    Even Mike Ness said in the early 2000's that he became what exactly he used to fight against in the beginning of Social D. However, I still love Social D. For a $10K Goldtop I expect it to be in almost perfect condition and no stickers 😆 I do have one for 1K. But my Gibson rip off is pinstriped 😆

    I understand that this guitar is meant to be a replica of mike ness's specific guitar, so it has a bit of an exception, However I find it very interesting that guitar collectors Will pay a lot of extra money for a brand new guitar that has been artificially aged and worn, but yet when guitar collectors see a true vintage guitar with wear and tear from age they see it as players grade and undesirable and it becomes a lot less valuable, to me its just strange way of thinking,

  • @Paul_Lenard_Ewing

    @Paul_Lenard_Ewing

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes a mint condition 50's Gibson is worth 10 time one with even a small scratch or two. Personally I think all this literally damaging a guitar is a fad. In a few years no one will pay a premium for used ones but less as they have no way of knowing whats real damage and what is fake. Add to that and you will soon see a glut of Asian guitars reliced which will kill any cool factor in having one.

    Hi ya Trogly- so cool to see you Demo #79. The same morning you bought it I got that Sweetwater email with the 4 choices and 79 was there. I was contemplating #79 (graduated HS that year) and #86 cuz #86 had a nice very appealing goldtop look (possibly the most gold of the 4) and it was 8’13” so I liked that weight a bit more. I also thought if his is a 76 then you add a perfect 10 and it’s an 86. Needless to say when I refreshed the page #79 was gone (now I know where) so I quickly bought #86 Loved your demo and I’m hoping mine is just as killer. I compared the aging and I think 86 has a killer relic job just like your 79 As always thanks for the killer demo. It gives me confidence that the $9k was money well spent

  • @mraycgz
    @mraycgz2 жыл бұрын

    I wouldn’t get rid of the 79. They started in 1979 and that number is on quite a few of their releases and merch. Of course the #1 is the most desirable but number #79 is going to be the number two. One of their mottos is since 1979 and may even explain why that one was aged better. Edit-are you sure they all aren’t #79? As a lifelong social distortion fanboy that wouldn’t be weird for him to do.

    I was hoping you'd do this one! This guitar fits Mike Ness and Social D's style so well. This guitar is all over my favorite Social Distortion record, "Sex, love, and rock 'n' roll." EDIT: It's weird to me that the bridge pickup would be so wimpy compared to the neck. For most songs Mike sticks to the bridge, and at different times has had a piece of tape on the selector to stop it from moving.

    Presumably then, that's what the piece of tape on the neck pickup volume is for. If the pickups are the same height as on the original guitar, and the neck pickup has higher signal strength, because it's set at the same height as the bridge pickup (both pickups being the same output), then that would tend to suggest Mike knows to set the neck at 9 or whatever, to balance the outputs. Personally, I'd prefer to pack the underside of the bridge pickup with some veneers or washers or something just to raise it up a bit (if there's room). Then they'd balance better without needing to worry about the volume positions. The joys of Signature (Signature) guitars!

    Cool comparison. I too thought that price was a little much considering what you could also buy for 9k. I was looking at my Kalamazoo '76 Deluxe and I noticed the serial number is in gold and that some serial number databases point out that my guitar has digits colored gold. Was that common to have the serial numbers in gold or does it demark something special? Only asking because when I look up the serial number, some databases say its a limited edition.

    So cool to see a Norlin reissue. On the topic of Norlins can you do a video on how to tell if your Les Paul was made in Kalamazoo or Nashville? Especially during the mid 70’s when both factories were making Les Pauls? Seems to be a murky topic with a lot of misinformation out there and few ways to know for sure. Would be cool to get your perspective on it.

    Like a lot of people, I’ve made a bunch of these over the years with the Epiphone ‘56 models. So I’ve studied the original guitar a lot, and the Horsepower sticker just messes with me. MN has made many of these himself over the years with the Horsepower sticker, but on the real deal original one that he first got back on the White Light album, the cigar smoke clearly goes under the bridge.

    Wait. Did you say they possibly used a 2 piece maple top instead of the era-appropriate 3 piece top as a likely cost saving measure? I don’t know much about the economics of guitar production but it seems like it would be cheaper to use 3 piece tops than 2 piece because you’re using smaller, cheaper pieces of maple.
