What baffles me about non believers, is how a random explosion in space, randomly occurring when it did, should then go on to produce the most complicated and complex life forms in the universe. And all this creation happened without cause, with purpose and without an end goal. No wonder life is meaningless for them.

The complexity we observe could simply be a result of natural processes without any grand design or intention behind it. It's not a matter of thinking something happened without purpose, but rather acknowledging that purpose is a human construct imposed on the world around us.

@@seekthetruthandthetruthwil2388 Cool story bro. So according to you, God didn't create suffering. That means there are things that exist beyond God's control, which implies that God isn't really almighty and omniscient then. I especially like the part where God has to resort to convoluted shenanigans just to forgive humans for the flaw that he himself ingrained in humanity. I much prefer the Islamic view, where God made life in this world as a test of character and faith.

@@seekthetruthandthetruthwil2388 Is it really that strange to you that we believe that the Creator of everything in existence also created suffering? According to you, you think that there is some other creative force in existence that is beyond God's control. That is blasphemous, is it not? Yes, we do believe that Allah created us to suffer : "Indeed, We have created humankind in ˹constant˺ struggle." - [ Quran 90 : 4 ] Life in this world is a test of character and faith : "˹He is the One˺ Who created death and life in order to test which of you is best in deeds. And He is the Almighty, All-Forgiving." - [ Quran 67 : 2 ] "We will certainly test you with a touch of fear and famine and loss of property, life, and crops. Give good news to those who patiently endure-who, when faced with a disaster, say, “Surely to Allah we belong and to Him we will ˹all˺ return.”" [ Quran 2 : 156 ] "Do people think once they say, “We believe,” that they will be left without being put to the test? We certainly tested those before them. And ˹in this way˺ Allah will clearly distinguish between those who are truthful and those who are liars." - [ Quran 29 : 2-3 ] "Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while such [trial] has not yet come to you as came to those who passed on before you? They were touched by poverty and hardship and were shaken until [even their] messenger and those who believed with him said, "When is the help of Allāh?" Unquestionably, the help of Allāh is near." [ Quran 2 : 214 ]

Thats what I always said to aheist. If life is a mere coincident dictated by meaningless events that happens to form functioning units and its all meaningless, why truth even relevant at all? Why do they care about what truth is? I mean their belief implies that it should not matter whether you live your life based on lies or truth, because in the end of the day we all going to end up the same anyway....we all going to die and turn to nothingness and irrelevant. Why care about survival at all? why do they care how people live their life? Why does it makes difference if joe living a good life or evil life? Why do they care if joe live based on lie or truth? Its all irrelevant. Theist have a very good justification to spread their belief. In fact they are cruel if they dont believing their is huge consquence with our life choice. Atheist dont have that justification. yet nowaday they are the most avengelical in spreading their belief. Look how agigated they are at the sligthest mention of God.

It is said that the true end of childhood comes with our first experience of death, especially that of a dear loved one. This is followed by apprehension of death for ourselves; with the acquired state of self-awareness through which we come to discover our own mortality. This is a point of no return, where the illusion of life for many is first and forevermore broken. What has been seen cannot be unseen. Innocence is gone and there is no going back. At this point our own existence becomes a question that must me answered and the absence of a satisfactory answer brings about the existential vacuum - a sense of meaninglessness.

In a scenario where an individual lacks belief in the existence of a divine entity to whom they are morally answerable, consequently eliminating the prospect of an afterlife, and when one contemplates the inexorable destiny of eternal oblivion as humanity’s ultimate culmination, the query arises as to the purpose of endeavoring to regulate one’s conduct within the confines of socially acceptable norms. Indeed, what significance can morality possibly hold if the ultimate destiny of all entities, encompassing time, space, and matter, culminates in an abyss of perpetual nothingness, obliterating any semblance of meaning? In such a godless cosmos bereft of a divine presence or an afterlife, the very notion of morality and meaning dissipates into a mirage. Subjective morality, a mere illusion, emerges as a construct born from the emotional inclinations inherent to humanity, fostering the development of secular principles under the banner of humanism. Thus, the constructs of human values and societal norms appear devoid of purpose and devoid of meaning. The pursuit of moral conduct aimed at the welfare and cohesion of society appears futile in the absence of divine judgment, especially when considering the ultimate annihilation of said society in the distant future. Secular ethical frameworks, exemplified by utilitarianism and deontology, mirror the assertion made by atheists regarding the man-made nature of religious dogmas. People may espouse the belief that life and consciousness inherently possess value, thereby imbuing significance into the endeavor to enhance well-being while mitigating suffering. Yet, one may ponder the rationale behind such pursuits when suffering remains an inherent, inescapable facet of existence. Many individuals derive purpose from their existence by striving to forge a positive impact upon the world; however, the query lingers - why engage in such endeavors if the cataclysmic eventuality of an asteroid, capable of irrevocably extinguishing the human race, threatens to render one’s selfless acts and altruistic deeds utterly devoid of meaning? Ultimately, the enigma of why anything bears significance within a godless universe remains persistently unanswered.

My goodness this is deep, and yes I go through nihilistic periods. Let's assume the aithiests are correct forca moment. Does it matter if I learn things. Does it matter if we were at the stage when we ķnew absolutely everything Does it matter of I was good or bad. Does it matter what Hitler did. If there is no purpose, and we all die then there will come a time when all life is extinct and so no matter what happened doesn't really matter In reality even though I'm not a nihilist I still lack knowledge of true meaning. The other thing is why does a God who lacks nothing want human worship.

A couple of things need to be mentioned so you can understand the Islamic position. 1. Allah is free from need, so He does not need our worship. Whether we worship him or not, it makes no difference to Him and He is not at a loss. 2. We understand that Allah is worthy of worship. If someone gives you £1,000,000, it's quite likely you would praise them quite quickly and quite extensively. However, if they said that £1,000,000 means you can only live for 1 more day, or that they will take your eyes away from you, you would quickly reject the money and prefer to either live longer, or to keep your eyes. Now if your eyes and your life are more valuable than the £1,000,000, and the person who gave you the money would have been worthy of praise, then by greater reason the one who gives you life, or gave you sight, is more worthy of praise. 3. Worshipping Allah is for our benefit, as if we don't worship Him, we end up worshipping something else. Worship in Islam is more than just the 5 daily prayers. If you give charity, smile at a stranger, uphold someones rights, defend the innocent, etc for the sake of that which you value the most (Allah), then this becomes worship. now if you don't value Allah more than anything else, you don't simply stop valuing things, you just begin to value other things. And which ever takes the place of Allah as the thing you value the most becomes the thing you end up worshipping. Like Allah says in the Quran, "Have you seen the one who has taken their own desires as their god?" (25:42). If you don't give this worship to Allah, you will give it to something or someone else (or even yourself). The difference between worshipping Allah and worshipping things in the world is that Allah is eternal and sovereign, and everything in the world turns to dust and is itself in need. So chasing the world, instead of God, always leaves you with dust in your hands. When you worship Allah, you are fulfilling something that He is due from you, and protecting yourself from giving too much value to things that cannot help you without the permission of the one who made them. Understanding this, and turning to your Lord, and trying to follow His guidance, is a means of success.

@johnbrzykcy3076 interesting that you did psychology. I have a book entitled The Happiness Trap by Dr Russ Harris. It deals with ACT or acceptance therapy for depression etc. The book starts out by describing why the pursuit of happiness always leads to mental illness In one section he mentions that it doesn't matter if your thoughts are positive or negative, or even if your beliefs are true or false, the only thing that matters is do they help you. So I could argue that if you were depressed and decided life had zero meaning and you then came to a belief in God well that helps you regardless of whether said God exists or not. It is often hope that drives us. My brother in law is a full blown pentecostal, he believes he is saved as he has been blesses with tongues, , I think it's all rubbish but he believes it. I see blind faith, or faith in faith as rather silly, on the other hand I can have faith in things I can't see by a form of evidence so to speak. I can't accept the scientific notion that the big bang happened and came from ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, ie no cause or effect.,it's true I can't pro9I ve God did it or even there is a God. I am stuck with my feeble mind, that looks at the stars and am struck my majestic AWE. I also realise I simply can't interstate eternity as I am limited by space and time. An eternal God is beyond human definition and all human understanding. It's all in vein for science to even a temptation to measure it. It takes as much faith to be an athiest as it does a theist.

Islam is indeed solution of nihilism and collapse of Christianity. However, we Muslims need democracy and religious freedom for everyone. There is NO Islamic injunction to impose Islam on non-Muslims.

Yes this is the point I make in the book. But I would say we still need to worry, as there are many muslims getting lost because then don’t engage with the religion and end up experiencing nihilism.

I have to agree with brother Yusuf when he says Nihilism is creeping into Muslim beliefs. It's not always easy to recognise. We need to recognise it and weed it out.

I was nihilistic Muslim being brought up in a Muslim household through osmosis, it does matter, it's only after studying Islam on my own in my teens after going through many trials and tribulations did my heart find peace but now in my 30s many trials still plague my life but alhamdulillah each time I'm able to get out of it because of the solutions Islam provided but you'll relapse time to time because humans are made forgetful. So it's not that we shouldn't worry, watch the presentation, we will have to learn to understand it because we will meet many people, friends, families and our children may experience it despite being in Muslim families but parents, even friends are ill equipped to empathize or talk to them how to deal with it and not actively giving them the solutions in Islam. Islam is community based faith. Most nihilistic people feel alone in their predicament because of this attitude, as Muslims you should not feel this way, case closed. In America many Muslim teens commit suicide. It's a sad situation. Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The believer who mixes with people and is patient with their harm has a greater reward than the believer who does not mix with people, nor is patient with their harm.” Source: Sunan Ibn Mājah 4032 Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Albani

Choosing not to have children isn't about pessimism. To live is to struggle, and that's just our reality. "We have certainly created man into hardship." 90:4 "O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion" 84:6 Now, as a believer, you can say the goal is the afterlife anyways, but even that is really challenging these days. I mean raising children as good Muslims is difficult in our modern society, and even if you do everything right, they might go astray when they get older. This is the reality of our life, so I do believe that bringing children into this life is selfish

The problems you described were present at the time of the companions. I believe it is the other way around. I believe it is selfish not to have children. I think its more about not being willing to make the sacrifices necessary to raise a family, and a preferred inclination to just having to worry about yourself and no one else. But this also puts a strain on other peoples children, who end up having to care for you when you get old.

@@YusufPonders of course, raising children isn't easy and does require sacrifice. I know this, but at the same time, it's a source of happiness for a great deal of people who wish to have children. Also, people choose to have children not only to support them when they grow older, but to give them a new window to life. I mean, when we get old, we start to lose the people around us and feel death looming in the horizon. Having children and grandchildren around gives us new life. You can't say having children is a purely selfless act for the betterment of society. "Wealth and children are the attractions of this worldly life, but lasting good works have a better reward with your Lord and give better grounds for hope." 18:46 You didn't give me an answer to the reality of struggle in life. To bring a child to this life is to know without a doubt they will suffer and struggle, and because of our modern society that's full of temptations, their fate in the afterlife isn't guaranteed. Why should they, without a choice, carry the burden of life forward?
