Showtime Pettis is the weakest modern LW champion and he still had that awesome first time KO of Wonderboy years out of his prime. Alvarez got stung horribly at the beginning of the fight and just wanted to get into a boxing fight after that for some reason instead of implementing his game. Conor was lucky things went as well as they did in the Nate rematch and that fight in 2016

Dana probably wants Conor to fight the winner of Olivera-Justin. Hence taking away the title opportunity of Islam. If Conor wins, then Dana would want Conor vs Islam. That would be a huge money fight. That would be something Dana would love. 😂

It's clear that he asked for more money than what UFC wanted to give. I genuinely think that all fighters have to be selfish (no matter what). UFC is just like any other company and they want to maximize their revenue and these fighters literally put their physical and mental health on the line. Look at what happened to moicano this past week, he definitely lost a few years from his fighting life (if not more). All fighters need to make smart decisions and really don't need to care about UFC or for that matter even fans like me (a casual fan)

man, let this guy fight for the title, he deserved it, he's great fighter, dominant wrestler, finish his last 4 opponents, 10 win streak, what do you want more...to be honest in the beginning I didn't like him or Khabib and always want them to lose...but they put the work and training very hard every day for their dreams, they smesh everybody and they are humble every time, I have so much respect for Islam now. And you know , in UFC you don't have easy fights , every fight is dangerous , and this guy has 10 win streak, he will be champion one day, this is sure....all the best Islam, true fans are with you !!!

Honestly the lightweight division is done now. Its just full of old has-beens slowing ppl down. Yes ofc Olivera is great and Justin has a great chin but his wrestling isnt on Islam's. Dana is slowing Islam's run down, so he can make as much as possible for the old men whilst also keeping the division interesting.

2:00 yeah I agree even if he beats RDA they would still not give him his due. I guess he waits and fights Dariush.

Also to add to another statement I made, I wish we had fighters lined up for guaranteed title shots instead of top contenders having to fight all the time when something gets delayed or happens. Everything gets too vague in terms of title contentions and not only would having guaranteed title shots help out situations like this, but it also gives the contenders below a proper opportunity to catch up. This was a problem that the HW division and BW division had for the longest where no new contenders were able to go up properly or they were just immediately fed to the top guys with barely any experience.

Nope. Much better for no one to ever be guaranteed a shot because the division becomes stale. The best thing about the sport is the active guys get rewarded the most. It’s great for the fans and the storylines.

@Renaldo Matadeen Jiri had knocked out the current Bellator Champion prior to signing with the UFC, then he knocked out a top 10 guy in his debut, then knocked out the rank 3. Jiri Earned his title fight. Beating tomato cans does nothing for your resume, nor does it make you deserving of a title fight. Beating top opponents does.

This is so the UFC can maximize their net profits. The UFC signs and pushes characters for entertainment. Most of the best MMA fighters in the world are not in the UFC. The UFC is a farce and always has been.

Islam my man, Oliveira Vs Gaethje will fight in May and typically whoever win that fight will have a break and defend it probably on September or October, you have time to fight Dariush in June and fight for the title in September or October.

I feel like Makhachev's small ask had to do with bringing another fighter into the UFC. Someone from Dagestan. He probably asked as a favor and was rejected. I don't see it being the title request since Dana already said he would be in title contention. I also don't think it is about money because Ali is very good at negotiating, Khabib was paid highly because of his fans and attention around the world, so Makhachev has that leverage of fan base and knowledge plus the right negotiators in his corner. I really think it has to do with getting a fellow fighter or two into the UFC.

This is actually a really good take. I think the reason why he is so secretive about his demand is because it's about their family/friendship matters. It can also be about rescheduling either tagir or umar fight because if Islam fight RDA that night. Khabib needs to corner 3 of his close friends fight back to back to back. And you know how extremely nervous Khabib is with his fellow friend's fight.

@@Respect-sf4tm Good point about the request to reschedule the fights or shuffle them around. I think Trevor Whitman did something similar when Usman, Gaethje and Rose were on the same card recently. They put the Chandler Gaethje fight earlier to give Trevor enough time, but they all did fight that night. I could see the UFC rejecting it if they asked to move to a separate card. Also agreed that the secretiveness around it does seem to fit with family/friendship matters. A request like that could make a teammate look bad (nepotism, or blacklisted if Dana gets upset, etc.)

Seeing the IG comments grilling Islam unfairly about this situation, when I KNEW THERE WAS MORE BEHIND THE SCENES. How fickle some MMA fans are is disgusting. Im with Islam, through the wins and losses.

Why is it that big of a deal to pay him 1 mil anw? This interview got 100k in 10 hours, it’s clear that he is one of the biggest rising prospects.

RDA also didn't just straight accept the fight proposal at 170 after being offered the 1st time.

I'm glad Islam did this interview to address things. Also he 'seemed' more relaxed in this interview for whatever reason, a better interview/conversation flow from him all around. Excited to see his next fight.

Im sure that condition was a guaranteed title shot. He said people will make excuse even if he smashed RDA as being old etc. He wants to have assurance, but looks like Dana is going to do what he did to Khabib by delaying Islam's title fight

Whatever happened in this RDA situation shouldn't change the fact that this dude should fight for the title, it's clear as day that he's the #1 contender.

If you don't agree to fight on Danas terms, in his eyes, it means you don't want the fight. He probably asked for some more money or new contract, or to pay for something and the UFC said f that, we got someone whose willing to do it for less.

The Mma Hour would had been better but Ali says no.

He for sure asked for a title shot next and Dana said no. No one that watches MMA doesn’t believe this dude isn’t ready for a belt other than Dana I guess.

His English is great now, he is much more confident it's such a great improvement.

So he did want to fight RDA, for a price, Dana didn't want to meet that price, and that's why their fight didn't happen.

No. The UFC pays very well for short notice fights, more than champ pay for high profile fights. Saying you will fight and then when the opponent accepts you change and demand an unreasonable sum is just backing out and running away but not having the stones to even say it.

From what I gathered from this interview is that Islam said he wanted the fight and called Ali, he asked for 1 "small" condition to be met. Ali then proceeded to do all the negotiations and didn't report back to Islam. The UFC & Ali couldn't reach a deal and Dana says Islam turned down the fight even though Islam is completely out the loop and the blame is being put on him instead of Ali's negotiations fell through and they didn't have enough time to continue negotiating so they gave it to Moicano instead

Brett is my favourite interviewer. And I have so much respect for Islam now.
