Standard Pistol is a great mix of shooting at slow, medium, and fast speeds. Everything is done in 5-shot series, with a 60-shot match format. Each shot is scored out of 10 (depending on how close to the centre the shot lands) for a possible maximum of 600 points.

Target: ISSF 25m Precision target (5cm 10-ring, additional scoring rings are an additional 5cm each).
Distance to Target: 25m
Loading time: 60 seconds to load (from an empty magazine) and prepare. Upon hearing the command "Attention!" shooting time will begin in 7 seconds using a turning target, audible, or visual signal.
Course of fire:
5 shots sighting (unscored). 150 seconds for 5 shots.
20 shots (4 series of 5 shots), 150 seconds for 5 shots.

Excellent stuff! I have always wondering what's going on in the shooter's head, and you just made the perfect voiceover.

Perfect video for an absolute beginner like me. Although I'm not sure how well my Ruger Mk iii is suited to this type of shooting...

It won't take you to the Olympics, but you can still have a lot of fun shooting in club and regional competitions.

One on a tripod behind me, one on a tripod pointing into the port from downrange, one clamped (taped really) to a rail directly overhead and the target itself was from a spotting scope on the next port.

Retired competitor here - so others may chime in with their experiences. My primary events were free pistol and air pistol for Olympic qualification. I shot Standard pistol as practice and to give us more domestic events to compete in before the World Cup matches would start every year. For all of my events I went with a 6 o’clock hold. This allowed me precise positioning on the target as the black sights would be silhouetted against the white paper. Sub 6 hold was too difficult to remain consistent on elevation - since range lighting conditions are different around the world. And center hold would black out your sights and became too difficult to keep the sights aligned correctly. That being said, I ran into top shooters all over the world who were successful with all three of those holds I mentioned. The most popular was 6 o’clock, but there were enough others who were still winning world cups with the other holds that they couldn’t be ignored. So my advice would be to see which one gives you the best result and then stick with it for your training. 👍

The gun enters the aiming area too fast, if you want to shoot continuously, you need to maintain a consistent force. In addition, pay attention to keeping the gun sight on target, and maintain good strength when firing the bullet.

It came with the scope. I got it used so I don't know where it came from. I like that it's very compact (my old scope took up half my range bag) and it gathers light like no other scope I've seen. It's great for 25m but, being a fixed 23x magnification, it's not ideal for 50m.

What pistols do you have? I noticed in the setup video it looked like two pistols in your case. Appreciate the information also, a lot different from the ISSF videos showing later competition phases.

It's the same Walther GSP in all shots. This particular one is from 1977 and has a left-hand grip from Rink Formgriffe. Thanks for the feedback. This is intended to be more of an instructional series for club-level shooters wanting to get into the sport. The ISSF videos seem more like televised sports than anything else. They serve a purpose, but they're not particularly educational.

Sorry guys, but technique is making me cry. 20S serie - hand is raised very slow, but there is no sharp stop, hand is goes above the target, then looking aiming point, a lot of time is lost, then shooter firing in a rush with predictable results. Wrist is not fixed at all -> three of 7s in one serie. In 10S serie - all 5 shots are made in 4 seconds! too fast, not prepared, gun has not been come down to stay steel between shots. So, wish You luck and can't wait another one video with 560+

Handguns are not banned. TRANSFER of ownership to individuals is currently banned (yes, it's a fine hair that I'm splitting). Also, here's an exception in the legislation for those training for, competing in, or coaching Olympic Pistol events. It's better than nothing.
