I was born Jewish. The very first time I read Issiah 52 and 53, I was stunned - I knew in my heart the truth. This confused me as it's not what my Rabbi said to me later. So I took what the Rabbi said and went back to read those passages again. I tried as hard as I could to believe what I was told by the Rabbi while reading the passage - it was impossible to do. I tried over and over to read that passage and only think about the Rabbi's explanation of the verse - every time, this was impossible for me to do. My mind would be grabbed by a force too strong for me to control and my mind would remove the false explanation from the Rabbi and insert The Messiah into each line of words which I read. I figured I better drop all religions, stop listening to others, and start getting my information only from GOD - Thank GOD, that worked.

Wow - what a profound story. The way you read it is the way God intended for us to read it. The Holy Spirit of God is leading us toward recognition of the true Messiah He sent for us, and Isaiah 53 is a powerful message God wants us to understand. Thanks for sharing your story!

Now, I'm a believer but only recently did I come across Matthew 1:21 and realize that, it's right there in our face. The name Jesus doesn't make the connection, but the name Yeshua does. He came to ( save ) His people. Us Gentiles needed the light just as much as the Jews. 🙏👑🙏 God bless the 👑

Did you read the rest of the book of Isaiah? Never mind what a rabbi told you. Just read Isaiah. Isaiah himself says in many of the chapters prior to 52 and 53, whom he's talking about, and according to him it's not Jesus! You better check it out, because your soul is at stake. Jesus can't save you. He couldn't even save himself! The only thing that will save you is the Torah. Study it every day, and that's where your salvation will come from, as it is the revealed word of G-d. The more you study Torah, the greater your connection to the Creator of the Universe.

@@LifeinMessiah For Jews, Muslims, Jehovah's witnesses, and all those who believe Jesus wasn't God and profess that God couldn't be a man, I find Isaiah 9:6 (KJV) to be the most powerful passage: "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, THE MIGHTY GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

Also please say to people that they can see the Great Isaiah scroll which is in the museum in Israel and dates or carbon dates to 100-200 years before Jesus was born. I know the original was written 700 years before He was born

Yes - the Isaiah 53 prophecy (and ALL the prophecies of Isaiah) were given to Israel long before Messiah Jesus was born. It's an incredible testimony to the trustworthiness of God and His great plan of salvation.

Interesting that Moses and Yeshua were both mentioned. Indeed Moses was a type of messiah, imperfect as he was, pointing to the true and perfect messiah Jeshua. In my opinion the Jewish fesitivals/feast are simply a road map to the character of Jeshua/God and the events of his comings past and future.

The word Messiah comes from the Hebrew word mashiach, which means ‘anointed one’ or someone who is chosen to rule. Jews believe that the Messiah will come to bring a time of perfect peace and prosperity. 1. a male descendant of the Jewish King David and sit on the throne as King of Israel. 2. human - he will have a human birth and human parents. 3. a perfect teacher of Torah law. 4. a great political leader - inspirational and a good judge. 5. able to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem ruler over humanity - but he will rule with kindness. 6. the bringer of peace to the world. 7. able to unite humanity. 8. @Rajul_Jamil Your list has some very good points. A couple of thoughts. First, you said: "human - he will have a human birth and human parents." It is good to put Bible references along with assertions so that others can see where the points were derived from. Micah 5 is where Messiah's birth is discussed with specificity, and it says: “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.” This tells us that Messiah absolutely must be born in Bethlehem. Jesus was, in fact, born in Bethlehem. Yet messianic prophecy in the TaNaKh has more to say about Messiah's origins. Daniel 7:13-14 says: 13 “I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him. 14 Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, Which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the one Which shall not be destroyed. Messiah is both from Heaven and from earth. Admittedly, this seems to be a contradiction. How can someone be from both Heaven and from earth? Furthermore, Daniel 7:14 says Messiah will reign forever, but Isaiah 53:10 says Messiah will die as an awsham (אָשָׁם) - as an offering for sin. See Leviticus for the meaning of awsham as it is used many times there in the context of sacrifice. How can Messiah be from both Heaven and earth, and how can Messiah die as an offering for sin yet reign forever? These apparent messianic contradictions are all resolved in Jesus. As difficult as it is for a Jewish person to accept - especially considering the misguided Christian antisemitism throughout history - Jesus is the Jewish Messiah who loves His people more than anyone else does.

I heard a Rabbi explain this as because the father of Jesus was not of the house of Judah, he can't be messiah! Sounded to me like he's still waiting for a King as his messiah???

You sed the text is dated 2700 years old. And the Death of Jesus by Scholars have provided estimates in the range 30-33 AD, with Rainer Riesner stating that "the fourteenth of Nisan (7 April) of the year 30 AD is, apparently in the opinion of the majority of contemporary scholars as well, far and away the most likely date of the crucifixion. And we are in 2023 so how the the biblical quote you just saying be 2700 yers old dates don’t adding up here..

Jesus & authors of the Bible didn't know slavery is immoral & suggested how to buy, sell & beat the slaves. No Bible verse explicitly says slavery is immoral & call for its abolishment. Modern Western laws are NOT based on Biblical values, otherwise slavery would still be a moral practice. Secular thinking ended slavery after about 1800 years of Biblical values failure to do so.

Because we jews respect Islam a lot more than we do Christianity. Of the two religions that cribbed off of us, at least Islam is monotheistic. That's why we prefer it. Christianity cribbed off Judaism, but it's always been more of a Greco-Roman themed religion. It just borrowed a lot from pagan Greco-Roman culture. Virgin birth, half-man half-gods, celebration of the winter solstice. All of that is Greco-Roman. None of it is remotely Levantine.

Jesus was quoting the first verse of Psalm 22 here, and He wanted us to "hyperlink" to that passage and read it. Psalm 22 is a messianic prophecy. This prophetic chapter says: 1 My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Jews have never believed Christianity. Christianity is a Greco-Roman religion that some Hellenistic jews started. Christianity is largely racist towards Jews as a race of people. Christianity has led to centuries of persecution. Of course jews do not believe in the legitimacy of the New Testament. It's riddled with errors, and it even contains blatant antisemitism. Christian antisemitism so far has culminated with the holocaust and the murder of six million jews. All jews respect Islam more so than Christianity or paganism, and that's pretty much across the board.

Jews have always believed in Judaism. Our religion is over 3000 years old. We invented the concept of a personal monotheistic God. We've continued to practice monotheism for thousands of years. Muslims likewise practice monotheism. Christianity isn't monotheism. They have at least three separate Gods. They worship at least two separate gods. That means they aren't monotheistic. They are polytheist, close to ancient Greco-Roman pagan beliefs. Christianity taught that mythological unicorn creatures were real for thousands of years. Once they realized it wasn't true and that they got a bad translation of the wild ox, they still believed in a lot of Greco-Roman pagan concepts like half man-half God deities, virgin births, etc. None of that came from any Levantine culture. It came from Greco-Roman pagan culture, and Hellenistic jews adopted it in their 1st century AD religion. The original Christian jews were a sect within Judaism. They got kicked out of the temples for practicing esoteric witchcraft, and then they started a new religion as revenge against the jews who kicked them to the curb.

@@ifoundelijah Why did some jews initially follow a charismatic rabbi? That's how this all started. Then you have to understand that the earliest jews were Hellenistic and more influenced by Greek and Roman culture at that time than they were influenced by ancient Hebrew text. They couldn't even read Hebrew. They could only read poorly translated copies of the Septuagint at that time, so what would they honestly know? At that time, it was common for there to be charismatic miracle workers. It was an essential career back then, and Yeshua was far from the only miracle working rabbi. What is unique about Christianity and early Christians who were jews is the mixing of Greco-Roman pagan influence with Abrahamic culture, this mesh created Christianity. Similarly, Christianity, Judaism, and Arab pagan traditions, along with folklore that was around in the region at the time, and pre-islamic Arab poetry was the influence on the Quran and the reason for the existence of Islam. Whatever pagan influence Christianity has in it, typically, the Muslims borrowed it from Christianity. Therefore, the Greco-Roman pagan influence is part of Islam as well, just to a lesser extent. Early Christians, who were jews completely expected the world to end around 1950 years ago. They were really wrong about the timeline. The earth currently has approximately 500 million years left until it becomes unsustainable for mammal life. Why would any God come down and disrupt his own creation through the process of evolution when there are hundreds of millions of good years left. I'm Jewish, but probably with a lot of modern scientific information factored into my ideology. If you can't factor the currently established scientific evidence into your ideology, it's probably backward thinking. It's never logical to believe one person was born of a virgin 2000 years ago. So far, around 117 billion sapiens have come and gone or are still here. None of them were born of a virgin in 300,000 years of Sapien life. However, at the time of Yeshua, many notable men were said to be born of a virgin and a God. Half God, half a virgin, was a popular motif at the time. Alexander the Great was said to have been half God, half virgin woman birth. Just like it wasn't true about him, it also wasn't true about some 1st century Jewish rabbi. Yeshua lived and died a rabbi who practiced his own influential style of Judaism until the Roman crucifixion around 33AD. He never condoned starting a new religion in his honor, nor did he agree to any of the things involved with the ideology of the religion. He certainly never had gentile followers in his lifetime. Even the guy who they used to claim was gentile. It turns out he was likely a Hellenistic jew. Christianity began as a sect of Judaism or an identity within Judaism until the other sect of Judaism eventually had to reject the Christian jews out of the synagogues, for straying to far away from Judaism, with their heavy Greco-Roman influence, so at that point, they branched off into another religion and eventually, decades after that, they started recruiting gentiles in order to help consolidate their power. It's a tale almost as old as time.

In context, from Yeshayahu 52.10. GOD will bare a holy arm [The phrase is mostly used while there is war.] In the sight of all the nations, And the very ends of earth shall see The victory [deliverance / salvation] of our God. [GOD will do historical miracles for all the nations of the world to witness so they will have no other choice than to know that the G'd of Israel is indeed doing all this.] Turn, turn away, touch naught impure [Nations who live without God.] As you [Israel] depart from there; [From exile.] Keep pure, as you go forth from there, You who bear the vessels [The tools of serving God.] of GOD ! For you will not depart in haste, Nor will you leave in flight; For GOD is marching before you, The God of Israel is your rear guard. Indeed, My servant [Israel] shall prosper, Be exalted and raised to great heights. Just as the many were appalled at him [Throughout history, Jews were despised.] So marred was his appearance, unlike that of a person, His form, beyond human semblance. [..and why were Jews despised, even because of their looks? Just so...:] Just so he [Israel and eventually the Moshi'ach] shall startle many nations. Kings shall be silenced because of him, [The torah wisdom of the moshi'ach cannot be contradicted] For they shall see what has not been told them, Shall behold what they never have heard. [The nations all think that Jesus was supposed to be the messiah but now they will see and hear that it is actually the Jews who were always right.]

One might say that Isaiah 49:5-6 clarifies the context: 5 “And now the Lord says, Who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant, To bring Jacob back to Him, So that Israel is gathered to Him (For I shall be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, And My God shall be My strength), 6 Indeed He says, ‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’ ” Do you have any thoughts on the identity of the Servant in Isaiah 49:5-6? Is this an individual or is it the nation of Israel? It sounds like the Servant of Isaiah 49 has a mission to "bring Jacob back to Him," to be "glorious in the eyes of the Lord," and "to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved ones of Israel." Also, interestingly, the Servant of Isaiah 49:6 will also be given by God as "a light to the Gentiles." This light to the Gentiles was spoken about in Isaiah 11:10, which says: "And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the people; for the Gentiles shall seek Him, and His resting place shall be glorious.” Isaiah 11 is, without a doubt in anyone's mind, speaking of Messiah, the Son of David. Isaiah 49:6 uses similar terminology of being a glorious light to the Gentiles. As you said, we must take context into consideration. But one other thing we must do: We must follow the evidence where it leads.

Always ask yourself: "Who is speaking?"@@LifeinMessiah . In context, in Is. 49.1 it is clear that the prophet Isaiah (Yeshayahu) is speaking about himself. "G'd appointed me before I was born, naming me while I was in my mother's womb." In Rashi's words: "When I (Isaiah) was still in the womb, the thought came before Him (God) that my name should be Isaiah (יְשַׁעְיָה) to prophesy salvations (יְשׁוּעוֹת) and consolations." In this light Is. 49.5 should be read. It's literally: "And now GOD has resolved - The One who formed me (Yeshayahu) in the womb to be of service - to bring back (through his prophesies) Jacob and restore Israel. And I have been honoured in the sight of GOD, my God has been my strength." And who's the 'light of the nations' (la'or goyim) in verse 6? Just look op the (Hebrew) phrase for yourself and you will find Yeshayahu 42 (verse 6) talking about Israel and eventually the messiah, the anointed one coming out of Israel: 1: "This is My servant, (Israel) whom I uphold. My chosen one, in whom I delight. I have put My spirit (read: inspiration) upon him, he shall teach the true way to the nations." 2: "He shall not cry out or shout aloud, or make his voice heard in the streets." 3: "He shall not break even a bruised reed, or snuff out even a dim wick. He shall bring forth the true way." 4: "He shall not grow dim or be bruised until he has established the true way on earth; and the coastlands shall await his teaching." 5: "Thus said the ETERNAL God, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread out the earth and what it brings forth, Who gave breath to the people upon it and life to those who walk thereon:" 6: "I GOD, in My grace, have summoned you, (Israel) and I have grasped you by the hand. I created you, and appointed you a covenant people, [to be] a light of (to the) nations ..."

You are right that there are some difficult things in the Talmud. But what does the Bible say about the Jewish people in His own book? They are a blessed people and they have a prophetic calling upon their family, and God has promised never to change this. So, while one might disagree with some of the things some have said, we are still obligated to recognize the blessing and calling and love of God upon the Jewish people. We do not throw the beloved baby out if the bathwater gets dirty.

I pray for the Jewish people who endured through out history to bring about Jesus Christ. That they would come to accept their Messiah who made a way for ALL to be saved.

Good question. The context of John 17 is less than 24 hours before Jesus' crucifixion. He had already offered Himself to die, knowing full well that His disciple Judas was betraying Him. Jesus knew what would happen, so He essentially spoke as though His work - His sin-atoning death on the cross - was finished.

Isaiah 53 is not the only place in the Bible that prophecies Jesus! And watch out for any doctrine that says “you are saved just because” there are Christian doctrines that do it. Remember Jesus said “man cannot live on bread alone but the ENTIRE! Word of God! So the suffering servant is a good idea to have since no one is pre or mid tribulation rapturing out. In fact Gods kingdom is coming here so no need to be plucked out at all.

Rabbi Akiva was a Gentile, but the Messiah of Isaiah 11 is "a Rod from the stem of Jesse [David's father]." We know that the Messiah will come from David's line, according to messianic prophecy. Rabbi Akiva did not come from David's line. Isaiah 53 is just another description of another aspect of the Messiah, building on Isaiah 9:6-7, Isaiah 11, Isaiah 49:5-6, and Isaiah 52:13-53:12. Isaiah 53 wrote in the past tense, he wrote about what was, and not about what will happen in 700 years. Chapter 53 is about the Jewish people.

You are on purpose skipping rest of verse where it is stated that he will have offsprings - as we know, something Jesus never had.

You make a very legitimate point. It is important not to leave out anything when studying the Bible. Either it needs to be addressed or it needs to be admitted we don't know how to deal with it. As you mentioned, regarding Isaiah 53:10, the Hebrew says He shall see "seed." This idea is rooted in the concept of spiritual rebirth through what Messiah's accomplished "when You make His soul an offering for sin." (Isaiah 53:10) The following is seen in John 3:5-7: "Jesus answered, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, "You must be born again."'" Through many Scriptures in the Old Testament and New Testament, it speaks of spiritual rebirth that the Holy Spirit accomplishes within an individual. Of this spiritual rebirth the prophet Ezekiel says: "26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them." (Ezekiel 36:26-27) This spiritual rebirth is accomplished through faith in Messiah Jesus.

Not to mention even if they were martyred how do you know they had a chance to avoid that by denying Christ. They may have simply been executed for inciting crowds against their authority or established religion. Just as they did to others later in time.

This verse was designed by God to be understood only after the event it prophesied occurred. Not even Jesus' closest disciples thought He was going to die because they expected Him to reign as a king immediately. But after Jesus' death and resurrection, then the disciples finally understood Isaiah 53 for the very first time. They read and connected the dots: "He WAS wounded on account of our sins."

Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “He is Allah-One ˹and Indivisible˺; Allah-the Sustainer ˹needed by all˺. He has never had offspring, nor was He born. And there is none comparable to Him.

Isaiah talks about coming Messiah. Just because according to the new testament Jesus was mistreated, does not mean he was the Messiah. Plenty of people were (and are) mistreated in all sorts of horrible ways. There is absolutely no proof the verse predicted Jesus specifically.

You are absolutely right in saying that just because someone was mistreated it doesn't mean they are the suffering servant of Isaiah 53. But a study of every single messianic prophecy in the TaNaKh creates a thorough profile of God's Messiah. This is a critical study for truth seekers. We should study every single messianic prophecy, maybe even typing them into a Word document, and then looking at them all together, taking notes as needed. This is how God wants us to study His words. When we give our heart, mind, and energy to studying the words He gave us, He'll help us to see some amazing things. Pat, Isaiah speaks of the Messiah a handful of times, and the messianic prophecy closest in proximity before Isaiah 53 is Isaiah 49:5-6, which says: 5 “And now the Lord says, Who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant, To bring Jacob back to Him, So that Israel is gathered to Him (For I shall be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, And My God shall be My strength), 6 Indeed He says, ‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’ ” Notice the strong distinction between "My Servant" and "Jacob"/"Israel." Isaiah 11 - an ultra-clear messianic chapter - gives so many linguistic links to Isaiah 49:5-6 that one can safely say that Isaiah 49:5-6 is, in fact, speaking of Messiah. And if Isaiah 49:5-6 is about the Messiah, so is Isaiah 53 and these two chapters also have very clear linguistic linkages. What are your thoughts?

Amazingly, it says the same in Hebrew. In fact, the Hebrew even augments the meaning. Isaiah 53:10 calls Messiah an "offering for sin" in English. In Hebrew, the word is אָשָׁם (awsham), which is a well-known term found in the Torah over and over when referring to the sacrifices. God would make Messiah a sacrifice for sin. We should not overlook this revelation from God lest we overlook the Messiah He sent.

What a horrible translation. Changing Gods word with reckless translation.

Here is Isaiah 49, and you will see there are TWO servants mentioned. One is Israel, and the other is One who will bring Jacob (Israel) back to God. Two servants in one chapter. Isaiah 49:3-5 reads: 3 “And He said to me, ‘You are My servant, O Israel, In whom I will be glorified.’ 4 Then I said, ‘I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and in vain; Yet surely my just reward is with the Lord, And my work with my God.’ ” 5 “And now the Lord says, Who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant, To bring Jacob back to Him, So that Israel is gathered to Him (For I shall be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, And My God shall be My strength)... Again, you see two servants in this passage. When you read the context of Isaiah 53, you see that it is referring to the latter servant - that One who will bring Jacob (Israel) back to God. Isaiah 53 speaks of the Messiah, the Suffering Servant of God, who makes atonement for Israel.

Problem is, the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53 is never described as the Messiah. His suffering is portrayed as past, not future. The servant was explicitly identified in prior chapters as “Israel". A reasonable reading: Israel has suffered in Babylonian captivity, but will be vindicated soon and brought back to their land, with a new relationship with God. It's certainly true that Christians early on ran with the interpretation of the "suffering servant" as Jesus. Bart Ehrman thinks the crucifixion stories of the gospels may have been influenced by the passage, "written up by Christians to make Jesus appear to have fulfilled prophecy." Personally I don't think the writers were intending to deceive; rather they were reporting stories that were in circulation decades later when they were writing.

Nobody in the world understood Isaiah 53 until Jesus' death and resurrection; only then did they grasp the concepts of Isaiah 53. God knew there would be this delay, and by the time the first Jewish person read Isaiah 53 and understood it it was an event in the past. Amazing! As for the Suffering Servant of Isaiah 53 being the Messiah, Isaiah 49:5-6 describes the "Servant" and His assignment. It says: 5 “And now the Lord says, Who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant, To bring Jacob back to Him, So that Israel is gathered to Him (For I shall be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, And My God shall be My strength), 6 Indeed He says, ‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’ ” That the Gentiles will gravitate to Messiah, Isaiah 11:10 says: “And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse [David's Father], Who shall stand as a banner to the people; For the Gentiles shall seek Him, And His resting place shall be glorious.” Moving on and speaking from experience, Bart Ehrman speaks a lot but there are legitimate flaws in his argumentation. Unfortunately, we can't address all of this in this forum.

The fact that it’s written in the past tense shows it’s not a prophecy of the future.

Isiah 53 was written in past tense plural… impossible to be talking about Jesus. The suffering servant is Israel/Jacob…. TaNaKh says this many times.

So if you were correct that Isiah is about Jesus, then pagans predicted Jesus… oooft. Isiah 53 is written in past tense plural… it’s about the past (c. 740 CE) and the plural proves it’s the nation/people of Israel. Learn Hebrew, your Bible agrees with me.

Isaiah the servant (Isaiah 20:3) Eliakim the servant (Isaiah 22:20) David the servant (Isaiah 37:35) Israel the servant (Isaiah 41:8) Messiah the servant (Isaiah 53) God rejects the Levitical Priesthood (Hosea 4:6) and no longer welcomes their sacrifices. We agree that it is very good to read Isaiah 53 in Hebrew. In doing so, it becomes clear that the "Servant" of Isaiah 52:13-53:12 is a person who is suffering as an atoning-sacrifice for the sins of others. Of the Messiah, Isaiah 52:15 uses the term יַזֶּה (He shall sprinkle), which is a sacrificial term used many times in the Torah in the sprinkling of sacrificial blood. Of the Messiah, Isaiah 53:10 says that God will make the Messiah an אָשָׁם, which is another sacrificial term used in the Torah to represent the animal sin sacrifices. This indicates that the Messiah would be an offering for sin, and it is the Lord's doing (according to the text of Scripture in this passage). As it turns out, as surprising as this may be, the identification clues of the messianic prophecies in the TaNaKh all point to Jesus-but a Jewish Jesus-not a gentilified Jesus. We celebrate what Messiah has done.

It's not true. Isaia didn't mean yeshu. He would have been killed because any prophet who says anything that's close to another power other then HaShem is a false prophet and gets killed. Isaia is taking about the righteous people through the generations that take the pain of the people on themselves. Stop this ridiculous mistake and misleading people.
