My family came from Salonika after 400 years of living there under Ottomans. When Spain expelled all Jews the Sultan sent hundreds of ships to collect the Jews and bring us to the Ottoman world. Salonika was biggest Jewish community for 500 years till Nazis

I'm from Morocco, I have no problem to admit that the Jews were persecuted en masse on several occasions and it is well documented, the hatred of Israel and the Jews is still going on for religious motives. He calls it „kidnapping“ in the Maroccain context but obviously it proceeded not naturally but organized. My mother used to tell me that suddenly one day all Jewish neighbors in Aleppo (Syria) disappeared. That they were having meal together before and no one talked about anything and the other day, everyone wasn‘t there anymore and that until today she couldn’‘t tell why they have gone and how it had happened on one single day. My grandma‘s best friend was Jewish and she was very disappointed that she‘d gone without telling her.

When your bank account is frozen and your business is boycotted. Your uncle who did nothing is arrested as an Israeli Spy - they realize it is time ti leave. Many times if the government knew they were leaving they would arrest the Father or grandfather to try to stop the family from leaving,

in 1944, Syria prohibited any Jews from going to Mandate Palestine. They stopped allowing the teaching of Hebrew in,any Jewish schools. There were more attacks against Jews and Jewish businesses were boycotted, When the Partition plan was offered in 1947, there was an attack on the Jews who lived in Syria for 2500 years. Many Jews were killed, over 200 Jewish homes, shops, and Synogogues were destroyed. The Jews found ways to illegally flee to Israel, After those Jews left the government made it more difficult for Jews living In Syria, Jews who tried to flee. Faced the death penalty or prison im,a hard labor camp, Jews were not allowed to work for the government or banks, could not get telephones or drivers licenses, they could not buy or sell property and their Bank accounts were frozen. They paved over the Jewish cemetery in Damascus and the Jewish schools were closed and the buildings were given ti the Muslims. Syria took in Nazi war criminals and they worked for Assad By 1987.,the Secret police they seized 10 Jews saying. They planned to leave Syria that were tortured Jews in Syria lived in fear every day, the Jews were under surveillance by the Secret police. They could not meet with any foreignersm In Order to travel away from Syria they were forced to post a bond of $1,000- which the family was then watched. If the person did not return then the family was often arrested, By 1994, Israel had many undercover operations ti try to get Jews to Israel. By the 1990s some Jews could get exit visas if they were not going to Israel, so they went to the US or UK then to Israel and the US put pressure on Syria to allow the Jews to leave., By 1994, the Synogogue in,Aleppo which was used daily for over 1600 yeard was deserted, By 2001, the only minorities In Syria were Jews and Kurdsm In the Syrian civil war the Syrian forces destroyed many ancient Jewish Synogogues and Cemeteries. The Final Jews left in Aleppo were rescued in 2015. Over 62% of the Jewish sites in Syria were destroyed or severely damaged. The government spews Jewish hate on the TV and radio, If you were a Jew would you want to stay there?

They’re Ashkenazi so it’s irrelevant whether it’s Romania or the Pale of Settlement in the end. They’re not actually the ethnicities of European homelands they were residing in. These are people from the Levant who roamed around Europe and only came into society after Napoleon interfered in his subject nations affairs of citizenship. That’s really only since 1791 in France and in the exception of Poland 1264.

Charles N Because the Ashkenazi Jews are a Jewish diaspora population who coalesced in the Holy Roman Empire. The Ashkenazi by ethnicity are not Semitic, and not the descendants of the ancient Canaanites and Israelites. They are originally Khazars, whose King converted to Judaism in the 8th century AD. They were a semi-nomadic Turkic people with a confederation of Turkic-speaking tribes that in the late 6th century CE established a major commercial empire covering the southeastern section of modern European Russia. European. The Khazars share genetic traits with most people in today’s Turkey. www.google.com/amp/s/www.the-scientist.com/daily-news/genetic-roots-of-the-ashkenazi-jews-38580/amp Sephardic Jews, by contrast, are from the areas around the Mediterranean Sea, including Portugal, Spain, Egypt, and North-West Africa. The Mizrahi Jews, or Oriental Jews, is a term referring to the descendants of the Jewish communities that had existed in the Middle East and North-East Africa from biblical times into the modern era. Palestinian Jews and the Samaritans belong to this group. The Mizrahi Jews and the Samaritans are the ONLY Jews who’s got a legitimate claim to the land that we today call Israel. They have been living peacefully with their Muslim and Christians neighbour for two thousand years, until the British started to stir things up in the 20th century ......

@@trinitybertinelli552 Exactly, Jerusalem is sacred to everyone, Christian tourists come every year to pray in Jerusalem, why are there no problems with them? If you learned about religions you would understand that Muhammad gave an instruction to pray to the Jewish Temple. Why can't Jews pray on their Temple Mount? Sounds like your opinion is very non-objective, to keep the Jew in Morocco? Why? Do Afghans have no right to return to their land? Will the Syrians not be able to return to their land? Why should the Jews not return to their land? Last Christmas a fir tree burned in a Muslim city, is that the equality you are talking about? Or perhaps to praise the actions of a terrorist who murdered 15 Israelis, including 8 children. Do you keep the law? Israel is a democratic state, and it is strange that you say that before Israel was created, everything was good, if you compare the similar situation of Israel with some oppressive countries, there is no immigration in Israel. It has equal rights for all, and anyone who does not keep the law, Jewish or Muslim or Christian, is in prison.

I am from Afghanistan and had 3 jewish nieghbors. They had businesses right beside my parents' and as far as I remember were treated well and respeced. The kids would play with us and one of them actually went to high school with me and was a friend of mine. In 1978 after the communist coupe, they all left for Israel. After a very long time I finally got in touch with my friend who at the time lived in a settlment in the west bank. He had become very politicized by then and spoke of zinonism and how Arabs in Palestine were squatters and the whole of Palestinne should be cleansed of them. Can't remember the exact argument as it was in the early 2000s' that we exchanged messages. There may have incidents of violence against jews after the conflict but before that, I don't believe there was any pursecution as is claimed by many jews who emmigrated out muslim majority countries. I think they should be happy for what they already have and let the palestinians have a state of their own. The west support for zionism may have a sinister purpose which may very well be a 5th crusaide to clear this land of muslims but as soon as muslims are out, they will turn on the jews next.

(5) So when the [time of] promise came for the first of them, We sent against you servants of Ours - those of great military might, and they probed [even] into the homes, and it was a promise fulfilled. I find it interesting: when Jews lived in other countries, we were considered Jews. Part of a minority population. Definitely the "other". Now we (Jews, yes I'm a Jew) live in Israel and we get put into categories based on where our parents and grandparents were from. I guess humans just have a need to categorize. I know it's useful. It tells us about each other. I also think it's relevant. It matters somehow. Where we come influences our beliefs, our personality, how we relate to others. It may even influence our intelligence. For sure the way we look and dress and act. But I think ultimately, we need to choose to focus on what we have in common rather than what devides us because the whole world have already decided that we are Jews. That being said, I don't ever want to marry a Moraccan.

At no time in history was the Land Of Palestine call "Israel" before 1948. Herodotus, in 400 BC, used Palestine. So did the Greeks, Persians, and all the ancient peoples of history. In fact, "The Land Of Israel" is only a theological concept, not historical, which was seized by the European Zionist movement from Jewish mythology. The only Jewish Kingdom in Palestine was the Hasmonean period, which was called Judea, in a land the Romans called Palestine. Palestine is the most continually inhabited civilization in human history and today's Palestinian would be one of the oldest communities in world history until the European Zionists movement manufactured the "Jewish people" out of Russians, Poles, and other Europeans and later expanding it to include Iraqis, Morrocans, and god knows what, using fairy tales found in the bible. Ask any Zionist about the history of Israel prior to 1948 and they will answer with Jewish mythology. Zionist will say that the "Jewish people" has existed for 4000 years and "Eretz Israel" has always belonged to it. The whole Land Of Israel game is underpinned by historical fantasies and is complete and utter bullshit.

Dorothy, your question is sensible: not all Jews are from the tribe of Judah. For instance, take the common Jewish surname Cohen (Kahane, Kahn, etc.). This derives from Kohen - the Hebrew word for priest. In Judaism, priesthood is hereditary: the descendants of Aaron (Moses' brother) are called Kohenim. Moses and Aaron were from the tribe of Levi. (Levi/Levy/Levine, etc. are also common Jewish names.) Because of religious requirements, the Levites and the Kohenim have made sure to cherish their pedigree as descendants of Levi. (If you Google "Bnei Menashe" you can learn about people in India who claim to be from the tribe of Manassah.) Jews are identified with the Kingdom of Judea - that's where their name comes from.

Many of the other tribes were carried off by earlier invaders, and are referred to as the Lost Tribes. Every so often travelers encounter groups, often no longer Jewish, like the Pathans who claim descent from them. Some people returning have family traditions that they are from these exiles. However, some people do have traditions about descent from a specific tribe other than Yehudah, although that was most of who were left. Obviously the peopl e who know that they are Cohanim and Levi'm know that they are descended from the tribe of Levi. I do know people with family traditions that they are descended from other tribes. The Jews who returned to Ethiopia, for instance, have a tradition they are descended from members of the tribe of Dan. Mostly because of the upheavals of 2,000 years exile and that mostly it was Yehudah left, most people lost that tradition and just know that they are Yisrael.

Why would generations upon generations of Jews living in Muslim majority countries all of a sudden be treated badly and attacked? When did this coordinated violence start and why? It doesn’t make sense to me to have roots in a country for many generations and to leave all of a sudden. The violence in the Arab countries started as a result of the foundation of Israel. The rumors of what happened to the local Arabs in the war were wildly exaggerated (as they are still) and Arabs in some countries took it out on their Jewish neighbors who had nothing to do with it. Israel did not waste time getting these Jews to Israel. Every time there is some antisemitic activity in the world, Israel gets a wave of immigrants. And it's not like there were never massacres against Jews in Muslim history. There were dozens, in different countries.
