This is a great example of a woman who is her own person, is proud of who she is, and surrounds herself with goodness, and love. If we all did that regardless of our sexuality, this world would be a much finer place to live and to raise children. Love you Rosie!

I don't come from an Irish home but I know what it is like to feel invisible, to want love and affection and know it was just not there, to wonder what was wrong with me. I didn't come out for years, as it would have been impossible to do so at a young age. Rosie states the emotional needs of all children so eloquently, that having even just one person who really loves you and sees you can make all the difference. I also relate to the silence of the dysfunctional home, that no matter what happened, no one talked about it.

Thanks for your story, Rosie. Born in 1956, I remember all-too-well the lack of terminology and awareness regarding gay humans. The only references I recall were negative. My name is Leslie, and when the boys in eighth grade wanted to insult me, they'd chant, "Leslie the Lesbian". And I wasn't gay - but imagine if I was! Thank goodness the nuns at my Catholic school taught us that we are all born in the eyes of God, and we all deserve love and human rights. It wasn't right to call people names. I turned a shoulder to those stupid boys. Fast forward - I am the proud mother of an incredibly talented, funny, smart, loving daughter who happens to be gay. You are so right about art and it's ability to heal. I know by reading social media comments, my Allison's music has touched so many young people in pain. I encourage anyone who is struggling with feeling whole, to find music that inspires them, and believe in it. Sing it out loud. www.allisonw.com XO

About what she said on 4:43. I'm really happy that nowadays the names of the different identities are common knowledge, and that there's information available about them. There are still really ignorant and prejudiced people out there, but at least young lgbtq+ people have access to that information and saves a lot of torment when building their own identity. Here's to every single person who made today a better day for humanity

Always been a fan of Rosie. She makes me laugh. When she got her own talk show & spoke about things she was passionate about I realized just how well spoken & intelligent she is & my respect for her was elevated to a whole other level. Like her, I was born in ‘62 and loved her pop culture references. She reminded me of things I’d completely forgot about.

...I'm not a Rosie O'Donnell fan...not by a long shot...and it has nothing to do with her being gay...but this video shows a softer, more sympathetic side of Rosie...and I applaud her for it...and I'm glad to hear that she didn't 'know' she was gay until she was 17...all she knew is she was a tomboy... kids don't 'know' their sexuality until they become sexually aware...all they know is they're kids...

The fact is, Rosie triumphed DESPITE all the crap..and in fact turned it into comedy, and became philosophical. I salute you, sister. My childhood stopped just short of Dickens, but I had two living parents..kinda. Maybe it's not what happens to us, so much as what we do about what happens to us I'm still unsnarling that one. Blest be all....

Rosa ( and Ellen) help change my life. I grew up very Southern and very Baptist and very stubborn. By being open I learned it’s ok to be gay (which I’m not) . Gay people are people who has a right to just be. I have no right to judge. Foster and neglected kids has a right to have a loving home. Rosa help me realize gay people can be good parents. After her heart problems, she also brought much needed attention to women health and foster care. As a nurse who works with special needs foster kids, I’m grateful for the attention she has brought and help open my eyes. ❤️❤️❤️

I love everyone just not that way! I have 2 children very early. Weren't planned, just curiosity. Didn't like sex that much and so divorced ensued. Poor guy I felt sorry for him. I just don't like sex. It has one use to produce children.! I even tried another marriage in which it got worse. Violence until I felt like a pawn. Finally got away and soared to become myself. I am very happy I don't have to submit to anyone. I don't hate sex I just don't have sex. ( I am 61). the word Asexual suits me. I haven't had any sex since 1996 or 7. So I guess I'm a virgin to say after 7 years of no sex you become a virgin again. Have you heard that?

Hi Julie , I'm not being rude please do not take this the wrong way. But what is asexual ? I'm to lazy rt now to look it up Lol ....from what I understand its someone whom chooses not to have sex. Then i was told that people who identify as asexual don't choose not to have sex there is lack of attraction. I'm confused ! :)

Just watching this, you can tell how Rosie is such a normal person, someone who has struggled through her life and has made a career despite all of her difficulties, and yet cares for causes. Compare that to Donald Trump, who has been born and raised with priviledge, money and power. There's really no comparison between the two, and their position. Considering all this, you can see how abusive and disgusting Dondald's constant attacks on Rosie are and how much of a bully he is.
