Also kill combatants does not mean is not a genocide, In the Bosnian genocide 70% of the kill were combatants, that is because what determine what is a genocide is the intention of the action, that is why determine genocide intentions is so important.

@@squareinsquare2078all is citizens are not soldiers! Maybe at best about 50-60% of the total population have served in the military. 20% of the Arab population are not allowed. There’s about 12% ultra orthodox, about 50% of women don’t serve in the military. Another Haaretz reports says that only 40% of men and 33%. The exemptions of arab and ultra orthodox citizens is a serious issue since their demographic is the fastest growing due to higher birth rates.

Most "soldiers" killed were not in army duty. They were just of military age. So they were indeed civilians.

It was 1200 civilians. There were 300 and some soldiers and there were a small number of non Israels.

There was an interview on AJ with an Israeli woman saying the IDF were using tanks to shoot into their homes thinking “the enemy” was in there. They also said IDF fired at some of the festival goers accidentally.

The Israelis living in the area that was attacked are known to be more liberal than the government, and so a lot of them did not have issues with Palestinians. So if the government knew there was a possibility of the attack around that area……….. Just my theory though.

Dr Ori Goldberg you are the voice of sanity. It was a great analysis and I wish more such an educated, central oriented approach would be presented in the media. Although the situation is hard we need more people who tell facts without emotions about what is happening, what can be done and what should be done so all that suffering won't repeat itself in the future.

The IDF is renowned for its above-average cases of friendly fire in the field (this is true even without the consideration of their 'Hannibal Directive'). Centuries of military analyses have concluded there to be a direct correlation between friendly fire incidents and troops with heightened levels of fear/anxiety, poor discipline and situational awareness, and a zealous disregard for life. Everyone suffers (themselves included) for the IDF's general ineptitude.

Now the Gaza assault has also brought to light the horrors of the seizure of land and displacement of Palestinians in 1948 to make way for modern Israel in the first place, the world must Never Forget
