Isolate Vocals Drums Bass Instruments From Any Song: DeepRemix Review

Ever wanted to extract different parts from audio files without lots of complicated (and expensive) production software?. This is a review of DeepRemix, an exciting and affordapble new software product - available for both Windows and Mac.
DeepRemix makes it easy for anyone, regardless of experience, to separate their MP3s and audio files, then edit each vocal and instrument tracks. This will be ideal if you want to:
- Compose, sample and share new versions or stems of your MP3s and audio files.
- Extract vocals from full songs to use over different backing tracks.
- Create instant backing tracks and mute parts to play or sing over.
- Experiment with and randomise new tempos, effects, pitches, keys/scales, time-stretching plus create new loops in real-time.
- Re-balance and make volume, panning and EQ adjustments.
- View and edit audio as beautifully presented, colour-coded notes, allowing different layers such as voice and bass to be quickly identified.
- Rip your audio apart - easily. Then put it back together in new and exciting ways.
If you love the sound of what it can do, then you can download a trial of DeepRemix audio separation technology from the Hit’n’Mix site. Or just read more:

I’ve been using this program for almost 6 months. For the most part it’s a fantastic tool and allows me to make backing tracks in as little as a few hours as opposed to a few weeks. The only ‘flaws’ with the program are that it makes cymbals sound a little ‘off’ at times and synth sounds are not able to be separated from guitar. To separate these you have to do a lot of what I call ‘cleanup’, isolating the guitar or synth notes and removing them or pasting/moving/lengthening them. Still, I enjoy the process and it’s definitely a breakthrough program that takes making backing tracks to the next level.

Ok, I know I just posted yesterday, but I just downloaded this software and used it to isolate a bass line I'm working on and ......WOW! This program ROCKS! Honestly, I don't need all the bells and whistles that this program has to accomplish what I need to do, but really, honestly, this was so worth the price. Lovin' it.

Stumbled on this video a few days ago, installed a trial version shortly thereafter, and then bought the full version this morning. My usage will be fairly limited - I don't want to "create" stuff, but simply to isolate bass tracks on all sorts of music so I can hear how the pros do it (and learn accordingly). Am running on a fairly old Mac (High Sierra 10.13.6, SSD, 16GB RAM) but, nevertheless, have found everything works well - okay, ripping of most songs takes 10-12 minutes but, as the lady said, just go grab a cup of coffee while you wait. The isolation far exceeds anything I've been able to achieve in the past via selective EQ'ing etc. so, even at the relatively high price ($150+ here in Australia), I consider it money well spent.

I used the Trial Version of DeepRemix last night. I will see it's a pretty good program. I decided to rip Jeff Beck, Led Boots WAV file to extract the various parts; drums, bass and then other instruments. Safe to say it's not going to be a perfect extraction mostly because of the frequency challenges of different instruments. As an example, the drums sound pretty good, but the cymbals, because they are a higher frequency, the software is challenged to know "this is the sound I want and ignore the other sounds around it close to that higher pitched frequency." And each cymbal type has a different frequency, as well as whatever EQ was used in the master to alter it. As a result, some of the cymbals, instead of sounding like "tish; tish" will instead sound like "swoosh, swoosh". A distorted result. The bass was pretty good but it include some rhythm keyboard artifacts in the background. And finally the guitar/keyboard "other instruments" rip, yielded the guitar and keyboard, and that was pretty good. (No vocals in this song to test). So in conclusion, I would say you aren't going to get a quality that is perfect for using to record another song, vs having the actual stem from the original. But you can also use some of the Mastering sliders to improve the sound a bit. It's also interesting though as a tool to learn a part and hear subtle parts that are going on that are easily missed in the combined song. As in this song, there is a rhythm keyboard part that is playing that I never knew was there.

Impressive! I'd been considering the Moises app for separating tracks for learning tunes and being able to play over the drum track or guitar track (and a great feature is the chords scroll as the tune plays making it much easier to learn the tune), but the interface is somewhat confusing (i.e. where do the exported tracks export to? The "settings" are very simplistic and don't offer much choice), plus it's mainly cloud based, you upload a song to their server, it does the extraction, displays it on the app and then you get to figure out where the tracks export to to enable you to drop them into an audio editor of your choice. Another downside is it is subscription based, so you're not "buying" the software.... This software sure has a lot more bells and whistles and seems geared toward DJ use and other song creation (copyright issues raise their heads!) but I like the idea of paying for it upfront with none the subscription crap, but $100 for DeepRemix is pretty pricey... what Hit'n'mix needs to do is offer a scaled down version without most of the editing features (I don't need a piano roll editing UI) to the size of, say, Moises and make it around $40 or $50 or less...

I"m working with the tiral version right now which I love. But I am wondering if there is a way to change the machine learning for ripping the individual instruments. I did a song where it was about 80 percent there, but if I had some "fine detail" controls I could make the "bleeding" less/greater depending on taste. Do they not have any kind of "fine detail" controls?

v5.2 doesn't now contain a quality slider as most users requested all ripping to be high-quality. However, we will consider adding a quality slider back in at some stage. Any wrongly assigned notes can be re-assigned to the correct layers by selecting the notes and then clicking the Arrow next to the correct layer on the layers panel. Harmonic Editor in DeepAudio can also be used to clean up some parts/notes/harmonics more surgically/precisely as well.

do you have to get the full version to take out vocals or any instrument??? i want to test the free version, i see it works somewhat, don't think this is as good as most people think, they are lots of slowing down programs out there, plus changing the mix somewhat(which may not quite do as much as this) but if its for people to figure out solos? etc, the slow down method is all you need!!!

I'm interested in knowing what equipment you need to do this stuff...(?)...obviously a laptop and a mixing board of some type...and then also the software to do these song voice & instrument isolations, correct? Will it isolate individual harmonizing voices as well? I want to get something like this, so that my wife can hear the different vocal harmonies in a given song, and be able to sing the different vocals in that song... A perfect example of this would be "If I Fell", by the Beatles (we enjoy singing this together!), where John (Lennon) starts the song singing melody, then switches to harmony when Paul (McCartney) begins his intro, taking over the higher melody line (but they BOTH sing melody, in part, throughout the song)...it's a beautiful duet, early in the Beatles song catalog.......it would be great to isolate their individual voices in this classic song...! Another example would be intricate, multi-layered vocal tracks (many of Queen's songs have incredible harmonies that would be fascinating to deconstruct, and hear the individual voices as well as instrument tracks)... One last query...what type of audio formats are conducive to being deconstructed? MP3/4 tracks? Any other formats, like straight off a CD disc? Or does the software only work on digital audio tracks---and if YES, then what audio entities are legal to access audio files to manipulate? Or have I opened a H-U-G-E can-'o-worms by asking these kind of questions (I can imagine that there are copyright protections in place to protect artists & record companies)...?? 🤔🤨😉

Hi! Really well presented video. Thanks! I am mainly looking for a way to separate vocal, drums, guitar, Keys & bass from old recordings of my songs. In some of the recordings, my vocal is soft [because it is in a lower pitch] ... and the bass also needs to be normalized. If I can get the bass and the vocals separated onto different tracks in Logic Pro X ... I can have the songs re-mixed. I don't think I'm interested in doing anything more fancy than that. Is this the right software for what I'd like to do? Thanks!

Great review! I am looking for a tool to practice guitar and play along to, record myself and make usable backing tracks. You can find many guitar backing tracks on the internet but most are of poor quality. I really like the idea of being able to separate bass, drums, vocals and guitars. It makes it easier to share with other musicians in a (cover) band setting: every player can get their backing track for their instrument to practice at home, so we can make better use of our time at the rehearsal. I hate it when guys show up under prepared: rehearsal is for fine tuning, getting things together and fun, not for practice. I don't need all the fancy options, pitch, tempo, edits etc. I just want isolated tracks that one can use to study and practice (and send easily to Audacity). In this case, is DeepRemix the right solution for me or is there any other solution that would better fit my needs?

  • @robbiedaug

Most of these separation software seem to not separate the guitar if there is a keyboard and/or string part in the mix - they all end up on the "other" track. If i wanted to separate tracks from Floyd's Shine On You Crazy Diamond, all the keyboards will be on the same track as the guitar. That sucks. I would like to busk using that song but in order to use the keyboards in the mix, the guitar in the song will be also heard when i am playing my guitar. So, that's not very useful for what i want to do.

I am curious about the “other instruments”..playing around with it, it seems to lump everything together. I find it “difficult” to isolate on an instrument like a saxophone that is mixed in with a guitar, for example. I am not sure if there is a particular approach I should take to make that easier besides going note by note to find the sax.

I agree. I am also having trouble selecting the different sounds into the respective instruments after it was ripped. I am currently working on Don't Stop Believin'. I think it also depends on the source of the file that you rip. I believe it does a better job if it is an MP3 file and not a WAV file.

Just wondering, if I have a cassette with a live rehearsal recorded and I put the file into this program, would it be able to successfully isolate I.e vocals & percussion? 🤔

Can you please tell me, can this software actually split up the song into seperate lead guitar and rhythm guitar stems and can you mute the lead guitar only or mute rhythm guitar only ? i want to make lead guitar backing tracks with no lead guitar and it want to make rhythm guitar backing tracks with no rhythm guitar ? cause i want to play my own lead guitar solos to my own backing track and i want to play my own rhythm guitar chords to my own backing track ?

Hello, no I don't believe you can separate groups of guitars. They've recently added a feature where you can separate keys/piano/synth and guitar from eachother, but it takes a bit longer. Before you had keys & guitar combined into one stem called other.

Can the ripped files be imported into Garageband DAW? I have some tracks from my band from the seventies but the band has been recorded on an old tape machine and one track. I need to bring the vocals more out front now its lost in the mix. I use Garageband. Is this possible I dont want tp buy this program and find it wont do the job. This is by far the best site on KZread for musicians doing their own recording on a small home studio

They built there software around the hard work of friends of mine. Granted they are mentioned in the credits I think they should of been recognized in the award as well. Not everything is honest but I will be honest. It's still not as good as what my friends currently have. The only difference is this is an all in one installer but still doesn't have the clarity of the models we use.

Although this technology is in one sense impressive and is continually being refined and improved, ultimately, the results fall way short in terms of the sonic fidelity of the separated stems. This of course tends to limit the usage to the production of "Creative" compositions rather than the creation of natural sounding high fidelity recordings.

I could be wrong, but a day later the company seems to have pulled a bait and switch. I don't know how long the sale was supposed to last but the sale is already over and the base prices have changed for both products. DeepRemix is now roughly £69 base instead of £79 ( base is cheaper than before but still higher than the sale) and DeepAudio is roughly £249 base instead of £209 (a 23% increase). Note when I say "roughly" regarding prices it is because of the site displays the prices in US Dollars to me and I had to use a converter to get the pounds sterling prices to compare with the prices in the video.

Hi, there was a time limited launch offer, prices in UK are currently £79 and £299, they are presumably shown here including VAT, hence why there is a difference to US price that you will see 🤔

haha just about simultaneously this AI thing takes the world by storm in at least 3 different tastes. DeepRemix, iZotope RX and Steinberg SpectralLayers which is the one I know. The funny thing is that ALL of them can separate Piano, Other, Base and ... you've guessed it ... Drums! Me guess somebody has sold licenses for an algorithm a few times lately, right? :D SpectralLayers also is ARA2 compatible meaning it can be used like sort of a plugin in a host. I dunno about the other two, they might have ARA2 compatibility either as a host or plugin? What's great for me is I can use Steinberg SpectralLayers in Steinberg Cubase and ... it should be called SpectracularLayers! But the two others are most likely very good too?

We need more of these honest accurate reviews to keep these developers in line and unable to release crap software onto an unsuspecting public.

REALLY wanted to like this software. After first install on my Mac I gave it a try and it poisoned the OS to the point that I had to erase hard disk and rebuild the computer from scratch. Coincidence? Maybe. After I got the Mac back up and running, tried to install again. Crashed in the middle of installation. And again so badly corrupted the OS (Monterey if anyone cares) I am having to reinstall the operating system. Trash. Run.

Excellent review and great video as always. How does it compare to Audionamix software? I bought the original Audionamix XTRAX Stems back in 2017 (I’m now on 2.1) and while it works for some tracks, it’s not that great on others. I haven’t tried their new subscription-only versions as I am a hobbyist and don’t use the software enough to justify a subscription. I enjoy experimenting with mashups and converting mono tracks to stereo. DeepRemix sounds like cool software and seems reasonably priced at US$99 but I may wait to see if they have another sale later this year.
