same goes for most languages, we even have some strange ass non ass related ass language in my language, and still if i would directly translate your ass slang and start doing it in my language i would probably get arrested, and the same goes the other way around.

They're jokes that only work because he's ESL and naive on what phrases mean. They don't in actuality mean the things he's saying: Lazy ass means a person who is so chronically lazy that it's harmful. "My lazy ass husband" means a husband who is always lazy not just from time to time, and to the point it both creates a rift between the husband and wife AND causes them to miss out on things. Long ass, as in "this long ass flight" means an uncomfortable and tediously long flight. A grown ass man, means an adult man, whom is acting like an ass. In these contexts adding ass generally means the thing is terrible. Bad ass does not reverse the meaning, it doesn't mean good. Bad ass means an asshole so bad they're intimidating, frightening or they make a lot of trouble. A smart ass has their brains in their ass. A dumb ass has their brains in their ass and they aren't very bright. Move your ass refers to the fact your ass is what moves your legs and thus moves you forward. So move your ass could also be said move your legs which is also a thing people say. My ass does not mean no. It means bullsih!, or human poo as it were. But the latter would be weird to say, so we instead refer to where it comes from. Etc, etc, you get the gist. That he's getting them wrong in such a naive and quirky way is part of the joke.

I believe it's because how creative Finnish language can be on its own. Now, I don't know about any other languages, but as a native Finn, I know the joys of how creative Finnish can get. So it might be easier for Ismo to play with other languages as well. Of course he's a talented comedian to boot. And we speak a LOT more English than Swedish (which is supposed to be our 2nd language) so it comes pretty naturally to us I'd guess.

I can never get tired of his jokes. I was driving and listening to this. Kept getting off-road bcuz I was laughing so hard.

Takes some talent to be a comedic genius in your non-native language and boy, does English have a lot of things that can be joked about. I'm surprised more people haven't done this. But Ismo is definitely the best at it. Funny-ass guy.

The differences between upper-intermediate, advanced and native levels are massive. Unless you grow up in the country until you're well into your teens you'll never reach true native level. Fins have very good English generally. Ismo is advanced and enjoying exploring the nitty-gritty of native level English, but he'll never reach true native level. Adults who go to spend 10 years or even 40 in another country and say they've reached native level are talking out of their... ass.

I've never seen anybody breaking down a joke into a million pieces like Ismo!

He has to be the funniest man that ever existed. I was laughing so hard l could barely breathe.

This bit is a masster-class in comedy. The content is fairly timeless, and you technically limit yourself to one swear word (and it's not even on Carlin's list); a good sign that it still works is that every utterance of "ass" is even funnier. The character works incredibly fluidly - the curious and befuddled English learner stammers along, seemingly in confusion - but it is, of course, fully deliberate - this lends itself to a great bait-and-switch at 6:16 ("I had to pull something out of my... hat!"). Words are sometimes pronounced unclearly, but never when they're new and important - so it serves the character without hurting the clarity of the bit. Delightful to watch and rewatch!

woW, this comedian is so creative. Add that to his stutter type, shy, nerdy, foreign (Finnish) accent intermittent delivery method, really makes it funny. I want to do stand-up comedy myself, it's on my bucket list.

I shared this with a friend of mine. He is one of my very closest friends. And he loved it so much that every time we talk we both try to somehow use the word "ass" in every sentence. It has become a competition between us to see how creatively we can use the word "ass" in a sentence.
