    Isaro ties with Schmincke as my #1. The way they rewet is gorg, the price is better than some US brands for quality and the colors on the website are laid out great. I mean the sorting capabilities there make it easy to navigate. Granulating+transparent? Check, check, there! Opaque+staining? Same! Half of the paint in my studio palette is Isaro. AND the owner replies to questions!

    I live in Netherlands, so when I wanted to get a big palette with all of the common colors - Isaro was an easy choice: solid quality, big tubes, many colors are single pigment and most of them are easy to rewet. I added several DS, Holbein and Schminke and made my big studio palette. And I’m really happy with it for more than a year now

    I don't think I'll seek out this brand right now. Sounds like they're at that awkward phase inbetween reliability and economy of price offered by larger brands and the attention to detail and fun niche colours that small-scale paint makers can provide. However, in this video the quality of the paints looks solid, and the mixes are very interesting. So I'll keep an eye out for the direction they'll be developing. Growing companies go through growing pains, and I'm always rooting for the new kids on any block.

    It's nice to see again a nice recorded swatches video 😊 It's funny to see how paint producers omit the label cobalt sometimes and sometimes they add it. Here the cerulean blue pb35 is a cobalt, and sometimes py53 is labeled as cobalt yellow when there is no cobalt inside

For now, they will stay on my wish list, but maybe move them up a bit! 😉 They are really pretty and I like the softness. I also like the granulation in the blends, though little I paint (mostly florals) would really accommodate those granulating pigments well. However, there are lovely choices in the line! Oooh I love isaro. I have a few of their colours and ordered them direct. The customer service emailing was superb when I had questions about their pigments. I bought indigo, Nordman green, steel blue and Payne’s grey as the pigments used are supposed to be more lightfast than other mixes for those colours. What I will say is their indigo is more like Payne’s grey and vice Versa.

    The chickens are so charming! I need to figure out how to do looser watercolor sketching. I have a tendency to get caught up in the details and even in my sketchbook try and put each individual fur direction and way too fussy of details and I lose that spontaneous watercolory feel.

  • @eirenmist2301

    I remember another couple of artists, although I cannot remember who just now, explaining that in their slanted palette wells, they put the pigment at the top of the slant so that when the water runs down in the deep end of the well, the pigment is diluted and it's easier to pull diluted pigment from there and keep the undiluted pigment at the top for when they need stronger pigment. If I have explained the situation clearly enough, any thoughts on that? Why or why not would that be a good idea? I'm getting ready to fill a new palette like the one you demonstrate with, and I would love to know the best practice for filling those slanted wells.

  • @OhJodi69

    @OhJodi69

    2 жыл бұрын

    I do this. It helps keep the pigment cleaner, and it's just easier to control the dilution of the paint, especially if I just need a small amount. I also can just paint right from the well without using the mixing area, unless I need a larger amount of paint. And with flat wells I just put my paint to one side of the well, I do not fill the entire well.

  • @awatercolourist

  • @InLiquidColor

    @InLiquidColor

    It just comes down to preference. I don't like reaching over the paint to get to the diluted mixture. I paint relatively small, so I can still dilute in the top of the well without issue.
