Ya that's the difference with Asian martial arts, they take respect very seriously. I did mma before and everyone in the gym has this ego tried to out beat each other, is like a dog pit, everyone wants to prove they are the big dog

Guys Islam is one of the best guys to rappresent judo in mma. His throws against people like Oliveira, tsarukyan and on are just magnificent

Islam is my favorite Champion. Elite in his MMA skills in the cage and a humble, kind and funny guy outside. His Judo throws in MMA are truly beautiful to watch.

In my opinion Islam has the most beautiful and diverse takedowns in the entire history of mma. No one has his diverse skillset and multiple different takedowns. His judo is simply beautiful to watch. If you haven't seen his takedowns compilation, if you love Judo you will enjoy it for sure

@@kevh3433not true, judo does have ground game , we learn how to scramble, do submissions, and get dominant positioning. I agree there is a big focus on standup in judo , but to say there isn’t also a comprehensive ground aspect of it is insane. Just yesterday at my judo place we were literally practicing ground fighting.

He speaks well and calmly, smiles a lot, and knows what he is saying. I like this man so much. I wish him more success

Khabib was on a nother Level tho, no one came close to his mindset inside the Octagon not even Islam. When Khabib was in the cage I always felt like watching an Older Brother beat a younger one but with Islam its a bit more even and more risky

​@@Aluja77 I agree with you though. Islam is a better striker than Khabib and could be a little stronger. But Khabib was the best grappler with the highest Fight IQ I had ever seen. His situational awareness inside the cage was such that it felt like he always knew what the next move of his opponent would be and thus sort of played with him as an Older brother. I agree with you that Khabib brought some supreme level of confidence inside the cage but with Islam, I don't feel that safe yet. There's always a risk that Islam can get caught with a nasty shot that gave him that one loss early in his career. Islam still needs to grow in his confidence, anticipate his opponent's moves much better, improve his grappling a little more, and increase his already high Fight IQ a little more. There's still room for improvement as we saw in the first Volkanovsky fight. Having said that, I don't see anyone beating Makhachev in the Lightweight division at the moment. He is the best in the world right now despite his few weaknesses.

Islam currently is the only elite MMA fighter with judo in his arsenal.

I think the best way to increase judo’s popularity is to do what Netflix has done with F1 and tennis make a docuseries following various competitors on the IJF circuit, so many have amazing stories about there past and the sacrifices they have made
