I used to wear a gas mask during the Gulf was when I was 10 years old in Israel, as kids we used to decorate the gas mask box as we were forced to take it with us everywhere, so we treated it like a handbag... :)

I have the original Israel 4A mask, no drinking tube, i actually love using it for yardwork because it's super comfy

Not gonna lie, while I have a few ideas on what one of these would be useful for in terms of practicality, I'm glad to know these cheap gasmasks aren't utter garbage and/or dangerous surplus.

this was my first mask, loved it but it came with a grinded down strap tightner at the bottom and the nasal/ oral cup was bent in a uncomfortable but working way, overall my best mask

I got the M15 today and I love it

I’ve had the 4A1 for years now and I’ve wondered only recently if there was ever a mask bag made for them

How do you feel the M-15 compares to the USA M-40-A1. I wore the M40 in the US army and while it was an effective mask against the chemical agents we trained with (tear gas), it the system seems a bit complex to me. What are your thoughts on it? Do you think the M40-A1 is over-engineered?

interesting video. i was wondering that does this israeli gas mask model 4a1 and m15 also have some kind of a spectacle kit for glasses wearing users.

I have both masks and bought the battery powered air booster that fits on the filter. I prefer the m15.

Can you do a video about identifying Israeli mask manufacture dates as well as Israeli filter mfgr dates?

Can you install a drinking tube port/system on an Israeli gas mask purchase in 1998 that didn't have one originally ? Are DIY parts available ?

I can see light under my intake valve for my 4a1 Like after I open the plastic exhale valve cover I can see light through the gap under the intake valve. Is this normal?

I recently purchased a 4a1 respirator but one of the pegs or buttons the straps clip onto was broken, do you have any idea where to get a replacement?

In 1991 I got (and used) the "round eyes" mask as a child. In 1998 I was issued the "tri eyes" mask in the IDF. There is a way to put it on that's different than the way you show. Every Israeli my age has this muscle memory.

Yeah lots of mask manuals have specific methods for donning and tightening a mask but generally I use use whatever works best for me, as long as it makes an airtight seal, all's good.

I found a web site that said the Israeli gas mask are NBC. Why aren't they considered CBRN? Is it not the filter that would make the difference or the mask material it's made of? If there not CBRN what would be a good CBRN mask at a reasonable price? Thanks.

They both would stop Nuclear, Biological, Chemical and Radiological waste, just need the correct filter? What's the different between NBC and CBRN? once they label it as CBRN the price goes up?

I've got a few of the Israeli Model 4 masks, the one without the drinking tube and voice diaphram. They came with a white cap type thing screwed into the filter port, with a small hole at the far end. Do you know if that was intended provide breathing resistance to be used as a practice filter, or just a protective cover with a hole in it so someone doesn't suffocate if they forgot to unscrew the cap before donning the mask? Dumb question but I'm curious, and I can't get Google image translate to decipher the manual correctly

Thanks for the reply. I tried breathing through the mask with it on but it's hard to draw air. Much harder than with a filter on. I do like those masks though.

Do you know where the size is marked on the mask? Bought one that claims to be size 1 - ie. large adult on the scale 3 small, 2 medium, 1 large and N for child - but I feel like it could have done with being a bit larger.

I recently received the M15 mask secondhand as a birthday present from a friend. It came with a small white plastic cup about an inch and a half deep with 40mm male threads. It fits into the threaded hole where the filter would go normally. There's a small hole maybe half a centimeter wide in the center of the cup. Do you know what that might be?

I bought several for my family 20 years ago after 9/11, but mine doesn't have a drinking tube...Never took them out of original bags until today. Now are these somewhat nuclear fallout protective?

Love the m15 because 1 gas masks rule and 2 it be from My Bloody Valentine (1981)

I picked up 3 Israeli gas mask youths for my kids for a total of 87.81 usd and one for my self for 51.40 usd. Great for Covid19.

I got a civilian Israeli gas mask for Christmas it’s from 1993 but I now my mom and my dad are getting me a vm40 with a different filter of course so I’m super exited I literally wore the gas mask for the whole day without the filter because I didn’t want to use it all but my friend got a ww2 gas mask that had the word chlorine printed on the bottom he wore it without breathing and said that his face burned after it had huge eye pieces it was actually a respirator

Cool, as for your friend wearing an old mask and getting a painful face, lots of old masks have weird rubber so I would not really advise wearing WW2 masks.

Expired NBC filters still block particles, as only the charcoal section expires.

The hood thing is being produced now, But they did give out gas masks the last time there was a chemical threat (I still have a few at home) I think they tried using the hood, thought it wasn't good enough and are now optimizing it for civilian use

Interesting, as long as you have a blower unit hoods would generally work fine, issue is if you hand out masks to civilians I guess they need to be as easy to use as possible.

OK so I asked around, apparently they only supplied the hoods to children for some reason, and adults got the regular civilian gas mask, and they stopped using it for cost reasons. I'm currently looking if I could find my old one from 2002, it's not sealed but I don't remember them recalling it

Exhale valves can be easily replaced with normal umbrella valves you can find online or hardware stores.

Hi. Hope you see this message, just bought a couple of israeli civilian gas masks, they should be from 2012. There is no markings on the box or the filter. But on the inside of the gas mask it reads 27/94. Does this meen its from 94? It allso comes with a light brown filter, and not the silver or black one. Any feedback?

The 94 most likely means the mask was made in 1994 however the Israeli filters were made in black, brown, green, tan and silver so the filter is most likely fine.

Can you provide any knowledge were to find a real trustable filter. If you can thanks.

Yeah sounds like the mask is torn or the valve is broken, if the valve is broken you may be able to find a replacement online, if the rubber is torn you need a new mask.

I used to have one, until my grandmother threw them all out

There are two versions of the 4a1 a child version which is not actually called the 4a1, and the 4a1 which is the one size adult version.

How can I tell if I have the child's or adult size 4a1? Mine seems to be way too small for me. If I get my chin into it, my eyes just peer out the top of the lenses, the cup doesn't actually touch my nose and my face doesn't so much fit into it so much as it sits against the front of my face. Trying to figure out if I was given the wrong size by mistake or I just have a freakishly big noggin

These seem to be the most versatile of most masks around. I suppose these will be good as multi purpose masks. Going onto a new subject, the standard issue German gas mask in WWI (can't find a designation unfortunately) has a strange six point frame installed behind both eye pieces. Do you know what their function is?

The GM15 onwards, to reinforce the frame of the mask, because the honeycomb frame kept the glass from beaking.

Ah, thank you. Certainly shows the technological advancements in mask designs. I'm thinking of making replicas of vintage respirators and gas masks that are safe to use. Basically without the chemicals or asbestos in the filter so people can wear them without any concern.

Both have drinking tubes, they are in the same place on both masks, left cheek facing you, right cheek when worn.

Junior Escamilla be careful with amazon. A lot of people selling fakes especially right now. As far as the model 4 is that’s about it. As long as it maintains a good deal you should be fine. Just make sure the filters are rated for whatever you need and are not expired

No it was just made at a different time, the 4a1 has been in production for around 40 years, so the design has changed over time.

Cheers, sadly very few places will regularly be cheap, eBay is your best bet from proper safety supply companies as they often only sell in-date filters, if you are lucky you can get filters with a year+ on the date for £5 each or so. Often the price increases based on length of the best before/use by date.

Wild Child they will protect your lungs from inhaling radioactive particles However if you are in a situation where there is a radiological threat unless you have a lead suit the only thing you can do is leave

Does the oral-nasal cup inside not fit you properly or is it damaged? Normally the mask can't fog up because the hot air is forced out the mask.
