It Rained Inside Our Tent ALL Night | New Car Camping Gear in the White Mountains

Ойын-сауық

We headed up to the White Mountains and camped at the Lafayette Place Campground in Franconia Notch. After it rained all night and we got soaked on night 1, we headed to REI and upgraded our camping set-up. I wasn't planning on making a video on this trip, but I wanted to share the cool new gear!

For personal safety I have an 8" survivor knife, stun gun, mace, and machete, I added a Bruni New Police 9mm Pak blank pistol (very loud) and a .50 cal Umarex TR50 Paintball Revolver paintball airgun to my RV/ camping arsenal. Both are non-lethal and each is under $100. I also added a solar motion sensor LED lights and have an intruder alert. Remember even if you do not have a gun you can bluff "Go away I am armed with a gun.".Also, buy some M80 firecrackers when you hear weird noises or footsteps outside your tent light one up, and throw it out the window after the big bang you will scare most critters away.

Love the sleep system! Years ago when we car camped, we did something similar but used 2 flannel sheets in the joined sleeping bags. Gave us the option of just the sheet (summer) or the sleeping bag too!

Another nice video. We should see more of Chet. I recommend ponchos for rain gear. A large poncho like the ones that River Country sells for $10 can be used as a tarp over a tent in a frog choker or for your older tent, put it over the inner tent. IF you can find two of the older US Army ponchos, they can be snapped together to make a 7' x 10' tarp to cover a tent and the entrance. Consider adding a 12v electric refrigerator and a small heater for the tent when the temps drop. A small heater in the morning can help make getting out of bed less of an ordeal. Have fun. Good Luck, Rick

That's one of the things I'm concerned about buying tents from Walmart. I bought a 2 person tent and found out real quick they're not waterproof. I know you can buy waterproof solution, but you have to spray and let dry for a good day, to let the chemicals in the water repellent evaporate and air out. If I'm going to buy my next tent, I'd rather buy one that's water repellent and has good rain seals. Thank you for showing the tent. I'll consider REI tents. Will see if they have any tents you can stand up in. I can't handle the ones you have to scrunch down to change out of your pjs. Lol.

Wow deja vu! I did the exact same thing (regarding my tent). We had this awesome huge tent with a screened in veranda which we loved. Then the rain came. We got completely soaked. So the next morning we took it down and threw it in the dumpster. I knew there was an EMS store about 20 miles away and said to my wife “for the price of 2 nights in a hotel we can’t get an amazing tent that will keep us dry and we’ll have it for years to come”. So that’s what we did and we never looked back. BTW, the first time my wife and I went camping was at that same campground!

The old tent? I think it just leaked because it was a budget tent and the rainstorm was pretty heavy

We've camped that way on all of our early vacation to reduce costs. A 6 ×9 tarp on the tent peak almost guarantees a leak proof tent.

This isn’t car camping it is just…. Camping. Car camping is when your car is your tent. There are some amazing set ups by KZreadrs with bed, kitchen, toilet, shower, and ’living room’ all in a mini van. Love the new equipment. Sleeping bags especially!

I think car camping is when you're right outside your car. You can have a much heavier tent and gear because you don't have to lug it very far.

I think of car camping when you drive your car to the campsite instead of hiking to it.
