was all interesting. Bob, sorry about your pickup truck. Am sure you can find a replacement that fits your needs. Hang in there. Be anxious to hear how the blue truck test drive goes. Pretty truck!!!!!!! Enjoyed the video with all of you. Super glad to hear the rain you got helped your crops. That is extremely encouraging!!!!!!’ Prayers for more rain 🌧️ for your area!!!!! The Iowa farm boy. Steve. 😊👍🙏🙏🌧️🇺🇸

It's looking like Scottie, Nick and Robert are going to have a fun project this winter. 😊 You guys ain't got much else to do, besides keeping warm and watching the markets go up and down. Mostly down 😢I'm thinking but with a good project to take your mind away is a good thing. 😊

Timing chains. Notorious for going bad. Had an 08 4cyl. Do both intake and exhaust. Good luck

Not a bad Idea. International Scout made a half 8 cylinder. They put a plate over 4 cylinder and keept the other cylinder running. Couple of them came to Iceland.

Get the turbo charged 4 cylinder they are putting in the 1500 trucks and put that in. If that little truck has 4 wheel drive it will most likely spin all 4 wheels.

115,000 miles on that Colorado does not sound excessive to me, and with the price of new pick ups, I would try to repair it. Dunno!

Camshaft/crankshaft correlation codes can mean an issue with the crankshaft sensor or the camshaft sensor, or can indicate that the timing chain has stretched or jumped time. The low compression on 2 cylinders is not good either. But I thinl your spot on, it needs a motor. Would be scared of a used motor as they are all gonna be 20 years old with a lot of miles.

So.. power steering fluid is what was leaking but bob said there was only 2 quarts in it when he checked the oil. So either that’s actually engine oil leaking from somewhere or he ran it low on oil. Either way, replace that cam actuator and make sure the pcv isn’t plugged up. That’s really not that much blow by for an engine and even it could be caused by timing being off

Honestly, it sounded like timing components on the front of the engine. Like the timing chain, tensioner, guides, etc. If those are off, your timing is going to be off causing running issues along with blowby because you got valves opening when they shouldn't if it's jumped timing or the VVT adjusts oddly because of the lack of tension. These engines with the complex timing systems don't go the distance like the small blocks.

Timing chain tensioner is also ran off of oil pressure, if it got low on oil you could've jumped timing.

LS V8s fit in Colorados... If he isn't attached to the truck I say cut your losses and replace it. It does "run" similarly to how my one car ran when it jumped time. If you do want to keep using it I say you are about at the point of taking the front cover off and checking the engine timing. I would also pull the oil pan and check the bearings for damage from any possible contaminates.

My vote - take the money for a new crate engine, sell the little truck and build a iron block LS 5.3, hei, holley, th350, and CHERRY OUT one of the square bodies in the bone yard and let Dad have one heck of a nice ride. Great videos, thanks.
