Isu Sekolah Vernakular Yang Sebenar

The real issue is the poor standard of Malaysian education and the quality of its teaching/teachers.

Saya Chinese, dan masuk sekolah kebangsaan sejak sekolah rendah. BM bukan masalah. Jadi, lihat sendiri siapa yg mulakan dulu semua isu yg berbau perkauman/agama, kononnya terancam, kemudian menjadi hero untuk menindas hak kaum/agama lain. Merekalah penghasut. Puan Mariam, terima kasih menyentuh isu ini. Sedih melihat 'pemimpin' Malaysia yg tidak berkualiti, tidak menumpukan usaha menyelesaikan punca masalah yg sebenar (maybe they don't even have the ability to see it), cuma pandai menyemai pemikiran yg tidak membantu Malaysia maju ke hadapan.

Madam Mariam, your views are very refreshing, fair and knowledgeable. Our country has become broken because of “the affirmative policies .” The vernacular schools have been wrongly accused of all kinds of “troubles” besetting our country, which are absolutely rubbish! All vernacular schools are by regulations, strictly required to follow a common Malaysian syllabus and the medium of instruction must be in Bahasa Malaysia. Regarding the standard of education in vernacular schools, if you were to check the quality of results for public examinations , for example ,SPM, HSC…the detailed results in vernacular schools are better than many national schools. Why? It is the quality of teaching and also culture… keen competition and hard work. 2. You are absolutely correct , when you mentioned that many students from vernacular schools who have scored excellent results but could not get the courses they applied for because of bumiputera quota in the universities, likewise , with promotion in the government services and army. Many poor non- bumi parents have to work doubly hard and save their “sweat money” ,in order, to sent their children to private institutions or universities. ( Many non- bumi parents have to limit the number of children in their family in order to save money for the costly educational fees in private universities! ) 3. Statistics in recent years have shown that Malay students in vernacular schools have been on the rise? Again, why? Could it because of the quality of teaching and also the values! 4. If the quality of teaching in national schools are excellent, parents of all races will compete to sent their children there! In fact, during the early days after independence, our national schools were the first choice for parents of various races eg Penang Free School. Thanks.

I will never never entertain those who said we should all be speaking this one language. To me, it's nonsense and unconstitutional because in Malaysia we do learn Malay (Agree we should be able to speak it) but, also learn/use/teach many other languages (Including the community respective mother tongue) and in fact, it's protected in the federal constitution that Malaysians are completely free to use, teach and learn any other languages. In fact, even in public sector, they are also encouraged to preserve other languages and I presume they can be English, Chinese etc. I'm also a big proponent of multi-lingualism, multi-culturalism and mult-religious as this is the hallmark of the country. For proof, check the below clauses in the federal constitution - this is 100% facts. Article 152 states that the national language is the Malay language. In relation to other languages, the Constitution provides that: (a) Everyone is free to teach, learn or use any other languages, except for official purposes. Official purposes here means any purpose of the Government, whether Federal or State, and includes any purpose of a public authority. (b) The Federal and State Governments are free to preserve or sustain the use and study of the language of any other community.

You are right most of the ministers sent their kids to international school that speak English. Non-Malay can speak fluently in Bahasa Melayu if they want. The issue is those who play the political in this issue did not spread BM out of the country. Since non-Malay only able to get non government jobs. They need to find jobs in multi national companies that does not use Malay language at all. Those who play politics on this issue pushes non-Malay not to speak Malay. Singapore national language is Malay but Singapore residents speak English. There no relation between what languages the residents speak with the development of the country. Singapore a first world country and Malaysia way back of Singapore.

They have to be competitive and be able to earn their living anywhere in the world. Only vernacular schools can prepare them to be competitive and earn their living.

Remember too when Tunku Abdul Rahman became our first PM in and after independence the quality and system of education then was at its best from elementary to tertiary level because English was the medium of instruction. All races benefited from an education system that was in English and in the English medium schools it was multiracial. But then all went awry with the passing of the National Language Act in 1967 in the Dewan Rakyat. In and after 1970 English schools were gradually phased out to make way for the Sekolah Kebangsaan. With the abolishment of English medium schools many a parent had sent their children to the vernacular schools. So it was a big mistake to phase out the SJKI.

It is sheer Hypocrisy that these Malay Leaders send all their kids overseas to UK,US, Europe & overseas - many expensive independent schools on Taxpayers money but majority Rakyat have to endure poor standards in Govt. schools. Racists school teachers also effect the morale of non- Malays in Govt.Schools, Pre-schools. Hence non-Malays prefer Vernacular Schools as enshrined in the Constitution, where they feel they have a fairer chance of of an education. Chinese & Indians have contributed immensely to building Malaya from nothing. Revenue from Tin,Rubber & plantations from the back breaking labour of Chinese & Indians contributed to infrastructure development. Yet till today their kids are discriminated in Civil Service, GLC, Scholrsships, Licences, New Opportunities, Uni Top posts etc. M'sians hope for the day when a PM & his Govt. will dismantle all forms of discriminations and unite all the races for the better good. Malaysia is rich enough not to have an ala carte Malaysian type of Apartheid policy. It is the racist mindset of the Top Leaders that are preventing a true Nationhood being realised. Every time they face a crisis the non- Malays are used as punch bags. And the extremists bring up racial issues to divert the attention of the Rakyat. This is most irresponsible of such opportunists. Hope there will be a New Multi Racial Govt. committed to a reset of the way, Malaysia is moving in a challenging world.

Kawan Melayu sy bertutur & mengarang surat BI sejak darjah 2 lg. Ttp sekarang ramai sgt graduan universiti tidak dapat mengarang surat permohonan kerja dlm BI. Bukan graduan melayu ttp pelbagai bangsa.
