Yes, The Brothers Grimm - nice comparison. And yeah, when Steven says in response to the kind of dumb "over $10 billion" question in this that he doesn't care about the numbers, that he just wants people to find his films entertaining and memorable, you can tell he's being genuine about that.

Spielberg is the reason why I became a filmmaker. Grew up on Jurassic Park and the Indiana Jones trilogy, this man has been a huge influence on my life, and is my personal hero. I'd be the greatest honor to meet Mr. Spielberg someday. Even if it's only for 30 seconds, I'd be the biggest honor of my life.

Jurassic Park was the first movie I ever saw in a cinema. I don't think I was ever the same after that. Thank you Steven!

To this day that is my favorite film going experience. The sheer awe and wonder of first see the dinosaurs on screen is one of the most amazing moments in a cinema for me. That movie, among many others from him, is a masterpiece.

That's funny because E.T. was the first movie I remember seeing. I have a very vague recollection of seeing Superman II but I don't remember the actual film itself, just being brought along and getting a magazine-type program (yes, we got a big program, or we bought one).

The first movie I remember seeing in a cinema was JP2. I was very excited to see it because I watched JP1 literally every day as a kid. That two movies have a special place in my heart.

I didn't know this was gonna make me so emotional. I just love Steven and his movies so much.

I could name you 300 directors who don't do it for money simply off the top of my head.. It makes him an artist, but not the greatest artist. And, even that is debatable, he didn't hesitate to include tons of product placement in Minority Report.

He has made few flops but they're still great movies nevertheless and he can still make movies because of his impressive track record

this man is literally responsible for almost all of my favorite films. he made me love going to the movies and forgetting reality.

Spielberg's career is so overwhelmingly awesome that even focusing exclusively on his science fiction movies, you had to leave out discussion of "Close Encounters," "A.I." and "Minority Report." I love this director.

That he *understood* children enough to film E.T. in sequence to channel their REAL emotion is why I love this man for the #LEGEND he is.

Yeah. Spielberg can deliver on so many levels, and he can make movies in almost any genre. And when you put together movies like Jaws, Raiders of the lost Ark, Schindler's list, Saving private Ryan, Close encounters of the third kind and E.T. you get a pretty clear picture on how good a director he really is when he is on the top of his game, though it has been some time since then now.

EVER tbh. He's surpassed more than one generation which makes him a legend imo and can do it all. Sci Fi, action, historical, comedy

Arguably the greatest cinematic story teller of all time.

I love this man...he's given me a lifetime of joy.

He is such great director. And a lovely man.

I've always loved how Dee Wallace reacted to "penis breath!" in E.T. She goes from being distraught at her kids arguing to surprised and she's laughing at the insult while trying to put on her "Mom" face and failing miserably. Magnificent little touches like that really make a character real.

so true, that's what a great director does, brings out the tiny details. For me, the kids playing up in close encounters is still the landmark of realism in his movies.

The Terminal must be the most underrated Spielberg movie ever!

Where he says welcome to Jurassic park and the music starts, still gives me goosebumps like it did when I was a kid.

Made our dreams into reality, if ever there was a magician in a director's chair, its him. Thank you Mr. Spielberg, you're a legend.

I am a massively Steven Spielberg fan ever so de I was a tinny tinny girl and fell in love with Indians Jones. I actually studied Paleontology in uni because of him. I was so bloody excited when he replied to my tweet once. He's a master I. Story telling, no one else like him 😁😁😁

Jurassic Park, a cinematic masterpiece! Pioneering special effects that are still too realistic to this day!

That bit at 7.20 when he realises "The sledge Rosebud" a proper and true fanboy reaction. This is the greatest director of my generation talking to one of the best film geek/critics of the next generation.

That's what makes him so magical, he's about the connection with the audience, not the score on rottentomatoes. He makes movies that are made to live and be cherished in homes around the world. He films from the heart and we owe him so much.

In 2000,My elder brother once brought some movies and a cd player . It was a time we just got electricity and in our whole village there were only a few tv. We didn’t had a tv. So we played these movies in our neighbours tv. There were 30-40 people of all ages gathered to watch movie. We watched Jurassic park for whole night. It was so magical experience for watching human scientists retrieving giant creature. We didn’t even know dinosaurs even exists once. Thank you steven spilberg...

I can't think of any film I didn't like or any music theme that didn't go well with the film. The guy is my inspiration and I hope to make good movies as he did. All his films are lesson of me pushing beyond my boundaries. Thank you Steven Spielberg

Steven seems to me to be just such a lovely person. I go on my feelings and every time I see him speak what he says just resonates with me so much.

If you were born in the 80's like myself every movie that you grew up loving was made by this man. JP is my favorite movie of all time every time I watch it I feel like I am 12 again and seeing and feeling things I have never experienced. even after seeing it thousands of times. he has given so many people such wonderful vivid places to escape from our boring reality he is truly a master of Art!

Throughout this interview, I was living vicariously through Ali Plumb and geeking/freaking out the entire time. Must have been amazing for him to sit down with Spielberg!

This guy interviewing it's actually very good. Holds a conversation well. At ease with his guests and his questions are interesting and on point. He should be doing more work for the BBC

I remember crying when I watched ET as a kid. As far as I recall, it's the only movie that has made me cry (perhaps with the exeption of The Lion King).

Wow, Ali is great at details! I did not see anybody else comment this. So the t-shirt Ali is wearing says “Well Played” which is a voice/text command from the card game Hearthstone developed by Blizzard. In Hearthstone there is a card called Harrison Jones which obviously an homage to Indiana Jones/Harrison Ford. The voice line from the card (Harrison Jones) when put into play is “That belongs in a museum”! MINDBLOWN!

I saw E. T. when I was 5 in a grimy cinema in Amsterdam.. since then Mr Spielberg has been a hero of mine.

He is by far my favourite director ever.

Some people make movies for money. Others make movies for love. Spielberg has managed to make the movies he loves in a way that brings him financial success - which he uses to make movies for love. Unique artist.

Spielberg may be 71, but his mother was 97 and his father is still alive at 101. He could be making films for another 20 or 25 years, given his great vitality today. The oldest working filmmakers ever were George Abbot, 107, and Manoel de Oliveira, 106.

I've always wanted to speak to my favorite people as you do and never understood what exactly I should do to accomplish this. My mother said she remembers waiting for ages outside the cinema in this que that went all the way down this long main street . Then the manager came out and said there's only room for one more. My mother had a free ticket and was on her own so she was the lucky last to get in .
