Isabel Oakeshott savages Liz Truss and government after House of Commons chaos

"I've been a political journalist for over 15 years, I have never ever seen this level of dysfunction, hatred, chaos!"
The government was thrown into chaos earlier today as Suella Braverman resigned from Liz Truss's cabinet as Home Secretary.
At Prime Minister's Questions, Liz Truss claimed she was "a fighter, not a quitter" but the length of her tenure was thrown into question when the party fell out after a parliament vote on fracking.
The Chief Whip for the Tory party is alleged to have quit, with tensions running high in the House of Commons.
Isabel Oakeshott slams the government for treating their job "like a game".

As a conservative voter at the last election I cannot vote for them again. That an 80 seat majority, a Prime minister who was popular with the voters forced to resign by conservative MPs. They then install a replacement who was nobody’s first choice and then immediately start to undermine and sabotage anything she and the new government tried to do. Why would a government with a majority like that need to go to the country? The parliamentary Conservative party exists for itself and is entirely disinterested in doing what the electorate wants. There used to be an acceptance that different people had different outlooks, and that not everyone saw things the same way. We'd have a debate and a vote and democracy won the day. Now it seems to be the case that "If you disagree with me that means you must hate me, and therefore I will hate you in return". There seems to be an increasing number of factions who accuse others of hating them simply because they don't collude or go along with a particular ideology or fantasy. This in turn breeds resentment in return. I have friends of different views to mine on stuff like the EU. But we don't hate each other. We just have a different take on some stuff. There's bigger fish to fry. Friendship is formed and lost on more important criteria. But unfortunately, some folks DO hate each other for holding different views. You're right, it's ridiculous and toxic

They should have stuck with the initial tax cut plans. The conservatives make the mistake the last couple of years to listen too much to all noise in the media. You know you will have it far more difficult in your job as Prime minister if you are a Tory or rightwing. You just need to get on with your policies and stick with them, while ignoring the created noise.
