Isuzu DPD System Regeneration Demonstration

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Isuzu's DPD (Diesel Particulate Diffuser) was introduced in 2017 on their 4JJ1 engines for their D-Max and MU-X vehicles. The DPD system which is made up of a DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst) and DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter), traps PM (Particulate Matter - soot) from the diesel engine's exhaust. The DPD was introduced (together with some other engine improvements) such that the engine will be compliant with the ever tightening Euro-5 emissions. The DPD system traps PM and eventually will become full. Therefore, the DPD system will complete a 'burn-off' or regeneration in order to burn off all the trapped PM. This occurs approximately every 500km's in the D-Max and MU-X vehicles. This video will show you an active regeneration taking place during normal driving conditions.

When I bought the MUX, i asked the salesman about the regeneration, he said you could turn the vehicle off and then back on to continue is that CORRECT.

I've noticed evey now and then I smell coming out the back of the car near the right rear hub, could this be the DPD burn off happening, the smell has happened a couple of times and I'm a bit concerned, if it might be a wheel bearing or something. thanks.

Not sure about the right rear hub. However, when the DPD does its burn and even after it has finished you may notice a burning smell near the vehicle, especially on the right hand side where the DPD and exhaust system is located. You will tend to notice it more after you park the vehicle after a DPD burn, but if you continue to drive, you shouldn't smell anything...

Am looking to buy an MUX in June this year but very concerned about the dpf issues in so many diesel engine 4wd's. Isuzu seems to have a lower number of issues with this than other manufactures. It was really great to see the regen in action - has made me less nervous about making the purchase. Thanks for the video and for posting.

I have a 2017 Dmax and I'm having massive issues with DPD Regens. It's driven 400+ km every week on the expressway alone above 110kph and the level guage rises and falls depending on engine load. It's not uncommon to see a Regen 90km from one another. Low ash oil used CJ4 spec changed every 5000km along with Premium Diesel. Isuzu don't WANT to know about it. Fuel consumption has risen to 9.5L per 100 up from 7.8 to 8 per 100km

@Archer Arrow Thanks for the info. I have noted a few people with PDF problems in MUX and Dmax vehicles in all the online research I have done. I will be purchasing an LST MUX in June of this year. I will be installing catch can and additional fuel filter. I hope to also get many km from this vehicle - and chose it after much research. Lets see how our respective MUX's go.

I am at a loss with my 2.5 2017 D max, it’s regen every morning sometimes more, the DPF has been checked and it’s clear, the bars on the regen go from empty to full in a matter of yards in the morning, it’s had new injectors before I brought it under warranty when the engine was running rough so they are ok. Any ideas what this could be, oil and filter changed as well.

Good question. I notice if I do highway driving, it gets around 500km for every regen. For city driving, it regens every 250 - 300km. When the engine is running hot and under load (e.g. highway driving), there is less particulate matter in the exhaust, hence why the DPD doesn't have to regen as often. I've clocked over 21,000km with no DPD issues so far. Isuzu have a great engine, product and experience. Hope this helps.

You need to cycle through the dash display to show the DPD level. There is no separate light telling you when a regen is happening, just the DPD screen with info.

This is very interesting. I have also observed on the new MU-X that they don't show the DPD information. It is quite unfortunate as I think this simple read-out could help prevent people turning off their engine during a burn... Let's hope Isuzu bring back this visual indicator.

Never had an issue with mine. It ain't pretty, and it is not as car like as many others, but it does everything reliably. At the end of the day, that is what counts. Toyota, and Holden both have pretty piss poor reliability with their dpf, and Ford and Nissan have a multitude of other issues. Isuzu are far more reliable.
