Isla de la Plata is approximately an hour and a half boat ride from Puerto Lopez, Ecuador. This island offers the opportunity to experience many of the land and sea creatures found in the Galapagos for a much cheaper price. When I went I got a 3rd reason for the island name. What they told me was that most sailors of that date, didn’t know the location of that island, and pirates 🏴☠️ would use the island to keep their treasures, until on day when they spotted boats coming for their bounties, the pirates 🏴☠️ left in a hurry, and in order to obtain more speed from their boats, they keep the gold and jewels 💎 but dumped all their silver over board. (No one has found all that silver.)
