The cast and crew were indeed incredible. Direction, score, and editing as well. I can't think of a SINGLE scene that is unclear, out-of-place, stupidly written, etc. Strange side note: I was decked out in a complete Vader costume when I met the "small lady" who shoots the machine gun (in "The Last Resort"); it was at a costuming and film fan event in Campbell, CA. This was a few years before she passed away. :( I think it may have been 2014 or 2015, but I don't... ugh... "recall". Seriously, though. She seemed nice.

Most of our actual future was predicted through sci-fi. Even going back to the 1970's Sci-Fi novels by Philip K Dick, who wrote the story Total Recall was based on, lots of that stuff from his mind has come to fruitition.
I just love these movies. They were so surreal, which is exactly what a movie should be! A fanciful dream, a triplike fantasy! Everything now is just panic and drama. Empty calories. No scenes are set anymore. We need a return this!

It's called "The death of the author". Writers are no longer employed by Hollywood. The main reason being that NEW stories are RISKY. Some work, some don't. Originality and ingenuity always carried risks. Theres also the factor that MANY of the greatest movies ever made, were not lucrative at the time. They "failed" at the box office, and their greatness recognized much later. The movie industry is now owned by a handful of giant conglomerates. Their only interest is the bottom line. Not creativity. The creative people are no longer in charge of that creative industry. It's all accountants and bankers and shareholders. So - why RISK it? They just take the same old tried and tested stories, change the names and settings a little, and make the same movie over and over. Cos it SELLS. It appeals to young, old, male, female .... etc. Hence the vast numbers of "remakes" and the infinite churning out of "Marvell vs Superman Vs The Hulk vs The Galaxy : Ultimate Showdown III" or whatever the fuck they are onto now. Only independant cinema remains but unfortunately, they don't have the huge budgets or power to bring us awesome movies like Total Recall.

This film was absolutely fantastic in just about every way one might imagine. The cast, crew, EFX, direction, music, editing, costuming, and essentially EVERYthing were all perfect. And to anyone who is wondering, there are *SO* many "Easter eggs", it has SO much foreshadowing, and what's even better is that it's all there, right under your nose... but you'd NEVER know it. :) Not until you've seen it at least twice.

When I flew 707's and DC-8's as a kid from L.A. to N.Y. in the 60's, they had screens overhead about every 3 rows. They ran a continuous film from the front of the plane all the way to the back so if you were halfway back or more, you could see the same scene repeat each screen on down, about 10 seconds lag between each. They'd play a couple kids shows and then the movie cross-country. It was pretty cool.
